I slowly turned the knob on my scope, focusing the red crosshair into the middle of my sight. I slowly rotated my sniper rifle, scanning the five-star restaurant fifteen hundred meters away. My breathing steadied as I laid my eyes upon my target. Francesco De Luca, and he was aligned perfectly within my sight. He was an unpleasant-looking man, to say the least. Overweight, silver hair, the kind of smile that makes your skin crawl. No surprise he was surrounded by escorts half his age. But what else can you expect from a De Luca?
Now the question of the day: Headshot? Or heart shot?
That was always my biggest dilemma during my missions. I contemplated my options as I tapped my finger against the trigger lightly while pursing my lips. I waited for a few moments before I sighed and settled for the head. I held my breath to focus the shot, and quickly pulled the trigger.
His head practically exploded, sending blood flying all over the women he was with as his lifeless body plopped to the floor. His security detail rushed over to him, frantically trying to grasp what just happened as a chorus of screams filled the air.
“Gotcha.” I chuckled as my lips curved into a grin.
I grabbed my sniper rifle, my trusty McMillan Tac-50, and quickly began to pack it up. I dismantled my weapon in record time and dusted myself off before reaching into my pants pocket, pulling out a pack of cigarettes. I hit the bottom of the box three times, before opening it and sliding one out. I lifted it to my mouth as I hummed Fly Me to The Moon by Frank Sinatra . A fucking classic. I slid the box back into my pocket, grabbed my rifle, and made my way downstairs.
The vantage point I picked was an abandoned warehouse about a mile away from the restaurant. Still humming, I quickly descended 5 flights of stairs while I puffed on my cigarette. Sirens screamed in the distance, and I smiled knowing that they were cleaning up the mess I made.
The vibrations of my phone snapped me back to reality. Biting my cigarette, I dug through my bag trying to find that annoying device.
“What?” I mumbled, still holding the cigarette between my teeth.
“Is he taken care of?” The cold voice asked.
“Yup.” I stated, popping the p obnoxiously. I knew how much he hated that.
“Good job. We’ll see you at the safehouse.” My father spoke out quickly.
“Alright, see you soon.” I stated before I hung up.
I took a step forward only to see a quick glimmer of an object flying towards me. Reacting quickly, I ducked as something pierced the wall behind me. I stood up before examining the wall behind me, scowling as I laid my eyes upon a very large knife sticking out of the drywall where my head was just a few moments ago.
“Well, look what we have here.” A chilling, yet familiar voice called out from the shadows. He took a step forward into the light, making me clench my jaw in anger.
Still half cloaked in darkness, I saw a pair of expensive loafers and perfectly tailored Armani pants. He was wearing a white dress shirt tucked in with a few buttons undone. His sleeves were folded and pushed up, displaying his intricately designed tattoos that stretched from his hands to his neck. He was a massive man, standing at about 6’3 and made of solid muscle.
“What a pleasure running into you, Ace.” I said with sarcasm dripping off every word. His name coming out of my mouth tasted like poison. I leaned back against the wall, narrowing my eyes at him as I took another drag of my cigarette.
He grinned a perfect smile at me as he stepped forward again, slowly closing the space between us.
“It’ll be more pleasurable once you stop breathing.” He stated evilly before he lunged towards me.
I pulled the cigarette away from my mouth before flicking it at his face, making him bring his arm up to block it. I quickly grabbed his raised arm and stepped behind him, swinging it and pressing his arm painfully behind his back. I used his momentum as well as my grip on his wrist and shoulder to shove him into the wall.
“Well, that’s no way to treat a lady. Maybe your uncle can teach you some manners.” I teased as I pulled his arm, twisting his shoulder and making a grunt escape his lips.
“Oh wait, that’s right. He can’t.” I chucked wickedly as my body pressed into his. “Because I just killed him.” I stated as an evil smile stretched across my lips.
Ace used his free hand to roughly push off the wall, causing me to momentarily lose balance. He quickly grabbed the handle of the knife sticking out of the wall while I regained my footing. In one fluid motion, he pulled the blade out of the wall and turned his body, swinging the blade towards my body.
I quickly stepped backward, narrowly escaping the large dagger. I had to give it to him, he was one fast fucker. He quickly threw a jab at me, making me take a step and turn in order to prevent the blade from piercing my abdomen. I dodged a bit too late, causing the knife to graze my arm.
He threw a left hook with his free hand and I grunted as his knuckles connected with my cheekbone, the impact causing me to fall to the floor. Taking advantage of this opportunity, he jumped on top of me and straddled me.
Ace gripped my neck within his large hand and started increasing the pressure, cutting off my air. He raised the knife in his other hand, twirling the blade between his fingers as he looked down at me smiling.
“Aww come on, Grey. I thought you’d put up more of a fight.” He smirked, tracing my face lightly with the tip of his knife.
“Fu..ck Y-you.” I managed to breathe out as I bucked my hips forward with all my strength, causing him to lose his balance and tumble over.
I hit his wrist, causing it to buckle before I skillfully took the knife from him. I swung my leg over him, straddling him as I placed the knife to his neck.
“If you wanted to ride me all you had to do was ask.” Ace said, smirking as he stared up at me.
“Get over yourself.” I said coldly as my eyes narrowed.
I increased the pressure on his neck, making a small drop of blood begin to drip down his Adam’s apple. Even in the face of death, his demeanor didn’t change. He held onto that fearless expression as he looked me in the eyes.
Just as I was about to slit his throat, I was caught off guard by the sudden sound of sirens blaring outside the warehouse.
“Come out with your hands up!” A cop yelled through the speaker, making me look towards the nearest window. I saw the faint glow of red and blue lights light up the black sky, and I clenched my jaw in frustration.
I looked down at Ace to see his eyebrow raise in amusement.
“It wouldn’t look too good for you to come out covered in my blood, now would it, darling?” He said with a stupid smirk plastered on his face.
I slowly raised myself off of him, with the knife still pointed towards his neck, before I stood up and began stepping away from him.
He gracefully stood up and started backing away, chuckling to himself as he stared at me.
“Next time, you won’t be so lucky.” I said with the knife still raised in his direction.
“Until next time, Miss Grey.” He smirked before he disappeared into the darkness.

ACE DE LUCA POV
I would have killed her right then and there, but as my father always preached, “timing is everything.” And with what seemed to be half of New York’s police department outside, timing wasn’t on my side.
I quickly walked towards the side of the building back to the small door I originally entered from. I slowly opened the door before I walked out and around the side of the building. I pressed my back against the warehouse’s wall before I peeked my head out to evaluate the situation. I watched as the cops slammed an all-black battering ram through the north door, nearly shattering it before storming into the warehouse.
While they were distracted, I quickly sprinted from the wall towards a nearby alley. I climbed the fence with ease before jumping down onto the street below, listening to the chorus of rifles fill the air. I glanced back at the warehouse and saw the flashing lights from their automatics illuminating the windows, making me scoff lightly.
“If only she was that easy to kill.” I mumbled under my breath as I scowled.
My eyes narrowed as a pair of familiar headlights turned a corner. I walked towards the all-black Cadillac before swinging the door open and sliding into the backseat. I slammed the door in frustration, causing the entire car to shake.
My men looked at me with fear in their eyes as the car began to quickly drive away from the chaotic warehouse. Their eyes met mine before their gaze began drifting down to my neck.
“What?” I asked, my voice coming across colder than intended. They quickly turned their attention towards the road, avoiding my menacing gaze. I brought my finger to my throat and felt my warm blood dripping down my throat and onto my white shirt. I forgot that the little bitch cut me.
I looked at my reflection in the window beside me and raised my chin up to inspect the gash. Not enough to kill me, but deep enough to scar.
Yet another scar caused by that stupid, ignorant brat.
Allegra motherfuckin’ Grey.
As an assassin I have one job and one job only: to make sure I kill my target. It doesn’t matter how it’s done as long as it gets done.
But for eight years, eight motherfucking years, I’ve been trying to kill the infamous Allegra Grey, and for eight years I’ve managed to fall short every single time.
I’ve been able to make a name for myself in the world of organized crime. While many know me as the most lethal and dangerous assassin in the Italian Mafia, they also know me as the man who’s continuously failed to kill this little brat.
I clenched my jaw as my hands began to shake. I pursed my lips as I let my frustration out on the window beside me, punching it repeatedly and making the bulletproof glass begin to crack.
With one last jab the window shattered, causing the two men in the front to look at me through the rear-view mirror with wide eyes.
I scowled at them before looking down at my now bleeding hand. Pieces of glass stuck out of my skin, and I began to carefully pull the shards out as I began thinking of all the ways I’d kill that annoying little girl, Allegra Grey.
I loathed her. The hatred I felt for her surpassed anything I had ever felt. The best day of my life would be the day she stopped breathing, and I could guarantee, it would be at my hand.
I didn’t want to just shoot her; it would be too quick and too painless. I wanted her to suffer. I wanted her to watch as her life crumbled around her. To make her suffer in inconceivable ways. I wanted Allegra Grey to die a slow, and painful death before I hung her pretty little head on a mantle above my desk.
Because no one messes with the De Lucas and lives to tell about it.

ALLEGRA GREY POV
I watched as Ace disappeared into the shadows until he was out of sight. A scoff escaped my lips as I grabbed my rifle bag and started running towards my other escape route. I was always well prepared for my missions, and made sure to map out three or four alternate exits in case of emergency.
I reached the back of the building and crouched by a nearby window. I grabbed the strap of my rifle and secured it to my back before I reached into my pocket and took out a pair of black gloves. Not wanting to leave any fingerprints, I slid the gloves onto my hands. I slowly raised my head up and peered through the glass to see that the north side of the building was completely surrounded by cops.
“Lovely.” I said sarcastically before I pushed off the wall and ran towards the south side of the warehouse.
I quickly ran up the stairs as the northernmost door burst open, revealing dozens of New York’s finest aiming their automatic weapons directly at me. I ducked as I continued up the stairs, bullets piercing the wall behind me before I reached the next floor.
I ran across the barren room, increasing my pace as I heard the rumble of footsteps following closely behind me. I quickly reached the other end of the room, and found the tall, narrow window nearest to the fire escape. I lifted my right foot and used my momentum to kick the glass, shattering it instantly. I looked over to the left and saw the rusted fire escape. I stepped up onto the edge of the window before jumping towards the platform. I grabbed the rail and pulled myself up onto the platform.
Without missing a beat, I sprinted towards the end of the fire escape and grabbed the rail. I pushed myself up and over the railing, jumping off the edge and down into a nearby alleyway.
I rolled as I landed, absorbing the impact before I gracefully stood up and turned the corner. Faint sounds of automatic rifles began to fade from the distance as I made my way towards my vehicle.
I dug into my pocket, pulling out my keys and pressing the push to start feature. I turned the corner to see my all-black LaFerrari roar to life, making a large smile stretch across my face as I opened the driver’s side door and slid into the leather seat. I carelessly tossed my sniper rifle into the passenger seat before taking a much-needed deep breath.
As my adrenaline died down, I felt a sharp, shooting pain in my arm. I cautiously took off my leather jacket that was now drenched in blood, and evaluated the wound in the rear-view mirror. It was deep and jagged, definitely in need of a few stitches, but that inexperienced prick missed my artery so it would be fine.
It was a forty-five minute drive to the safe house, and bleeding out from a knife scratch was not on my list of “Ways I Would Like to Die.” I took off my white tank top, exposing my black lace bra, and wrapped it around my arm to slow down the bleeding. I bit a piece of the fabric between my teeth, pulling it with my head to tighten it as much as possible.
I peeled out of the street and made my way towards the safe house, making sure to take the long route in case I was being followed. As the street lights passed by me in a blur, I felt blood drip down my bicep and my thoughts drifted to the “assassin” that has added yet another scar to my body.
Ace motherfuckin’ De Luca.
Out of the thousands of assassinations I had executed, he was and continued to be my only failed mission. We’d been out to kill each other for eight years. And for eight fucking years I’d been hunting him down only for that fucker to reappear again and again.
Ace was the heir to the Italian Mafia, as well as their “best assassin”. The Italian Mafia wasn’t our only rival, but they were definitely the biggest pain in the ass we had.
The Italian Mafia and the American Mafia had been at war for decades. Our hatred for each other started when my great great grandfather was killed by Ace’s great great grandfather. (A lot of greats, I know.) Since then, it’d been nothing but bloodshed between our two families. Wives, uncles, children, husbands… countless casualties on both sides. We were killing each other mercilessly in pursuit of revenge that had long outlived our ancestors.
My knuckles gripped the steering wheel, turning white as I imagined all the ways I would kill that annoying prick. I wanted to make sure his death was so agonizingly painful that when I was done with him, he’d be begging for the blessing of death.
Lost in my thoughts of torture, I didn’t notice how much time had passed. I recognized the area immediately and felt relief pour through me as I neared the safehouse. I pulled into the isolated street and made my way through the lush forest surrounding me. Our safe house was away from the hustle and bustle of New York; we liked to keep our isolation, for obvious and illegal reasons.
I pulled up to the first checkpoint, scanned my fingerprint, and watched as the black iron gate slowly slid open.
“Welcome home, ma’am.” The guard spoke, attempting to keep his eyes off my exposed chest. I acknowledged him with a swift nod as my Ferrari roared past the gate.
I made my way to the second checkpoint and typed in the ridiculously long code my father insisted on having. He changed it every week. I praised my photographic memory as the second gates swung open.
I pulled in front of our mansion, which had more security than the damn White House, and parked in front of the garage. I walked out, and threw my leather jacket over my shoulders before locking my car. I made my way to the fifteen foot tall double doors and swung both of them open roughly.
Like always, the House was alive with movement and noise from the gang members that lived here. But as the doors swung open, the usual bustle that accompanied the mansion vanished, leaving only the sounds of my boots hitting the marble floor to pierce the tension in the air. I scowled at the members who were blatantly staring at me, watching as I walked through the manor in nothing but a bra.
“ Horny motherfuckers, “ I thought to myself.
I made my way to the kitchen, my favorite place. I opened the fridge and grabbed a water bottle and an apple from the counter. As I was about to take a bite from my apple, I paused mid bite, feeling a presence to my right. I glanced over to the table where at least 20 men were staring at my breasts, mouths open.
“If you want to keep your dicks attached to your body, I’d recommend turning the fuck around.” I hissed before taking a loud bite from my apple.
Their bodies immediately turned, and they turned their attention to different areas of the room. I felt satisfaction run through my body. I loved the effect I had on people.
I made my way to my father’s office, eating my apple on the way there. There were multiple wings within our mansion, all obnoxiously large. Walking from the kitchen, which was in the east wing, to my father’s office in the west wing felt like a mile walk.
As I finally made it to his office, I barged in without knocking, causing his two double doors to explode open.
4
“I see you still haven’t learned how to knock.” My father stated behind his desk, puffing on an expensive cigar in his equally expensive suit. I glanced over to see my mother sitting on his desk, leaning against his chest with her cheeks flushed.
What the fuck did I just walk into.
“Sorry to interrupt.” I said as I eyed them awkwardly while I walked to a cabinet. I swung it open, and grabbed an emergency medical kit and walked over to a couch in the corner of the office.
Noticing what I was wearing, my father quickly covered his eyes, mumbling a curse under his breath as he shook his head.
Due to my father’s position he needed to be an intimidating man, and being a 6’3 trigger happy Mafia boss, it wasn’t hard for him. His tan skin and dark features made him look exotic. His black hair was always styled in a long crew cut. My father always tried to be clean shaved, yet he always had a five-o-clock shadow adorning his sharp jawline at the end of the day. Even at the age of forty-seven he worked out every single day, and would happily take down anyone who stood in his way.
“Allegra Skylar Grey. Please tell me you did not walk through the house wearing THAT?!” My mother screeched in anger. I glanced down at my revealed chest before looking back up at her unphased.
I got most of my features from my mother. We shared the same icy blue eyes, high and pronounced cheekbones, full heart shaped lips, and a slightly upturned nose. My mother was the type of woman that was naturally beautiful, and only wore makeup for special occasions. My mother had never taken a liking to fighting and was delicate. But what she lacked in muscle, she made up for in brains. She was the glue and the heart that kept this organization running, and my father often relied on her intuition and knowledge to help run the legal side of his businesses.
“Oh this?” I laughed. “It’s better than bleeding out.” I said sarcastically as I placed my jacket next to me and nodded towards my arm. The blood had now completely soaked through the white fabric of my shirt, causing blood to drip down my arm and onto the hardwood floor. She bit her tongue, but concern flashed over her eyes as she looked at my wound.
My mother should have been used to this lifestyle by now, and the dangers that came with it. She never approved of the lifestyle I’d chosen, mainly because unlike other Mafia heirs I was actually given a choice.
For as long as I could remember, my father had been grooming me to take over the Mafia. He trained me personally in sharp shooting, Taekwondo, Jiu jitsu, and any other martial art form that would help me survive the dangers that came with this lifestyle. My rigorous training ended when I turned eighteen, and my parents gave me the option of having a semi-normal life. But instead, I chose to continue what my ancestors started. To me, it was a privilege and an honor to carry on the Grey name, as well as someday lead this glorious Mafia.
But my mother was born into a normal life. She was studying to be a neuroscientist when she witnessed a murder by none other than Xavier Grey, my father. He swore her into Omertà, and it’s been happily ever after since. Three years later she became Beverly Grey and a year after that their favorite child was born: me.
My parents were the typical power couple. But the thing I admired most about them wasn’t their businesses, the Mafia, or their financial success. It was their relationship. Even after being together for decades, they still acted like newlyweds most of the time.
It was nauseating, but cute.
“It’s just a scratch, mom.” I reassured her with a smile as I took out all the necessary equipment to stitch myself up. I didn’t like others touching me.
I grabbed a cloth and started to clean the wound. It burned like hell, but I showed no emotion and hid my discomfort from my worrying mother.
Silence filled the air until my father awkwardly cleared his throat.
“Allegra, we’ve been meaning to talk to you.” He stated as he lifted his chin.
“I’m all ears.” I said, looking down at my arm as I pressed the needle into the wound, creating the first stitch.
“The yearly ball is coming up soon.” My father stated cautiously. I could tell he was treading carefully, picking his words strategically in an attempt to not piss me off.
Yet he was failing miserably.
The fucking yearly ball, I thought to myself. I enjoyed the mafia life, but hated the formalities. Every year, the leader of the Mexican Mafia threw a stupid ball as a way to bring together every crime family in the world.
Ridiculous, I know.
And every year, it was a “peaceful” environment to talk business and create alliances. It was like a Met Gala for fucking criminals.
“Mhmmm.” I hummed as I created the second stitch, still not looking up.
“It’s next week… and—” He said awkwardly.
“I get it. Don’t kill anyone there.” I said quickly, annoyance dripping off my words as I created the fourth stitch.
“I’m serious, Allegra. We cannot cause any trouble with the Mexican Mafia. If you overstep your boundaries again, I cannot save you. Our partnership with him almost ended because of what happened last year.” My father said sternly as he stared at me.
“He fucking started it.” I mumbled as I looked up at him for a moment.
My quick fingers finished up the sixth stitch on my arm, and I cut the excess thread away. I sighed as I stood up and stared at my parents with narrowed eyes.
I knew exactly what he was referring to. Last year, Ace and I… had a little altercation. And by “little altercation,” I mean we were trying to kill each other… again. Eventually our little quarrel destroyed all of the decorations, tables, chairs, and anything else you could think of. It was absolute chaos.
“I promise I’ll keep the peace. Besides, the ball is a time for prosperity and joy among murders and gangsters, right?” I said sarcastically as I rolled my eyes.
“Your sister will also be attending.” My mother spoke out with a tight-lipped smile.
“Sister?” I hissed out angrily. “I have no sister.” I said coldly as I crossed my arms.
“Allegra, it’s been over a year. Everyone makes mistakes and I’m sure Victoria—” She said quickly.
“Doing something intentionally is no mistake, mother.” I growled, cutting her off.
I had one sister, who was a complete disgrace to this family. Victoria never took her training seriously, had no values, and didn’t know a thing about fucking loyalty. She never wanted a life in the Mafia yet used our money and power to get whatever she wanted. She moved to LA to pursue a career as an underwear model, leaving me to inherit the family business.
“She’s coming with her… boyfriend. They will be here tomorrow, so please control yourself.” My mother said cautiously as her eyes widened slightly.
“I thought he knew better than to show his face around here.” I snorted. “You better tell that sad excuse of a sister that if she even looks at me the wrong way, I will not hesitate to snap her neck.” I said seriously as I stared at my mother.
I heard my father let out a string of profanities under his breath as I walked away laughing, slamming the door behind me, causing the walls to shake.
After a fifteen minute walk to my room, I swung the doors open to my sanctuary. My room was mainly black, with red and white accents throughout. I stepped into the bathroom, and started the shower.
It was a large walk-in shower with waterfall shower heads covering the entire ceiling within it. There was a bench to sit down in the corner away from the water that was lightly decorated with a vase, my shampoo, conditioner, soaps, and some flowers in a glass container. Probably the only girly thing in my entire room.
I opened a drawer in my vanity and pulled out a waterproof wrap. I gently wrapped my arm, careful not to pull on my new stitches, and stepped in the shower. I tilted my head back and sighed.
I lathered my hair with shampoo, enjoying the lavender scent. My shoulders relaxed as I closed my eyes, letting the hot water wash away the dried blood that adorned my skin.
My eyes shot open when I heard faint footstep come from my room. Remaining calm, I continued to lather my hair, listening as the steps got closer.
I looked in the reflection of the glass wall to see my bathroom door slowly start to move, with the tip of a silencer sticking out of the opening.
I waited for the door to open further to reveal a very large arm dressed in all black. From the looks of it, a very large and muscular man was attempting to sneakily step into the bathroom.
Not today, motherfucker.
I quickly reached into the vase, pushed aside the flowers and grabbed my emergency glock. I always made sure to keep a weapon near me at all times and had different guns and knives planted throughout the house.
I quickly hit the shower door with my elbow, opening it before I shot him in the forearm. A deep scream filled the bathroom as he immediately dropped his weapon.
With shampoo still in my hair, I ran out of the shower and kicked the door open to my room. The assailant was attempting to run towards my balcony when I shot both of his kneecaps.
I walked over to him as he fell to the floor, gripping one of his knees while he let out an agonizing scream. At this point, our useless security finally became aware that there was an intruder. I sighed as I heard their thundering footsteps approach my door before it swung open, revealing two guards with their guns drawn.
“A little late, dontcha think?” I said sarcastically as I looked at the man on my bedroom floor before turning around to face them.
Their mouths flew open, eyeing my wet naked body. I rolled my eyes before I shot one in the right shoulder and the other in the left.
“Next time, do your job properly.” I stated seriously as I rolled my eyes and walked into the bathroom. I grabbed a silky black robe and quickly tied it around my body before waking back into my bedroom.
“Yes… S-sorry, ma’am.” They both gasped while gripping their now bleeding shoulders.
I walked over to the still screaming intruder and stomped on his head, knocking him out instantly. I ripped off his ski mask and clenched my jaw as I laid my eyes upon the hideous man who tried to take my life. He was older, too pale to be an Italian or Mexican. Probably an assassin of some sort, and obviously not a good one to have his face covered in scars.
Colorful tattoos covered part of his face and neck. I ripped off his shirt, examining the ink that adorned his skin. He was muscular, and by muscular, I mean enormous. He was at least 6’4 or 6’5, and looked as if he was on a steady diet of steroids since he was a teenager. My eyes scanned his tattoos until my eyes wandered to a familiar marking on his chest.
My jaw clenched as I examined the familiar brand in the center of his chest.
“Inform my parents about this situation. Take this fucker to the basement and make sure he doesn’t die.” I said to the bleeding guards. They nodded and immediately started to drag the unconscious body out of my room with their good arms.
“Oh, and get someone to clean up this shit too.” I yelled out, waving my hand at the fresh blood that now decorated my floor.

ACE DE LUCA POV
I stormed into the estate, still fuming from what happened in the warehouse. I made my way downstairs to my father’s office, replaying the fight I had with that brat over and over again. Not believing in knocking, I grabbed the silver handles of the large white doors and barged into the room.
I found my father pacing his office, screaming to some poor soul in Italian. You could tell when he was pissed because he always switched between Italian to English.
I made my way to a decorative chair in the corner and sat, watching as shit hit the fan.
“ CAZZO!“ He screamed as he held the phone away from his ear and directly in front of his mouth.
“I don’t give a fuck what you have to do, dipshit, just FIX IT.” He yelled before he threw his phone at the wall, causing the glass screen on his iPhone to shatter.
I watched as my father walked over to his black L-shaped desk. He grabbed the back of his leather chair, pulling it out before he plopped onto it. A large sigh escaped his lips before he brought his hands up to his temples, rubbing them roughly.
“Your brother is going to be the death of me.” He mumbled as he closed his eyes.
Romano was my little brother, and he was by far the smartest idiot I knew. He was brilliant and learned quickly, but he was messy. From pissing off our suppliers, leaving witnesses behind, to even killing the wrong fucking target, we could always count on Romano to make stupid mistakes. That, and he couldn’t keep his dick in his pants for more than two seconds. That year alone he had three girls that had pregnancy scares. Kid needed to learn how to wrap up.
“In other news,” I said, finally breaking the silence. “Uncle Rico is dead.”
“Good riddance. I’m glad that sneaky bastard is gone. He was always stealing from the business and blowing our money away at strip clubs.” My father said seriously as he continued to rub his temples.
“Too bad they got to him before I did. The Americans actually did us a favor for once.” I laughed dryly as the irony of tonight’s events were finally settling. The reason why I was even at that restaurant to begin with was because I was sent there to assassinate Uncle Rico myself. Sadly, as I was about to take the shot, that bitch beat me to it.
“They did do us a favor killing Rico, but then those motherfuckers stole our shipment of drugs from Italy.” He slammed his hand on the desk as he stared at me.
“Fucking Americans.” I mumbled as I walked over to the desk in the corner. I opened the cabinet and took out a bottle of expensive whiskey. I poured two glasses, and handed one to my father. We clinked our glasses together before I downed the entire thing in one gulp.
“Son, the ball is coming up soon.” He spoke coldly.
“So?” I said, refilling my drink. I tilted my head back as I brought the glass to my lips, drinking the entire contents in one gulp yet again.
“We cannot have a repeat of last year.” My father said as he stared at me like he was glaring directly into my soul.
“She started it.” I sneered as I stared at my father.
“I don’t give a flying fuck. Do not embarrass this family again, capisci ?” He yelled
“If you’re going to kill her, do it outside the ball, I don’t give a fuck. But we can’t break this relationship with the Mexican Mafia, it’s too important.” My father said as his eyes narrowed.
“Sir yes sir.” I spit out sarcastically as I gave him a small salute.
Fuck this stupid ball. Every year, it was the same shit. We were fucking criminals, so why were we pretending to act civil for a night? We all got together and saw our rivals, our enemies, and pretended that we were at peace for the sake of business while we mentally plotted their death. It was a waste of time. A very extravagant and expensive waste of time.
“Your neck… was it her again?” His icy glare was now fixed on blood still dripping down my neck. His words snapped me out of my thoughts.
“The one and fucking only.” I growled as I grabbed the bottle of whiskey and took a swig.
“How many years has it been? And you still can’t kill her? The fuck is wrong with you, son?” He hissed.
I ask myself that every day.
I grabbed my empty glass and threw it at the wall. It’s not like his words were anything new to me. I stormed out of his office and headed towards my room. I needed a long fucking shower after today.
When I finally reached my room, I grabbed the handle of the door and paused as I heard a muffled voice coming from the other side. I quickly gripped the gun on my waistband with my free hand and pulled it out. I turned the safety off before I placed my finger on the trigger and turned the handle.
I swung the door open to see two women I fucked last week sprawled out on my bed. The redhead was still wearing her lingerie, while the blonde was completely naked. I didn’t know their names, frankly because I didn’t care enough to ask. The blonde one had her legs spread, moaning as the redhead was pleasuring her.
“Daddy’s back!” The blonde said seductively as she stared at me. As soon as she did, the redhead lifted her head from between her legs and turned to me.
“Why are you here? But more importantly how the fuck did you get in my house!?” I yelled as I furrowed my eyebrows.
They seemed to ignore my question as they walked over to me. Their hips swayed with every step as they stared at me hungrily. When they finally closed the distance between us, they dropped to their knees and began fumbling with my belt buckle.
“We just wanted to see you again.” The redhead said with a seductive smile before she began undoing my belt. Once she loosened it, the blonde began to pull my pants down as she giggled quietly.
The redhead grabbed her hair and put it to one side, and I narrowed my eyes as I saw a faint mark on the back of her neck.
I weaved my hand into her hair before I grabbed a fistful. I pulled her head forward and lifted her hair up, revealing the brand that adorned her skin. I immediately raised my gun, pressing it against the blonde’s temple before I pulled the trigger. Blood drenched my clothes as her lifeless body fell limp onto the floor.
As I turned my attention to the redhead, she quickly reached into her lace bra, and pulled out a small syringe filled with clear liquid. She launched her arm forward, attempting to stab it into my thigh.
I side stepped her, before I aimed my gun and shot her hand. The syringe fell to the ground as she let out an ear-piercing scream. I lifted the butt of my gun up before crashing it down onto the side of her head, knocking her out.
My father and a few guards barged through the door, all with guns out as they began evaluating the situation at hand. Blood was sprayed all over my room and floor.
“Which one of you idiots let them in?” I growled as I looked at the guards.
“Sir, we never allow anyone besides family on the premises.” The man said sternly as he tensed.
“Well, looks like someone fucked that up, didn’t they?” I said angrily as I threw my hands up, displaying my nearly crimson dress shirt.
I mumbled a string of curses under my breath as I looked over at the flowing curtains near my balcony. The door was cracked, letting a chilling breeze pass through my now silent room.
“…Father, I think we might have a problem.” I said sternly as I motioned to the redhead laying at my feet. I bent down, grabbing her hair once more and moving it to the side, showing my father the brand.
He tensed as his eyes fixated on the mark. I watched as my father’s hands clenched into fists, and his demeanor grew tense.
“Get this fucking mess taken care of.” I commanded as I stood up and began unbuttoning my drenched shirt.
“Take her to the back house. I’ll handle this personally.” I hissed at the guards.

ALLEGRA GREY POV
I rinsed off the shampoo and fresh blood from my hair, grateful that I was finally able to finish my damn shower.
I dried off, and quickly stepped into my walk-in closet. The racks were all filled with mostly black clothes, but I did have some splashes of color here and there.
My shelves were filled with designer brands: Gucci, Hermes, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, I had most of their collections. However, I always ended up wearing the same thing most days: a black tank top and ripped black jeans.
I didn’t care much for looking fashionable while I was slitting someone’s throat. Besides, black went with everything and it didn’t show when you got blood on the fabric.
I reached in a drawer and pulled out my usual outfit before I walked over to the door in my closet. I swung it open and walked into my shoe room, because a shelf just wasn’t enough.
My hands grazed each pair as I walked past. If there was one thing I loved, it was my shoes. Knowing I was about to get dirty, I threw on a pair of worn-out combat boots. I quickly braided my hair in a long French braid that fell at my hips, the same way I usually did whenever I went out on a mission.
I walked over to my desk in the corner of my room and grabbed my half empty pack of cigarettes. I made my way out of the room, shoving the box into my back pocket before closing the bedroom door behind me.
The basement was where we kept most of our prisoners, and it was honestly my second favorite place in the house. My father relied on me to get information, and trust me, I was damn good at it.
As I descended the last flight of stairs, I laid my eyes upon the entrance to the basement. There were four men guarding the door, each with a stoic face and semi-automatic rifle. They acknowledged me with a quick nod of their head and swiftly moved aside.
“Your father’s already in there.” The bald one said. I nodded before I placed my hand on the ID scanner. I waited for a moment as the scanner flashed white before turning green, beeping for a moment and causing the metal door to slide open.
I popped a cigarette between my teeth as I walked through the door. I pulled out my zippo lighter, flicking it open with one hand as I inhaled. I slid the sleek black lighter into my pocket as I hummed Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones . I took a mental note to get an elevator installed as I made my way down five flights of stairs until I reached the cells, each also with individual ID scanners at each door courtesy of my overprotective father.
I found the one I needed and placed my right finger on the scanner. It beeped in recognition, and I joyfully walked inside.
This’ll be fun.
The dim room was only illuminated from the single light hanging from the ceiling. My father and two men were standing in front of our prisoner, most likely waiting for me to arrive before getting started. There was a rectangular table pressed against the wall displaying different devices and tools.
The assassin’s hands and feet were zip tied to the back of the metal chair he was sitting in. Still unconscious, his head hung low as blood dripped from the gash in his head.
“Those things will kill you, you know.” My father scolded, nodding to the cigarette in my mouth.
“Trust me, Dad, when the devil comes for me, it won’t be because I smoke too many cigarettes.” I laughed as I leaned against the wall, propping one leg up and crossing my arms.
My father rolled his eyes at me dramatically before he made his way over to the assassin. I blew smoke out of the corner of my mouth as I watched my father grab the man roughly by his hair.
“Wake the fuck up.” My father yelled as he held the assassin’s head up. He cocked his fist back before punching him across the face, making the man’s eyes open rapidly as he let out a grunt.
“Who do you work for?” My father asked as he grabbed his face roughly, forcing him to make eye contact.
“Go… fuck yourself.” The prisoner hissed through his teeth. He then threw his head back a bit and spat in my father’s face. I watched as my father slowly dragged a hand down his face, wiping off the spit that just hit his cheek.
“Oh, you’re in for it now.” I laughed from the shadows.
My father released a barrage of punches to his face, filling the air with sounds of his knuckles hitting his cheekbones. He then kicked the man in the center of his chest, causing the chair to tip backwards and fall on the floor.
I watched as my father walked back towards me, his attention focused on his now bloody knuckles as he leaned against the wall.
“Go have some fun, baby girl.” He grinned as he looked up at me.
“Oh, with pleasure.” I said with a smirk as I finished my cigarette. I pushed off the wall as I flicked my cigarette onto the floor.
“Stand him up.” I commanded the guards as I walked over to the table in the back of the room. I sighed as my eyes gazed upon the different devices and tools at my disposal. Feeling reckless, I smirked as I grabbed the large drill and four long screws.
I grabbed another metal chair in front of the table and dragged it across the concrete floor, filling the air with the sound of scraping metal until I was directly in front of the assassin. I turned the chair so it was backwards before I grabbed the back of it and sat down. I leaned forward on the backrest as I stared at our prisoner with my head tilted and a small smile on my lips.
The man stared back at me with uncertainty painted in his eyes. A deep scowl graced his lips as he attempted to mask his fear. I grabbed another cigarette from my pocket and slowly lit it as I inhaled deeply. Our eyes locked as I exhaled the smoke into the air above him.
“What’s a little bitch like you gonna do?” He said with a thick Russian accent.
“Your boss must not have told you who you were sent to kill.” I mumbled through my cigarette.
“Now, I’m feeling generous today. So, I’ll ask you this one more time. Who sent you?” I asked seriously.
“Burn in hell. I’m not telling you shit.” He shouted as he leaned his head forward.
“Why did Moskov send you?” I said sternly before taking a long drag of my cigarette.
His eyes widened immediately, confirming my assumption that he was sent by the one and only Vladimir Moskov.
“Your branding is of the Russian Mafia.” I said, unamused, as I lifted my chin, answering his unspoken question of how I knew.
The Russians were the only ones to brand their gang members as an initiation. It was always the same symbol with their mantra, “Death Before Disloyalty” written in Russian underneath. Anyone who was involved in organized crime knew that brand and who it belonged to.
“Now, why did Moskov send you to kill me?” I asked again, now losing my patience.
“Like I said. I’m not telling you shit.” He sneered through his teeth.
“Wrong answer.” I said, still looking him in the eyes as I put my cigarette out on his forehead, making his piercing screams fill the room.
Music to my ears.
After a few moments, I removed the cigarette from his head and flicked it carelessly to the side. I reached down and grabbed the drill, revving it a few times before turning my attention back to the prisoner. I placed the screw on the center of his hand, staring at him as sweat began to form on his forehead.
I smirked before I drilled his hand to the chair, making him bellow out in pain.
“Why did he send you?” I asked again as I grabbed another screw from the floor.
He remained silent before letting out a small whimper from the pain. His breathing was ragged as he stared at me with wide eyes. I impatiently drilled his other hand to the chair, causing him to cry out once more.
“For such a big man, you scream like a bitch.” I laughed as I grabbed the two remaining screws near my foot.
“Why were you sent to kill me?” I asked again as I stood up.
“I hope you burn in hell!” He screamed as I moved my chair out of the way.
“EEEHHH. Wrong answer again.” I said annoyingly as I kicked his chest in the exact spot my father did. The chair tipped over roughly, bouncing slightly as his body hit the floor. I bit the end of one of the screws, holding it in my mouth as I worked on his ankles.
As the man began screaming in agony, I put down the drill and reached for my knife.
“You have very beautiful eyes for a Russian.” I stated, caressing his cheek with my blade.
“Are those specks of blue I see?” I said as I got closer to his face and tilted my head.
“Now, if you don’t tell me why Moskov sent you I’ll rip those pretty eyes out of their fucking socket.” I warned as I inched my blade towards his eyes.
“Okay, okay, okay, I’ll talk, fuck, woman!” The assassin screamed as my blade caressed his eyelid.
“Moskov’s coming for you, and your whole family. He wants to take over your business. Even after I’m dead, more will replace me. He’s coming for you, Greys, so you better be ready.” He explained evilly before he smiled and let out a raspy laugh.
Vladimir Moskov had the audacity to not only send a shitty assassin to take my life but to threaten my family? The thought of someone plotting against the ones I loved infuriated me. No one fucked with my family and lived.
I quickly moved my blade to his throat, and a fluid motion I slit it open. I slid my knife back into its holder before walking back towards my father. His eyes were wide and his hand was pressed against his chin, something he did when he was often deep in thought.
“My office. Now.” He ordered as his eyebrows furrowed deeply. We made our way to the exit. Before walking out I looked back at the guards before my eyes traveled back to his convulsing body.
“Make sure to leave his brand intact so I can send it to Moskov.” I ordered before I walked out of the room with my father.
“I’ve trained you well, Allegra.” My father said with a smile as he beamed with pride.
The walk back to his office was eerily quiet as we both wrapped our minds around the assassin’s threat. The Russian Mafia was not to be fucked with.
Our Mafia was known to be one of the most powerful in the world with our closest rival being the Italians. But the Russian Mafia easily had us outnumbered. They were allied with the French, and with their combined numbers the two Mafias on their own could devour us.
I entered the office and made my way to the sofa, while my father sat behind his desk. I watched as he rested his elbows on the desk while his hands rested on his chin.
“Well, fuck.” He finally spoke as he looked over at me.
“We finally became a big enough threat to Moskov that he wants to take us down. If anything, it’s a compliment.” I said as I smirked.
“He has many powerful connections, and many allies. Knowing Moskov, he wouldn’t launch an assassination against another Mafia without his allies backing him up.” He said sternly while crossing his arms.
“We just need more allies than him, plain and simple. Maybe we can persuade Fernando to help us end Moskov once and for all.” I suggested. “Our Mafia is powerful enough that if we have another powerhouse backing us up, we can easily end the Russians, as well as all of their allies.” I said seriously as I crossed my arms.
“I’ll make connections at the ball while you try to get on Fernando’s good side. The Mexican Mafia would be a good choice considering we already do business with them.” He spoke seriously as he intertwined his fingers together.
“Understood.” I said as I nodded. I stood up and started to make my way to the door when my father cleared his throat.
“Allegra Sky.” My dad spoke softly.
I turned over my shoulder with my eyebrow raised. The only time he ever used my middle name was when I fucked up.
“You’ll make a great leader one day and I’m proud to be your father. I’m certain that you’ll not only thrive in my position, but excel me in every way. I’m so proud of you.” He said sincerely as he smiled. He walked towards me and embraced me in a heartwarming hug.
Not knowing how to react, I tensed up immediately. Moments like this were so uncommon in our household. I was trained to never show emotion, to never be weak. But it did feel good to have my father’s support.
In the history of organized crime, there had never been a female Don. Other families doubted my father for trusting his eldest daughter to take over the Mafia. For years they suggested that he find another heir, a male heir. They were pushing for him to even adopt a son to prevent me from taking over. He was told that I wasn’t fit for the job, and I’d cause the organization to crumble.
So, I made it my life goal to prove everyone wrong, to prove myself worthy to take over the American Mafia. That I could not only lead this organization as a woman, but take over the entire industry. That Allegra Skylar Grey would go down in history as the most ruthless, cold-hearted Don that ever lived.
“Thanks, Dad. I love you.” I tightly hugged him back, and exited the room before the situation got awkward.

ALLEGRA GREY POV
“Mommy! Daddy! I’m home!” A high-pitched screech woke me from my sleep.
I rolled over in my bed and groaned into my pillow once I heard Victoria’s high-pitched voice echo throughout the entire mansion.
I closed my eyes, trying to ignore that the spawn of Satan was in my house, but she ruined it again.
“HELLO! Your favorite daughter is here!” She screeched again.
I grunted in my pillow and looked at my phone. 8:25 am. She really couldn’t come any later? I scrolled through my contacts, finding the one person who could actually convince me to not murder my sister.
It rang twice before she answered.
“Please tell me that’s not who I think it is?” Alice asked in an annoyed voice.
“Unfortunately.” I responded as I scowled.
“Jesus Christ, she’s more annoying than I remember. I’ll get ready and meet you at your room with the alcohol.” Alice mumbled.
“This is why you’re my best friend.” I smiled as I sat up and rubbed my eyes.
“And don’t you forget it.” She said playfully before she hung up.
Alice was my best friend, and my only friend. She was pretty much my adopted sister. She was an orphan, living on the streets for most of her childhood. She survived by pickpocketing and stealing. My father found her at one of his jobs when she was thirteen. Alice pickpocketed him and stole his Rolex when he wasn’t looking. He was surprised by her courage and her talent, and offered her an ultimatum: work for him, or keep living on the street. She said accepting his offer was the greatest decision she ever made, and we’d been best friends ever since she came to live with us.
Alice never told us about her life before the American Mafia, but whatever she was doing before this made her one hell of a thief. She taught me most of what I knew about how to steal effectively, and I’m not talking about small jobs. I’m talking about government banks, rival warehouses, and intercepting shipments.
I cursed at myself for never being a morning person as I got up from my bed and slowly made my way to the bathroom. I combed through my mess of hair, and threw on some black jeans, a tight-fitting black crop top, and a black leather jacket. I finished my look with some black booties with silver spikes on them, just in case I needed to roundhouse Victoria in the face.
Once I finished, my door barged open, revealing Alice in a black crop top, black joggers, and a baggy red and black flannel and white high-top sneakers. She kicked my door open since her hands were filled with a large bottle of whiskey and some glasses. She looked at me with a mischievous smile plastered on her face.
She made her way to my dresser, placed the bottle down and opened it with her teeth. She poured two glasses before handing me one.
Whenever I was near Victoria, I had the overwhelming urge to bash her head against a wall until she stopped breathing. In order to prevent that, Alice and I found that we were a bit more docile while we were blackout drunk. So, it had been a tradition that every time she came to curse us with her presence, we opened up a bottle of whiskey and downed the entire thing.
“Bottoms up, bitch.” Alice said as she smirked and lifted her drink. We clinked our glasses against each other before downing the entire glass.
“So, why is Barbie visiting?” She asked as she poured us another drink.
“She’s attending the ball next week. Mom always wants us to appear like we’re a functional family in public.” I laughed as I took my refilled glass.
“She also brought your dickhead cousin.” I said as I rolled my eyes and chugged my entire glass.
“That motherfucker. I’ll send his ass back to the hospital if he comes near me.” Alice said angrily with a scowl before throwing her drink back.
“Alright, three more and I think I’ll be sedated enough not to kill them.” I said as I quickly refilled my drink again.
Alice and I ended up killing the entire bottle between the two of us. We weren’t lightweights, but our small statures and empty stomachs were definitely working against us.
We were shitfaced.
We stumbled down the halls until we finally reached the living room. My father, mother, demon of a sister, and her bitch of a boyfriend were all seated awkwardly in the living room.
My sister always wore pink, and not the cute kind of pastel pink either. It was always neon fucking pink. Normally, I wasn’t against plastic surgery. If anything, I supported it. If you wanted to change your looks because it would make you more confident, then by all means, get it. Pop off, sis.
But in my sister’s case, she’d had so much plastic surgery done that she barely looked like she belonged in this family. At least twenty grand went to her upturned nose, ten grand on her raised cheekbones, two thousand per lip fill, and thirty thousand dollars for her double D breast implants. Not to mention the fifty thousand dollars that she used on Botox, jaw filler, cheek filler, and liposuction. Her five hundred dollar hair extensions reached down to her hips like mine, and her natural blue eyes were the only thing we had in common.
The only reason I even knew how much her procedures cost was because she used the Mafia’s funds to pay for her lifestyle.
Then there was her sad excuse of a boyfriend, Blake Fucking Radcliff. This sad excuse of a man was Alice’s cousin. They were never close, and he practically abandoned her during her childhood on the streets. He came back into her life once he found out she was making a name for herself in the Mafia. He wanted to work for my father, but was too much of a spineless prick to even pass his training.
“WASSUP BITCHES!” Alice screamed, throwing her hands in the air. I stood back in a daze with my eyes half closed, drunk off my ass.
My father stifled a laugh while my mother took one look at us before sighing deeply and shaking her head in disappointment.
My dad had always been on my side of this family feud. He hated Victoria’s boyfriend, Blake, with a passion. He hated him so much that he even tried to get him assassinated three times, only to have my mother talk him out of it.
It wasn’t a secret that I was always his favorite daughter. Don’t get me wrong, he loved my sister, but because of the time we spent during my training we formed an unbreakable bond. It was mainly my mother that wanted us to befriend each other so we could be a happy fucking Mafia family.
“SISTER!” Victoria squealed as she jolted up from the couch. She ran towards me with her outstretched arms.
As she got close, I side stepped her and punched her right in the nose. She screamed as she fell to the floor with flailing arms.
“What the fuck, Allegra?!” Victoria yelled as she held her bleeding nose with tears streaming down her face.
“Oh my, is that you, Victoria?” I slurred as I covered my mouth dramatically, pretending to be surprised.
“I thought you were an intruder. I couldn’t even tell it was you with all that plastic on your face.” I said as I cupped my face and stared at her.
“I just got my nose done and now you fucking broke it! DADDY! Do something!” She cried as she stared at me angrily.
Both my father and Blake sat up from the couch in concern and looked at each other with a confused expression. Alice and I couldn’t hold back out laughter as we watched them trying to figure out which “daddy” she was referring to.
“You’re fucking kidding, right?” My father said seriously as he stared down at the wide-eyed Blake. My father kept his gaze locked on him as he quickly walked towards me.
“Come on, Allegra, she didn’t deserve that.” Blake said, getting in my face in an attempt to intimidate me.
Finally, I get to use these spiky shoes.
I took a step back before I swung my leg forward and rotated my hips, roundhouse kicking him so hard in the face he fell onto the glass coffee table and shattered it.
“I may be drunk as fuck right now, but I’m not just gonna let some spineless bitch get in my face.” I laughed, looking down at him while he yelled out in pain.
“Yeah!” Alice said loudly as she threw her hands in the air beside me.
“Alice, you’re supposed to be family, fucking control this psychopath!” Blake yelled out, attempting to stand. Shards of glass penetrated his skin, making small drops of blood begin to drip from his arm, shoulder, and leg.
“I should have killed you a year ago after the shit you pulled. You’re no family of mine.” She sneered.
“Cause you know why?” Alice said seriously, her eyes narrowed.
She took a step closer to Blake, glass crunching underneath her sneakers as she hovered over him.
“I don’t…” She said softly, inching closer.
“Fuck with…” She got even closer; her voice was almost a whisper.
“YOU!” She screamed, getting in the face of a very confused Blake.
“YOU LITTLE STUPID ASS BITCH, I AIN’T FUCKIN’ WITH YOU!” She yelled, pushing a piece of glass into his arm as she sang Big Sean’s song. Blake let out a girlish, high-pitched scream as she pushed an existing piece of glass further into his skin.
“YOU LITTLE, YOU LITTLE DUMB ASS BITCH, I AIN’T FUCKIN WITH YOU!” She sang as she walked away from the groaning man on the floor.
“Xavier, fucking do something!” My mother yelled angrily as she smacked my father’s chest.
“Alright, children, that’s enough.” My father said sternly as he raised his hand.
“Breakfast will be served. I’ll send a doctor over for you two.” He motioned to Blake and Victoria.
“And you two, get your drunk asses to the table.” He said, biting his lip to hold back his smile.
My mother face-palmed herself as she let out a loud sigh, cursing under her breath while she shook her head. While her back was turned, I glanced at my dad.
He pointed to a still screaming Blake before giving me and Alice a thumbs up with a wink.
Best. Dad. Ever.

ALLEGRA GREY POV
Every day it was the same routine: wake up to Alice barging into my room with liquor, have an awkward and silent brunch with my family, go out on a few jobs with Alice, then come home and torture some prisoners.
You know, the usual.
My sister and her fuckboy had finally taken the hint and had been avoiding us since their homecoming. I’d never been a forgiving person, and part of me felt like I’d never be able to let go of what they did to me. But for now, they’d been avoiding me, and I honestly couldn’t have been happier about it.
We’d been finding Russian assassins everywhere. Some would be attempting to get into our warehouses, others would be at the docks waiting for us to pick up a shipment, we even found another sneaking around our gate the other night. We managed to get some information from all of them, except they all said the same thing:
The end is near for you, Greys.
And that was always their last words.
Whatever Moskov was planning, he was doing a shitty job at it. For every Russian we found, we skinned them and sent their branded tattoo directly to him. The more brands we sent to him, the more men he sent after us. It all felt like a redundant, murderous cycle.
But today would not be the usual routine. Today was the day that we were anticipating and planning for: it was the day of the annual ball. Not only would we be trying to network and form alliances with other families, but we would also see Vladimir Moskov in person. Because of the ball’s useless traditions, no weapons or security details were allowed within the event. We spent the last week preparing contingency plans just in case Moskov tried anything at the venue. Part of me wished he would try to kill us there; it would give me an excuse to finally slit that fucker’s throat.
I settled on a simple off shoulder black dress. The high slit parted on my upper thigh, revealing my left leg with every step. The chiffon fabric hugged my waist and hips before falling loosely down my legs. The material draped loosely down my arms, stopping at my elbow. I threw on a simple gold necklace and some dainty earrings before I ran a hand through my wavy hair.
“Are you ready yet?” Alice called out from my bedroom.
“Let’s get this shit over with.” I said with a bored tone as I walked out of my bathroom.
One thing I loved about Alice was that she could switch between goofy and serious in the blink of an eye. It was nice to have a reprieve from the daily stressors that came along with this life, even if it was just momentary laughter.
We walked to the entrance of the mansion and entered our bulletproof limo. My parents, sister, and her fuckboy were already in the car waiting for us. My sister was dressed in a hot pink mini dress with matching heels. Sequins covered every inch of the dress, reflecting the illumination from the street lights.
My mother wore an elegant sleeveless gown. The satin fabric hugged her curves and the mermaid silhouette fanned out towards the bottom of the dress. Around her neck was the diamond necklace my father gave her while they were dating, she never took it off. My mother looked equally elegant and dangerous, a perfect combination for the monarch of the American Mafia.
Usually, Fernando planned these events all around the globe. Last year, it was in Turkey, the year before that was the Maldives. Thankfully, this year the venue was in our own backyard. We drove in silence as my father, Alice, my mother and I focused on our tasks for the night while Victoria and the fuckboy made small talk.
After about an hour’s drive, we pulled up to an extravagant venue. Large white pillars lined the outside of the building and a red carpet was laid out for us to walk on. A crowd of paparazzi were surrounding the carpet, being held back by intimidating looking security guards and a flimsy looking gate.
Most Mafia leaders, including ourselves, were involved in some legal businesses as a cover up for our wealth. So to the world, my father owned Grey International, the largest luxury resort chain in the world.
I took a deep breath and stepped out of the limo. Flashes immediately blinded my vision as I raised a hand to my face and quickly walked down the carpet to the entrance. My father and mother did the same, occasionally smiling at cameras. Alice was practically running towards the entrance with her gaze locked onto the ground.
My sister was a different story. She loved the attention from the paparazzi and would always be the last one on the red carpet. Usually, everything she did annoyed me, but I was somewhat grateful that she took the attention away from us.
We walked into the building, leaving Blake and Victoria behind to handle the media while we checked in with security. They patted us down, and ran us through a metal detector.
After we were cleared by security, we entered the beautifully decorated ballroom. Large round tables were adorned with lavish white tablecloths that nearly touched the floor. In the center of the table, there were intricately carved marble vases, and inside of them were a variety of red flowers. There was a separate space for an all-white dance floor, and couples were gracefully dancing together as servers walked amongst the mingling guests with drinks and appetizers.
“Ah! The Greys. Such a pleasure to see you all again!” Fernando spoke loudly as he threw his hands in the air. He hugged my father before he kissed mine and my mother’s hands.
Fernando Garcia was the leader of the Mexican Mafia. He was a very flamboyant man who was always dressed impeccably well, never a hair out of place. He was about 6’1, with very tan skin, and a neatly trimmed beard. His Spanish accent was thick, but his English was perfect. But behind his well put together appearance was a man who wouldn’t hesitate to murder someone in cold blood. Fernando was known to be ruthless, but that’s what you’d expect from the man who controlled most of the cartels.
“Allegra, looking as beautiful as ever.” He said with a large smile.
“Thank you, Fernando, for having us. You seem to outdo yourself every year.” I said as I motioned to the ballroom.
“Why thank you, my dear.” He laughed. “We are doing things a bit differently this year. We decided to actually do some good for the community, and hold an auction for the Children’s Cancer Research of America. You’ll partake in it, won’t you, Allegra?” He raises an eyebrow.
“That’s very generous of you, Fernando. I’d love to participate.” I agreed with a smile. Spending money wasn’t an issue. Every year we donated millions to causes around the world. These events often had donations for charities in an effort to lower the suspicion of the public.
“Lovely! We’ll need you by the stage in about five minutes.” He said quickly before he kissed my hand once more.
“Fernando, if you have a moment tonight, I’d love to have a chat with you.” My father said calmly.
“Absolutely, my friend! I’ll meet up with you later this evening once everyone settles in.” He said as he grabbed my father’s shoulders and smiled.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some other guests that need my attention.” He smiled as he motioned to the crowd of people that filled the venue.
“Allegra, you might want to make your way to the stage. They’ll be needing your assistance soon. Look for Andrea, she’ll direct you.” He said as he pointed to an extravagant stage with dozens of spotlights shining down upon it.
“Absolutely, Fernando.” I said as I nodded before I made my way through the dance floor towards the stage.
I found a crowd of attractive women near the stage surrounding an older lady who I assumed was Andrea. I made my way through the women and stood next to her. I watched as she frantically directed the women, telling them where to stand and collecting their information. I coughed impatiently in an attempt to get her attention.
“Andrea?” I asked politely, raising my eyebrow.
“Ah, yes, my dear. You must be Allegra. Fernando has told me about you. You’ll do wonders for this auction. Please, get in line, it’s about to start.” She said quickly as she pointed to the end of a long line of women forming on the side of the stage.
“And what exactly is up for auction?” I asked curiously as I tilted my head.
“Why, you are, my dear!” She said with a wide smile.
The fuck?!

“Hi, y’all! My name is Cindy LuAnne. I’m from Texas, I love long walks on the beach, I have my degree in Art Restoration, and my ideal date would be a romantic night just talking under the stars.” The brunette spoke into the microphone. She had her hands propped up on her hips as she stood in the center of the stage, smiling at the gangsters who watched from the dance floor.
“There you have it, boys and girls! Miss Cindy LuAnne. The starting bid is $1,500!” Andrea spoke enthusiastically from a black podium on the right side of the stage.
“$2,000!” A man spoke out.
“$2,500!” Another yelled as he raised his glass of champagne.
“Aw, come on, you could do better than that!” Andrea called out as she pointed to Cindy, who smiled wider as she tilted her head to the side.
“$4,000!” A woman yelled out as she raised her hand.
$5,000!“ The first man said as he began to raise his voice.
“Wow! $5,000! The highest bid of the night! Going once… going twice… and sold! To that lucky gentleman in the blue suit.” Andrea said cheerfully as she pointed to the bidder.
The dance floor politely applauded Cindy as she strutted off stage left. I’d been watching this shit show of an auction for the past thirty minutes. Women would go up and try to sell themselves to a bunch of horny mafia members in hopes that they would get the honor of being the highest bid of the night. And even worse, these girls were treating it like it was a privilege to be picked to be sold away.
The only thing that was required from us was a date with the highest bidder. We got to choose the location, the duration, and any other minuscule details. I scoffed as I looked at the crowd of curious men. I couldn’t believe I was going to be wasting my night going on some useless date while a madman was threatening to kill my family.
“Alright, you’re up. Remember, state your name, where you’re from, something interesting about you, and your ideal date.” Andrea whispered as she quickly walked over to me and grabbed my arm.
I shot her a deadly glare, making her immediately release her grip on my forearm as her eyes widened.
“After you.” She said nervously as she motioned to the stairs leading up to the stage. I took a deep breath as I contemplated just turning around and leaving the entire event. I didn’t do well being told what to do. I did even worse being forced to do something I didn’t want to.
But this was a favor to Fernando, a favor that would hopefully get me and my family on his good side for once. We needed this alliance, and I needed to do anything I could to make sure we walked out of this ball with someone backing us against Moskov.
I let out an annoyed sigh before I gracefully walked up the steps with Andrea closely behind. As I walked onto the stage, I was met with booming applause from the crowd and lights so bright that I could hardly see. I couldn’t make out anything except for shadowy figures below me, and each face in the crowd blurred together.
“Last, but certainly not least, we have the one and only Miss Allegra Grey! Thank you for participating in the auction for cancer research.” Andrea said into her microphone. I stood in the center of the stage as whispers erupted from the dance floor.
“Anything for the beloved children.” I spoke with a hint of sarcasm. I took a deep breath as I tried to hide the annoyance lacing my features.
“Uh… Alrighty then! Tell us a bit about yourself.” Andrea said in a chipper voice as she looked at me.
“My name is Allegra Grey… where I was born is none of your fucking business. What I like to do is none of your fucking business. What’s interesting about me is none of your fucking business. And my ideal date would be cutting off his dick, and shoving it so far up his ass that it comes out of his mouth.” I said with a huge fake smile.
The crowd fell deathly silent below me as I smirked in amusement. I could have sworn that I heard someone spit out their drink in shock. I bit my lip to hold back the laugh that was brewing inside of me.
“$5,000!”
“10,000!”
“$11,000!”
“$13,000!”
You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.
“$ 25,000 .” A thick Russian accent called out, making my heart drop.
This can’t be fucking happening right now.
“Wow! $25,000 from Mr. Vladimir Moskov! Going once… going twice.” Andrea said as she leaned forward onto her podium.
Jesus Christ, just kill me now.
“$50,000.” A deep voice called out from the back of the room. I let out a small sigh as my shoulders slightly relaxed. I was relieved that someone outbid Moskov, but I didn’t recognize the new bidder’s voice.
“$60,000.” Moskov called out.
“$100,000.” The cool voice spoke out angrily, making Andrea gasp loudly.
Great. I’m caught in the middle of two men’s ego contest.
“Oh my, we’re in the six figures now, folks!” Andrea said as she fanned herself with her hand.
$150,000.“ Moskov called out again.
“$200,000.” The cool voice yelled.
“$300,000.” Moskov hissed. I could tell her was starting to become angry.
“$500 fucking thousand.” The deep voice yelled sharply.
Gasps were heard throughout the ball room, along with whispers amongst the guests.
“O-oh my word! $500,000! A new auction record! Going once… going twice…” Andrea said before she paused, holding up her hand in anticipation.
“…and sold!” Andrea announced energetically as she threw her hands up in the air.
Thank god it wasn’t Moskov. I thought to myself as I exhaled deeply.
“Since that was our highest bid in the auction, please make your way to the center of the floor for the first dance of the evening.” Andrea said as she looked at me before motioning to the dance floor below us.
“And thank you, Ace De Luca, for your generous donation!” Andrea exclaimed into the microphone before she began clapping her hands together.
The ballroom erupted in applause as the lights dimmed and my attention fell immediately on a smirking Ace De Luca. He was leaning against the back wall with his eyes fixed on me. His three-piece black suit was expensive and pristine. His black hair was perfectly done, not a single hair out of place. Ace’s muscular arms were crossed, and his leg was propped up on the wall behind him.
His lips started to slowly morph into a smirk as he looked me up and down. I scowled as he winked at me and motioned with his finger for me to come to him.

My eyes were locked onto Ace’s grey irises as I made my way towards the dance floor. His glare was deadly, but there was something within his eyes that I couldn’t pinpoint. The space slowly started to close between us as the music began to play. The band chose Sway by Michael Bublé, one of my favorites.
As we inched closer to each other, Ace dipped his head so his lips grazed my ear.
“Try not to step on my feet, darling.” He whispered as he turned around to take his spot on the dance floor.
He had no idea that all those years of ballroom dance were finally going to pay off. Might as well toy with him a bit.
Before he could take another step, I curled my arm around his waist, moving it teasingly slow. I glided my hand from the side of this chest to the top of his defined abs. He tensed, flexing his muscles as he took a deep breath.
Damn, this man is fit.
“Two can play this game, Miss Grey.” He said softly as his hand went over my wrist. He slowly slid his hand until our fingers were interlocked as we swayed to the music. My hand traveled up to his back, feeling his dense muscles underneath his suit. I stepped to the side and our eyes met once more.
“Half a million just for a dance and a date? Getting desperate now, Mr. De Luca?” I smirked.
He gracefully placed his other hand in mine and twirled me so we were chest to chest. His nose trailed up my jaw, making a shiver run down my spine as he smirked mischievously. One hand gripped my waist while the other slid down to my hips. I leaned into his hands, forcing him to follow as we slowly leaned to the side. His hands began sliding down my curves, feeling every inch of my waist.
“Don’t let it go to your head.” He said under his breath. I twirled before he caught my waist in one hand while the other achingly trailed down my back. I grabbed the back of his neck while my other hand rested on his muscular bicep.
“Why did you do this?” I asked in a serious tone as I looked up at him. Our noses were practically touching as we continued to glide across the floor, displaying intricate moves and spins.
We took another step and stopped. His arm grazed underneath my breasts and moved to the side, caressing under my arm until he reached my wrist.
“I couldn’t let Moskov get you.” He whispered seductively in my ear.
“Oh? And why is that?” I asked under my breath while my nose trailed up his neck to his jawline. He inhaled sharply while I smirked victoriously. I loved having control.
We continued dancing around the ballroom, our faces centimeters apart from one another. His minty breath and cologne invaded my senses as I twirled gracefully across the floor.
“I couldn’t let him take away the kill I’ve been craving for eight years, now can I?” He said as a devious smile stretched across his face.
“You sure know how to flatter a woman.” I said sarcastically while raising an eyebrow.
“Besides, when Moskov takes his last breath, it will be by my hand.” He said coldly as his eyes narrowed.
“Not happening. I’ll be the one to end his life.” I said sternly.
I could tell that this took him by surprise. He raised an eyebrow and looked down at me with curiosity before pulling me in and pressing our chests together.
He dipped me down while he trailed his free hand to the outside of my thigh. He felt the knives I had hidden underneath my dress before he let out a low chuckle.
“You’re a very naughty girl, aren’t you, Miss Grey.” He smirked as his hands traveled from my blades up to my waist.
I felt my panties drench in wetness, and I mentally cursed myself for my body’s betrayal.
As he began to raise my body up, I slowly trailed my hands up his thighs. His breathing hitched as my fingers grazed over the gun he had concealed in his dress pants.
“I’m not the only naughty one, I see.” I said before I looked up at him with a smirk.
Never in a million years would I have thought that my rival, my enemy, could ever be this gentle. For years our sole mission was to murder each other. I was always so hell bent on putting a bullet through his temple that I never realized how… handsome he was.
His jawline was so sharp I wouldn’t be surprised if it could cut glass. His piercing grey eyes seemed like they were always dancing with amusement. His hands were calloused, yet his touch was gentle and delicate. Intricate and detailed tattoos adorned nearly every inch of his body. His hair was as dark as the night, only adding to his dark and intimidating features.
But I pushed away these thoughts as soon as they appeared. This was just a game. A game that we’d been playing for far too long. I was raised to kill him and exterminate all and every De Luca. He was the enemy. I couldn’t let his looks distract me from the fact that he wouldn’t hesitate to end my life.
“Such a shame I’ll have to kill such a pretty face.” I said as I brought my hand up to his cheek. Our faces were so close his nose caressed mine.
“The feeling is mutual, darling.” He smirked as the music began to die down.
He dipped me slowly as the band hit their final notes, his grey eyes locked onto mine before he dipped his head and brought his lips to my ear.
“Tomorrow. 8:00 at Le Coeur Solitaire.” He whispered in my ear before he playfully bit my earlobe, forcing me to stifle a moan that threatened to escape my lips.
He pulled me upright as we both stared into each other’s eyes. Ace held me within his arms for a moment before he gave me his signature smirk before slowly dropping his arms. His heat was immediately replaced by coldness as we both turned and walked away from each other.
Applause erupted in the ballroom. Most likely not from the dance itself but the fact that we had enough self-control to not attack each other. I looked around the room until I spotted Alice and I made my way over to her.
“Well… that was steamy.” She said in disbelief with her eyebrow raised.
“A brief truce. Next time, he won’t be as lucky.” I said seriously as I grabbed a glass of champagne from a passing waiter. I drank it all in one gulp before I placed it back on the tray.
