My head started spinning like shit. I sat down on the soft mattress of the bed. I didn’t even know who’s room this was. The only thing that I can remember is that I saw my jerk of an ex-boyfriend and I needed to hide from him.
I’ve been in Kenzo’s house for a couple of times already but because I’m kinda drunk right now, I actually think I’m lost. Kanina pa ako sumusubok na pumasok sa mga guestroom niya ngunit puro mga naka-lock na iyon.
I tightly closed my eyes. But once again, when I heard a door inside the room opened, I feel a new wave of dizziness shot through me. A guy stopped mid-stride when he saw me on the bed. He’s obviously fresh from the shower with his wet hair and a towel on his hands. He was wearing a white shirt and gray comfortable joggers.
I saw his lips moved to ask me something that I didn’t really understand. I watched him walk closer to my direction and lean down to my level. I gasped when I inahaled his scent. And looking at him this close, I noticed that he looks a bit familiar.
His brows furrowed when my lips lifted up. A set of black lashes shadowed his deep-set eyes. He was also obviously drunk. His eyes can’t focus that long just like mine. Blurry minutes passed by until I can almost feel my skin crawled at the thought of his touch.
“Let’s have a small talk…” that came out dry from my throat. His Adams apple moved uncontrollably.
“Sure,” he rasped, and glanced down on my lips.
Then we talked, but I guess that wasn’t enough. Leaning over, I kissed him softly. I was amazed that we immediately found our rhythm and I felt like we’ve been doing this forever, even though it was merely minutes since I saw him. I wrapped my arms around him, wanting to feel his warm skin. The alcohol from his mouth made a bitter-sweet after taste on mine. His hands trailed on my hips and pulled me into his lap.
“I thought we’re gonna talk?” He breathes against my neck.
Holy fuck, that feels good.
“Aren’t our body now?” I whispered and nibbled his earlobe.
He grabbed my neck down and tilted his head to kiss me better. What was meant to be a soft kiss became so much more as he leaned back into the head board. His left hand shifted just under my left boob and his right on my cheeks. His tongue explored the recesses of my mouth. It felt so good I couldn’t help but moan.

Growing up, I always see myself as an oncologist. A person who helps people cope up and do better in life. I already set that goal in my mind for a long time ago. Though, I know that life is not that easy. Sometimes things will not go according to your plan and what you are expecting. And I don’t know how or what will I do if I fail. I can’t accept that kind of defeat. I saw people living the opposite of their dreams, not being able to graduate, and failing their exams. And I fear to experience the same. Because I can’t fail. This is my dream. I invested a lot in this dream. And I don’t want to let this go.

Then, why did you chose that course in the first place?
I chose it because unlike you, I don’t have that overpowering feeling or passion to be someone while growing up. I don’t have a dream that stays. It always changes every time. Like when I was in elementary, I dreamt of being a chef, then I wanted to be a doctor in my junior and an engineer in my senior. I was pressured after my High School graduation because I didn’t have that kind of vision like everyone else. I was yawning when I caught a glance of the clock on my side table. It was already 12 am. I mumbled a curse. I need to get some sleep.
Inayos ko ang mga markers at book marks ko at ipinatong sa side table. Ganoon din ang ginawa ko sa mga libro at ilang notebook ko na nakakalat sa buong kama. Nag-set din ako ng alarm sa phone ko para maaga pa din akong magising bukas kahit late na akong matutulog.
I was about to turn it to sleep when a chat head popped out. My brows furrowed when I learned that it was Kyedae. For a second, I was wondering if why she’s chatting me at midnight. But I also remember that she and her friends love the night life and this is probably nothing to them. Damn, alcoholics.

I chuckle as I read Janine and Ashley’s replies. I was just about to type another one when I heard my doorbell rang. Natigil ang paghimas ko sa likod ni Neeko nang tumayo siya at mabilis na lumkad papunta sa harap ng pintuan.
“Hi!” Nakangising salubong sa akin ni Archibald nang buksan ko ang pinto.
“Hi…” sagot ko at niluwagan pagkakabukas nito.
Bumaba ang tingin namin parehas kay Neeko na nag-iikot sa paanan niya at malambing na kinikiskis ang pisngi sa pantalon ni Archibald. She looks like she really missed her Dad.
“Pasok ka,“ yaya ko at humakbang paatras.
Yumuko muna si Archi upang buhatin si Neeko at pinaulanan ng halik ang ulo nito bago tuluyang pumasok.
“Have you been a good girl to mum?” I heard him whispered to Neeko as they passed by. My brows instantly raised but didn’t bother to say anything.
“Nag-dinner ka na?” tanong ko matapos isarado ang pinto.
“Hindi pa. Pero kumain kami kanina ng pizza at coke,” sagot niya at naupo sa sofa. “Ikaw?”
I watch him look around my place. Mabuti na lang at naisip kong maglinis ng apartment kanina kahit kaunti.
“Hindi pa din.” I shook my head. Tumalon si Neeko mula sa hita niya at sinimulang hamagin ang laruan niyang squishy. “Gusto mo dito na lang kumain?”
He raised a brow and stare at me with judgement. “You can cook?”
I gasped and walked closer to him. Hinampas ko agad ang balikat niya. “Of course, I can!”
I rummage through my refrigerator for ingredients for any dish ngunit kung hindi wala ay expired na ang nandoon.
“You have a nice place,” I heard Archi’s voice from my back.
Iniwan ko sila ni Neeko sa living room kanina upang tingnan kung anong puwede kong lutuin. Siguro ay nainip na ito kaya naisip na sumunod sa akin sa kusina.
“Thanks,” I responded as I started looking at my upper cabinets for any ingredients.
I hissed at what I am doing. Why did I invited him to eat here again? Ang lakas lang ng loob kong magyaya tapos hindi naman ako prepared.
“Any problem?” He asked. But his attention immediately shifted on his phone when it started creating noise repeatedly, a cue that notifications keeps on popping on his phone, specifically his messenger.
I heard him laughed on something. Nangunot ang noo ko nang mapansin na patuloy pa rin ang pagpasok ng notifications niya at parang hindi natatapos.
“Daming ka-chat ah.” Hindi ko napigilan ang sarili kong pansinin. I bit my lower lip.
“Oh, this is our family GC. My sister is boasting about her successful operation and our Kuya is picking up on her,” kaswal na sagot ni Archi at tila natatawa pa mula sa pagbabasa ng mensahe. “It’s her first time doing an open heart operation and she succeeded.”
“Oh…” My lips parted. “That’s great. You must be proud of her.”
Geez, I’m so embarrassing. Mabuti na lang at hindi niya binigyang pansin ang tono ko.
“We all are.” There’s an obvious admiration on his eyes. I felt a pinch on my chest.
I cleared my throat. “Ilan kayong magkakapatid? Lahat ba kayo mag-do-doctor?”
“Ah, yes. My parents are also doctors…” he trailed while typing his reply. “Tatlo kaming magkakapatid. And I’m the youngest.”
“We’re the opposite. I’m the oldest.”
“Really? Must be tough.” He returned his phone on his pocket at binuhos ang buong atensyon sa akin. “Kayo? Ilan kayo?”
“Well, by blood, we’re three. I have two half-brothers.” I tilted my head and face him completely. “One from my father, and one from my mother. My parents separated when I was 4.”
His mouth opened to say something but chose not to when he noticed that my shoulders dropped. He made an understanding nod.
“So, anong ulam natin?” he randomly asked. He walked closer and reach out to me for comfort. A slow smile formed my lips.
“Great conversation changer. I suddenly remembered that I am near starving.” I let out a shaky laugh. “The bad news is that I don’t have any ingredients left to cook for anything proper.”
“I guess we need a quick run to a grocery store.” He shrugged as he squeezed my shoulders.
I leaned more into his chest. He smells like woods and a hint of musk. He’s felt so warm.
“Just thank God because there’s grocery near the area,” ngisi ko at umayos na sa pagkakatayo.
“That’s good news.” He smiles.

My hands are sweating as I walk through the park. Dito namin napagkasunduan na magkita ni Harvey upang mag-usap. I don’t know what to expect from this. I don’t know if this will end up in a positive note or if this will make us hate each other more.
Ang alam ko lang sa ngayon ay kailangan na naming magkalinawan na dalawa at pag-usapan ang mga bagay na dapat pag-usapan for us to finally move forward from the past. Gusto kong personal at opisyal naming lagyan ng tuldok ang naging relasyon naming dalawa.
“I’m sorry medyo late ako,” sbai ko nang mahanap siya.
“No, it’s okay. Maaga lang talaga ako coz I’m really excited to see you again.” May ngiti sa labi niya ng salubungin niya ang mga mata ko. Tumayo siya upang yakapin ako kaya kahit medyo naiilang ay sinubukan kong suklian iyon.
“So, how are you? You’ve been ignoring me for the last few months. You even blocked me in all of my social media accounts.” He chuckled as we detach from the hug.
Nang magkasalubong ang mga mata namin, doon ko lang nakumpirmang wala na akong nararamdaman sa kanya. As I scan his familiar face, I can’t feel anything tho it left a bitter taste.
My lips quivered. “I’ve been good. I’m not sorry about blocking you tho, you deserved it.”
“Seriously, babe? That’s a bit childish.” He smirked as he sat down. On the other hand, I remain standing in front of him He rested his arms at the backrest of the bench. “It’s a good thing you’ve finally decided na magkita tayo. Masyado nang naging matagal ang pagtatampo mo this time.”
“Can you stop calling me babe from now on?” I gulped. Then with conviction, I added, “We’re never going back together.”
“What?” His eyebrows raised.
“I only agreed to meet you to officially end things between us. I don’t want us to get back together.”
“What—No!” he shook his head. Agresibong tumayo siya kaya’t napaatras ako ng isang beses. There was an odd twinge of disappoinment on his face. “Can you please fucking stop this? Ano pa bang gusto mo para matigil na’to? I gave you the fucking time that you wanted.”
“It’s not the fucking time I wanted! I want to be free from you! Ayuko na! You don’t even love me! We never loved each other, Harvey. You know that!”
“Breaking news, Kyedae, I fucking love you!” he exclaimed as his jaw clenched.
“You love me? What me, Harvey? What me!?” I asked, pointing at myself. “You never liked my friends! You hate how I dress! You fucking laughed when I said I don’t have plans for the future when you’re supposed to be understanding me!“ My voice broke miserably. Nakaramdam ako ng biglaang paninikit ng dibdib. ”You never understand me, Harvey, so how could you say you love me?“
“Is that the problem? Your friends? Because I fist-fight with those guys? I just fucking want to protect you! How could you be sure that they’re even your friends? For God knows what, they’re just waiting for the moment to take advantage of you!” His curt voice lashed at me as disbelief mirrored his eyes.
“Are you fucking hearing yourself!” Hindi makapaniwalang tinitigan ko siya. “How can you say those things!? They are my friends even before I met you! I will fucking trust them with my life more than you!” I pressed my fist to my lips when I felt my lungs constricting.
“So, what am I to you all this time? Bakit pa tayo nagkarelasyon kung hindi din pala natin kayang pagkatiwalaan ang isa’t isa?” pekeng tumawa siya. He raked his fingers through his hair.
“Why don’t you ask yourself that, Harvey? Bakit hindi mo tanungin ang sarili mo kung bakit hindi kita magawang pagkatiwalaan?” I said, words trembling from my lips.
“Oh, this is about the cheating issue, isn’t it?—”
“Don’t talk like it’s not true!” Numbness infused my body. “You cheated on me, Harvey. I caught you three fucking times! I saw you cheated on me with my own eyes!”
“And those three times you know I was drunk!”
“Don’t justify your action just because you’re drunk! If you really love me, you won’t let yourself get drunk to the point that you know you could do things like that!” I didn’t notice that my voice was raising. I felt my tears slowly find their way down my cheeks.
Malalim siyang napahugot ng hininga nang makita ang luha ko. He scrunched up his face.
“Okay, okay. Let’s calm down….” Bahagyang tinaas niya ang kamay na tila sumusuko. Sinubukan niyang lumapit sa akin ngunit muli akong umatras upang iwasan siya. “I admit. I was drunk. It’s my fault. I promise, I wouldn’t do it again, okay? Just give me one more chance and I’ll change.”
“Yeah, just like what you did in the past,” I answered him thickly. “I already gave you three chances to prove yourself, and you wasted it.” I painfully laughed as I remember all those time I pretended that everything was okay to me. “I was so stupid for forgiving you and giving you those chances. I should’ve known that you wouldn’t change. You made me question my worth even though I know I don’t deserve that. I will not fucking buy this bullshit this time.”
“But these feelings are not bullshit. I love you, Kyedae. I will change for you. I can change.” He continued on pursuading me but I’m just so done with it to listen. I’m emotionally and mentally tired.
“Harvey, you will never change.” I shook my head.
“This is just like our old problems. Magtatampo ka and then magkakaayos tayo. If the time I gave you wasn’t enough, then hahayaan ulit kitang magpahinga.”
“Believe on what you want to believe, but this is where we end.” I spoke calmly, with no lighting in my eyes, no smile of tenderness.
Curses fell from his mouth. I tightly closed my eyes and took a deep breath. My clamped lips imprisoned my sobs.
“Babalik ka din sa’kin,” he replied sharply before walking away. Naramdamang ko pa ang bahagyang pagbangga niya sa aking balikat.
When I opened my eyes, wala na siya. The only things left were the raw sores of an aching heart. Pagod na naupo ako sa bench at mapait na natawa sa sarili.
Tapos na…
Finally… makakahinga na ako ng maluwag.

Tahimik lang akong nakaupo sa bench. It was almost 6 PM. Pinanood kong magpahinga at umalis ang mga tao. I don’t know but… if feels very calming.
I looked up from staring at the ground when a paired of Nike shoes stopped in front of me.
“Hi,” Archi greeted as he sat beside me.
I smiled as our eyes met. His smile fell as he scan my whole face. Maybe he noticed my swollen eyes or the exhaustion on my face.
“What happened? Did you cry?” he muttered as he held my face.
“Dumating ka,” I almost whispered.
“Of course.” The corner of his lips lifted up. “You asked me to pick you up, so here I am.”
Silence enveloped us. Nagtitigan lang kaming dalawa at walang sumubok na magsalita. Kita ko sa mga mata niya ang kagustuhang magtanong ngunit pinipigilan niya ang kanyang sarili.
I couldn’t help but bit my lower lip when I realized that he wanted me to willingly open up to him about what happened today. Not because he wants me to or because I’m forced to, but because I’m comfortable enough to be honest with him.
I averted my gaze from him. Siguro oras na din para pag-usapan namin ang tungkol kay Harvey. Not that it matters to our current relationship, as we are friends, but because he deserves to know that part of me.
I took in a deep sigh before I started speaking…
“Three months ago, I got out of a toxic relationship…” I started. Nakita ko sa gilid ng mga mata ko ang paglingon niya sa akin ngunit nanatili akong nakatingin sa harapan. Nag-aagaw ang liwanag at dilim sa langit.
“We started dating when were freshman. Madalas kaming magkita noon sa mga social gatherings even before that. Lalo na at nasa fashion industry ang family niya at ang stepmom ko. Before I thought that was destiny, you know.” I bowed my head as I started playing with my hands. “Dahil madalas magtagpo ang landas namin noon, I thought we were meant to be together. Before, I thought that he was just protecting me when he forbids me to wear clothes that are too revealing, or doesn’t allow me to hangout with my guy friends alone. His parents and my family was also okay with our relationship. Walang tumutol, so I thought, wow, we’re so perfect.”
“So, imagine how my world collapsed when I caught him cheating.” I bitterly chuckled. Damn, that memory still hurts. “I forgive him the first time, because I thought he didn’t really mean it and that he was just drunk. He was just a sweet talker kaya for the second time, pinatawad ko ulit siya. Hindi ko alam kung ilang beses kong balak magpakatanga kasi for the third time, pinatawad ko na naman siya.” My gaze clouded with tears.
“I caught him cheating with my own eyes. Hindi isa kung hindi tatlong beses, and yet, I let him gaslighted me. Hinayaan ko siyang paniwalain ako na hindi niya yun sinasadya. Kung hindi pa siya kinompronta nina Domino at nakipag-away, baka hindi pa din ako nagigising sa katotohan. Baka hanggang ngayon kinukuwesyon ko pa din yung sarili ko na baka ako ang mali.” I turned my head and saw Archi intently looking at me. I couldn’t read his face, but I could see how the muscle in his jaw twitched.
“I was young and dumb, I was prone to do stupid things when it comes to love. But I didn’t know that I’ll come that far. I’m so fucking stupid.” I swallowed a sob that rose in my throat.
“You’re not stupid, Kyedae. You just gave your heart to the wrong person.” He muttered as he gather me into his arms, he held me snugly. “Anyone who’s in love will do the same. Because true love forgives, as much as it should be honest.”
A hot tear rolled down my eyes as I buried my face in his shoulder. I was astonished at the sense of fulfillment I felt. When I’m with him, everything feels okay.

“Ate!”
Napangiti ako nang salubungin ako nang mahigpit na yakap ni Rico. Binuhat ko siya at saglit na dumaing sa pagkabigla dahil hindi ko inaasahan ang bigat niya.
“I miss you so much, Ate Kye!” he squealed against my arms and shower my cheeks with kisses.
“I miss you too, Baby Rico! Big boy ka na talaga ah, bigat mo na.” Ngisi ko at pinanggigilan siya. I glanced at Dad when he opened his arms to me, as if he’s asking for a hug.
Ibinaba ko muna si Rico bago padambang yumakap kay Dad. “Miss you, Dad!”
“Miss you too, ’nak.” I felt him kissed the side of my forehead that made me giggle.
“Si Tita po?” tanong ko nang humiwalay sa yakap.
“Nasa venue ng show. You know she wants to be hands on and really involved about the fashion week.” He shrugged. “I know you’re tired from the long flight, so let’s go to the hotel para makapagpahinga ka.”
Humawak si Rico sa kamay ko habang kinuha naman ni Dad ang maleta ko. Nakangiti lang ako sa buong byahe at sinusubukang sabayan si Rico sa mga kuwento niya. It feels nice to know that my younger brother really missed me and excited to spend time with me even though we rarely see each other.
“Thank you po,” I said when we finally arrived at my hotel room.
We first took Rico to their room because he fell asleep on the trip because he probably ran out of energy from his animated stories.
“Bakit po?” My brows knitted when I noticed Dad staring at me. “May problema po ba?”
“Have I mentioned to you before that you look just like your Mom when she was your age?” His lips lifted up into a warm smile. “Can’t believe you’re already grown up. It seems like it’s just yesterday you’re still in my arms.”
“Dad, what is this drama about?” I chuckled tho I can’t feel my stomach churning.
“Nothing.” He shook his head. “I heard that you and the Oswald’s son broke up.”
Natigilan ako saglit sa biglaang pagbanggit ni Dad sa mga Oswald. Hindi din naman malabong makarating sa kanila ang hiwalayan namin ni Harvey lalo pa’t nasa iisang circle lang si Tita Clary at ang parents nito.
“Yeah. I broke up with him almost four months ago, but it only became official between us this week,” I shared as I bit my lower lip. “Hindi naman po ito makakaapekto sa trabaho ni Tita, di’ba?”
“What? No.” Nakahinga ako ng maluwag nang matawa si Papa like what I asked was the silliest question he heard. “I was just asking. Coz this Oswald’s son reached out to me, and asked me if I could do something to convince you to take him back. You know, he’s using his connections.” Dad made a face.
“And I was thinking, how did my daughter fell in love with this guy? Asking your ex-girlfriend’s father to convince his daughter to take you back? Man, this dude is effin childish af.”
I laughed hard at what Dad said. I also can’t believe that Harvey went that far just to convince me to be in a relationship with him again. Like he literally tried to use my father.
“Can I know why did you two broke up?” Dad softly asked. “Though I understand if you don’t want to tell me or you’re not comfortable. It’s okay.”
“He cheated on me, Dad.” A half-smile crossed my lips.
“Oh…” My Dad’s lips parted. Then a muscle in his jaw twitched. “You made the right decision, then.”
“Yeah, I think so too.” I chuckled lightly.
“Come here… ” Dad spread his arms. Lumakad ako palapit sa kanya upang yakapin siya. “I may not be always there for you, but I’m still your father, Kyedae. I love you as much as I love Rico. And if I had a choice, I would never let anything or anyone hurt you.”

I chuckled as I scrolled down through the comment section of Archi’s recent post on Instagram. The comments are not funny but it made my heart sing with delight for an unknown reason.
Sinulayapan ko si Archibal na nakatutok sa kanyang laptop sa paghahanap ng lugar na puwede naming puntahan bukas. Nasa hotel room niya kami ngayon at nakatambay sa veranda.
“What?” he asked as he glanced at my direction.
Hindi ko napansin na napatagal na pala ang pagkakatingin ko sa kanya. He looks really comfortable with his gray sweatshirt and sweat pants.
Pinatay ko ang cellphone ko at ibinaba sa coffee table. Humarap ako sa tanawin upang umiwas ng tingin sa kanya.
I moistened my dry lips. “It’s really weird, right?”
“Huh?” Dumbfounded, he asked as his eyes narrowed.
“It’s weird how we both become important to each other. Parang kahapon lang…” I started playing with my hands on my thighs. “… hindi pa natin kilala ang isa’t isa.”
“Yeah…” A chuckle escaped from his lips. “And our first meeting was really weird and unexpected.”
“We were just supposed to hook up that night, but look at where it brought us now….” Natawa din ako at napakagat sa ibabang labi. “You flew from the Philippines to celebrate your birthday with me in Paris.”
He nooded while I was speaking with a smile on his face, as if he was reliving the moments we spend together.
“Kung hindi ba ako nalasing ng gabing iyon, may magbabago kaya? Kung hindi ko ba sinabi ang mga sinabi ko noon, magiging interesado ka bang kilalanin ako?”
“I don’t know.” He shrugged his shoulders. “Kung hindi ka nga lasing, baka hindi mo ako pansinin. I was out of your league.”
“No, you’re not! Who are you kidding here?” I gasped at what he said. Bahagyang nanlaki pa ang mata ko sa gulat. “I was a mess back then. Do you really think gugustuhin mo talaga akong makilala noon?”
“Speaking of…” he trailed as his head tilted to the side. “Don’t you really remember what you said that night?”
“I swear, I don’t. I was really drunk then,” I said with a promise. “Ano bang sinabi ko sa’yo noong gabing iyon?”
“You said that I was the most attractive man you’ve ever seen,” he uttered in an unvarying tone.
My jaw dropped and turned my body to face him. A flash of humor crossed his face. Pabirong pinalo ko ang balikat niya at patagong napangisi dahil sa tigas ng muscle niya doon.
“You’re lying!“
“No, that’s what you said.”
“You are like Papa!”
“What the fuck?” he burst out of laughter. He threw his head back and let out a great peal of laughter.
“What? Tell me the truth. What did I say?” I said, trying to suppress my giggles.
He took in a deep sigh, like he was trying to control himself. Halos namumula na ang kanyang mukha mula sa pagtawa.
He cleared his throat “You asked me to fix you.”
“I asked you to fix… me?” I said shaking the head, voicing denial.
“Yeah, you did,” he confirmed while nodding his head.
I lowered my head and escaped his gaze. Ngayon ko lang napagtanto ang mga ginawa ko noon. How I was feeling broken inside but forcing myself to laugh in front of my friends. I was so broken that I even asked a stranger to fix me while we were both drunk.
Walang emosyong natawa ako sa sarili at napatingin kay Archibald. My confidence was falling apart when I met him. I haven’t had anything good to say about myself in recent months. I was doubting myself and I was thinking if i would be truly happy again.
“But why would that interest you? That was so pathetic of me,” I asked with a bittersweet smile on my lips.
Ibinaba niya ang laptop mula sa hita niya at tuluyang humarap na din sa akin. He shook his head and reached my cheek to meet eyes.
“Because I can’t fix what’s not broken. You’re not broken, Kyedae.” Bumaba ang kamay upang hanapin ang mga kamay ko. He squeezed my hand as his eyes kept staring at mine. “If anything, you are a strong woman who knows what she wants and would not lower her standards just to meet someone else’s.”
Tears shimmered in my eyes. Mahigpit na hinawakan ko ang kanang kamay niya habang ang kaliwa ay sinbukang punasan ang aking mga luha. Ramdam ko ang pagsikil ng dibdib ko nang sinubukan ko itong pigilan.
Looking at his dark soothing eyes, his generous mouth, his aquiline nose and his black hair gleamed in the lights framing a handsome square face. I realized that because of him, I slowly feel that the old me is coming back. The me who is confident, the me who loves herself and chooses herself over anything else.
Tumayo siya sa pagkakaupo at lumuhod sa harapan ko. Hinila ko siya papalapit sa’kin upang yakapin. I buried my face against the corded muscles of his chest. Napapikit ako sa magaang paghagod ng kamay niya sa likod ko.
“The general feeling of comfort I got around you…” I started as I let go of him. “This is special. Nothing ever felt the way it feels with you.”
“Ganoon din ako sa’yo, Kyedae.” Inipon niya ang kamay naming dalawa sa ibabaw ng hita ko.
Napatitig ako sa kamay naming dalawa at napaisip.
I bit my lower lip before meeting his eyes. “Do you know what I’m thinking right now?”
He nodded his head. “I think, I know what you’re thinking right now.”
“Really? You’re thinking what I’m thinking right now?” I felt my hands trembling against his.
“Yeah, I think I am.” A smile tugged at his lips.
I took a shaky breath as warmth spread through me. Halos marinig ko na Ang bawat tibok ng puso ko.
“I think I like you.”
There… I finally said it.
His eyes shone bright in the pale light of the moon. “I think I like you too.”
“Okay….” I trailed as my upper lips curled. “So, what are ‘we’ going to do about it?”
He licked his lips. “Nothing.”
“Wala? Bakit?” I asked with an uncertain tone.
“Let me rephrase that…” He moved closer. “Wala pa.”
“Because? Are you still not sure about your feelings?” I pressed my lips together in a slight grimace.
“I’m sure about mine. It’s just because I think you’re not yet ready.”
“Ready for what?” I raised my eyebrows and offered a questioning gaze.
He sucked in a quick breath.
“To be in a relationship right now.” His large hand took my face and held it gently. There was warmth in his voice. “Kyedae, I can wait for you until you’re ready. I want you to be completely whole again before I start making a move. I don’t want you to doubt yourself, even though I think that you’re perfect.” His thumbs softly moved against my cheeks. I bit my lips to control my sobs. “I want you to feel that you are loved before I start sharing that feeling with you.”
A cry of relief broke from my lips. Jesus Christ… don’t make me fall in love with you this early, Archi.

“Let’s have a small talk…” she dryly said. I gulped as I try focusing on her face.
“Sure,” I nodded my head.
Sinubukan niyang bumangon ngunit muli siyang bumagsak. I was about to help her when she slapped my hand away.
“Don’t touch me, let’s just talk, okay?” she slurred while pointing at me. “Hindi por que hot at pogi ka bibigay na ako sa’yo. I’m not marupok.”
My lips parted in amusement. Sandaling napailing ako bago muling magpokus sa kanya.
“Okay, okay.” Tinaas ko ang dalawang kamay ko na tila sumusuko. “So, what are we going to talk about?” saad ko at bumagsak paupo sa sahig.
Tumagilid naman siya ng higa upang humarap sa akin. The strap of her spaghetti strap top slipped off of her shoulder ngunit tila wala siyang pake doon.
“Tell me, honestly, maganda ba ako sa paningin mo? Could I pull you?”
Surprised, I laughed at her, not taking her seriously. I threw my head back when she looked at me dead in the eyes.
“Why? Bat ka tumatawa? Di ako maganda sa paningin mo?” her eyes squinted.
“No.” Umiling ako. “I laughed because your question is dumb. Obviously, you’re so beautiful. One of the most I’ve ever seen, if I’m being honest.”
A soft gasped escaped her. “You’re lying.”
“Yes, I am,” I laughed richly.
She pouted, as if offended.
“You!” her mouth quirked up in humor.
Our small talk started with her silly questions while I try to answer her as honest as possible. We’re clearly both drunk as we keep on changing our moods and blubber things and pretend that we understand each other. We’ll joke around, say mean things to each other and then laughed together at the end.
But as time went on, I didn’t notice that our conversation was getting deeper and deeper. Her silly questions became serious. Our laughter turned into calm smiles. Mahina na din ang ingay sa paligid, siguradong nakatulog na ang mga tao sa sobrang kalasingan habang nagsiuwian naman ang iba.
“Why do I get up of I’m going to die anyway. Why do we try do something if we know we’re going to die sooner or later. What’s this life even for? “
I tilted my head to have a better view of her. Nakapatong na ang braso ko sa kama habang nakasandal ang ulo ko sa aking kamay. Her mouth was tight and grim.
I bit my lower lip as her slim and wild beauty sinks into me. Alam ko nang maganda siya kanina pa ngunit iba pala kapag tinitigan mo na. Hindi ko alam kung unti-unti na akong nawawalan ng tama ng alak o mas lalo akong nalalasing sa kanya. Patago akong napangisi sa sarili.
How did we both find ourselves in this situation? We’re both strangers to each other. We don’t even know the names of one another, and yet we’re talking about things this deep?
“You know, instead of thinking stuff like that, why don’t you try looking at the other direction,” I started as I felt my racing heartbeat. “Bakit sa pangit ka lang nakatingin? Instead of thinking of not getting up cause we’re going to die sooner or later, which is true, why can’t you do things while you still can?”
“Huh?” she blinked.
“I mean, totoo, mamatay din tayo. Pero bakit hindi natin gamitin yung oras na mayroon tayo to do meaningful things and help the world for the better?” I shrugged. “And instead of waiting for the time you die, why don’t you try to make yourself better. Or kung wala ka ng gustong baguhi sa buhay mo, why don’t you find a way or be an instrument to help make others better? What may be a small gesture for you may be a big thing for others.”
The corner of her mouth lifted. “Why do you sound so good? You sound so mature. Bakit di ganyan yung ex ko?”
My expression softened. “Kasi di ako ang ex mo.”
“Alam ko…” Umingos siya. “You know how to listen too. Kung ano-ano na pinagsasabi ko pero nandito ka pa din.”
“You went into a messy break up, huh.” I wshispered to myself and then blew out my cheeks.
For someone to find comfort in a stranger, what you went through was no joke. Naalala ko tuloy bigla ang mga nauna niyang tanong. At first, I thought it was silly of her to ask me if she was beautiful. But now, I realize that maybe she was looking for assurance if she was enough and nothing’s wrong with her.
“Kung ikaw ba yung boyfriend ko, magche-cheat ka din ba sa’kin?” she silently asked.
“I would never cheat on you.” I gave a reassuring smile. “Dahil kapag pumasok ako sa relasyon, alam kong handa akong magmahal ng buo. Because I know that nobody deserves a half-hearted love, especially to be cheated on.”
Her hands reached for my face. Tila kinikilala ang aking mukha. She smile but didn’t speak, so I continued.
“If you’re doubting yourself, please don’t. You’re enough, you’re perfect just the way you are. Hindi mo kasalanan na hindi siya natutong makuntento sa love na binigay mo.”
She was broken enough to not recognize her own importance and beauty. She was broken enough to be teary-eyed to my simple words. I was just there, telling her things that she should already know.
My lips parted when her fingers trace the frame of my lips.
“Fix me, please. I want my old self back.” A warmth of her smile echoed on her voice. There’s a hint of hope on her face. “Gusto kong mahalin ulit yung sarili ko.” Tears welled within her eyes.
Umangat ako sa pagkakaupo sa sahig at mas lumapit sa kanya. I imprisoned her face with my hands to brush her tears away. Bumangon siya mula sa pagkakahiga kaya’t inalalayan ko siya. I wrapped my arms around her to comfort her and she leaned over me.
My breaths quickened as her lips brush against mine. Umatras ako upang tingnan siya. She stared at me with longing in her eyes.
“I’m sure. Let’s do it,” she answered even though I haven’t said anything yet.
