THE GOLDEN AGE

Enrique’s POV

That’s it. I’m officially over it. I can’t stand being in this country any God damn longer. I just got home from working a long shift at a crappy bar. I want nothing more than to lie down and have a break. Only I come home to my home in shambles. Everything is overturned and destroyed. My television is cracked, paintings smashed, and fine dining destroyed. Everything is ruined.

I have to get out of here.

I packed my bags immediately. I only took what was actually valuable, such as money, jewelry, and some memories. They wanted a better life for me. Well, sorry Mama and Papa, but Mexico won’t give me that life. They’ve been gone for years at this point.

I just hope this isn’t a decision I’ll live to regret.

As I was walking down the street, I saw a movie poster. ‘The Prince of Alamo’. I paused my movement and read the leading actor. Gene Howard. A white man. Playing a Hispanic man. Why couldn’t they use an actual Hispanic?

I could do that. I could go in front of a screen and act. When I was little, Mama would always say that I could act. I was able to go from crying to happiness in a second. It was a talent I was born with. And now it was my time to use it.

I went to the train station and bought a one-way ticket to the place I know where dreams come true.

Los Angeles, California.

And in the City of Angels, I plan on finding an acting job. And securing my legacy in history as a cinema pioneer.

Marshall’s POV

Hopping off the bus, I was thankful to be back on not only American soil, but the soil of the town I grew up in. The same town that raised me and transformed me into the army general I am today. Time in the war was rough. But here I was. Standing here ready to return to her.

My dear Casey.

My darling whom I left a few months ago while I went away. I entrusted her to look after the house. I didn’t have to worry about her being unloyal. We’ve been together for five years. Since junior year in high school.

And today I plan on marrying her.

I wanted to surprise her. I bought her favorite flowers. Pink magnolias. I had the ring of my mother in my pocket that I took with me to Europe. Everytime I felt down, I would look at the ring and be reminded of the beauty that was waiting for me.

Walking through town. I received nods and respectful bows from citizens who awed at my uniform. This uniform wasn’t just any uniform. It was a universal sign of respect.

I reached my beloved home. Casey doesn’t know that I’m returning home. I wanted to surprise her. I opened the door slowly and entered. I noticed that the house was a bit different. The furniture was changed to have a more colorful taste. But the thing that caught my attention was on the floor.

A man’s shoe.

I picked it up and inspected it. It wasn’t mine. The foot size was too small. I examined the floor closer and saw more articles of clothing scattering the floor. Socks, shirts, and undergarments.

What the hell?

I reached the door. The bedroom door. And I heard grunting. I braced myself. I think I already knew what was going on. What my Casey was doing. But I wanted to believe it was a lie and that my mind was just exaggerating. And then I opened the door.

There was my Casey, naked, underneath a random man.

“Casey?” I said, clutching the magnolias tighter. My heart was broken at the sight of Casey being pleased by another man. The two stopped their movements. Casey’s eyes widened as she looked towards my direction. Her face looked like she’d just been caught doing something horrible. Because she was.

“Marsh?” She said. The man on top of her turned his head and looked at me. He looked scared. He should be.

I approached the man and grabbed his arms and pinned him on the floor. I didn’t care if he was naked. I dragged the man by his arms and led him to the front door. I picked up some of his clothes along the way. Opening the door, I threw the man out and threw his clothes at him. Then I slammed the door shut.

I continued to face the door, refusing to turn around and see her. My breath was shaky. Movement behind be confirmed that Casey was standing there.

“Marsh? I’m so sorry. Please turn around.” Her voice was pinged with guilt. I didn’t want to look at her. She violated the trust that I had entrusted her with.

“Why?” Is all I said. I didn’t want her to come up with an excuse. I need the truth.

“I-I didn’t know you were coming so soon.” She said. I continued to face away from her.

“Why did you cheat on me?” I said in a more stubborn voice.

“I was getting lonely.” She said.

“So you fucked another man?!” I said loudly.

“I’m sorry, baby.” She said. She touched my arm, meaning she was behind me.

“DON’T CALL ME BABY!” I said, turning around swiftly and pulling my arm away from her. I stared at her face. She had regret. Good. She should feel regret. A tear rolled down my face. I wanted to break down but I couldn’t. She betrayed me so she doesn’t deserve to see me vulnerable.

“I’m so sorry.” Casey said while looking down.

Rather than say anything, I walked past her to the room. Not our room. It’s just a room now. I entered and began packing my clothes. I took as much as I could into two leather bags. I took my mother’s jewelry. Any valuable items I’d gifted Casey. And my important documents.

“W-Where are you going?” Casey asked, poking her head shyly into the room.

“Away.” Is all I said.

“Please. Marsh-”

“Don’t call me that!”

“Marshall. Please stay. We can work this out.” She pleaded.

I walked past her, stepping on the pink magnolias on my way out the room. I carried both bags on each arm and got closer to the front door. I stopped at the entrance and turned around to face her one last time.

“While I was away, I wanted nothing more than to come home and see you. Kiss you. Marry you!” I took out the large ring showing it to her. “Instead you decide to become a whore and sleep with another man!” Tears rolled down her face. But I no longer cared.

“By the way, I’ll be giving ownership of this house to my brother. I suggest you move out in a few days.” The look on her face was amazing. And with that, I turned around and left the house for good.

I called my mother and brother informing them about Casey’s sins. I also told my brother that I was giving the house over to him and if Casey is still there, to show no mercy and remove her.

“So, Marshall, where will you be going?” My mom asked while I used the payphone. I also began to question where I truly want to go. It’s a small town here. And South Dakota is only so large. But I couldn’t remain in this place. I had to leave far away.

I looked around and saw a movie poster for a new motion picture playing at the cinema. A young man was kissing a woman on the poster. I think I knew what I wanted to do.

“I’ll let you know soon, mother.” I said.

“Okay Marsh. I love you.” My mother’s sweet voice said.

“I love you too.” And I hung up. I reached the train station and went up to buy my ticket.

“And where would you like to head, sir?” The operator said. I had forgotten that I still had on my uniform. No matter that.

It was time for me to leave this town for good. Since I was young, I’ve always had dreams. But those dreams were pushed back by my inability to blossom and expand who I was. Coming back here to see that life will continue to move on without me made me see that it was time I took control. The time is now and there will never be another opportunity.

It was time for me to achieve a dream that laid dormant in the back of my head.

“One ticket to Los Angeles.”

1. WHERE STARS SHINE

WHERE STARS SHINE

Enrique

I’ve lived in Tinseltown for about a few weeks at this point. I’ve yet to hear about any casting calls. And majority of those casting calls that I have seen require whites or are given to already shining stars.

I’ve been working at a diner for a while. Business is quick, seeing as how close this diner was located to the iconic Metro-Goldwyn Mayer studio. So it was constantly busy.

Some moments here and there were very uncomfortable. Some women, and men, would touch me in places that I didn’t enjoy. Some would whisper that I had the body of a Greek god. And some would say that I could become an ecdysiast as they say. And while I was flattered, it’s not what I wanted.

I want to be a star.

It was an ordinary day when I began to walk home after my shift. Along the way, I walked through Wilshire Boulevard. In the distance, I witnessed showlights illuminating the night sky as the sunset dimmed the day. It was time for the stars to shine.

I stopped when a paper on the floor interrupted my steps. It was a flier which fell off from God knows where. Its bright red color intrigued me. I bent down and picked it up.

‘LOOKING FOR ACTORS: Must be foreign or exotic looking.’

I mentally palmed at the request for exotic people. In Hollywood terms, exotic means anyone who is of color. Hispanic, black, Asian, Arabic. All qualify under the term “exotic”.

Hey! I fit the criteria. This is it. This is the sign for me. I can finally get the shot that I was meant to take. I checked the date for the casting call. It was for tomorrow in the morning. I stuffed the paper in my pocket and ran home to sleep.

The morning sun radiated through my foggy window. My hands covered my eyes as I shielded the rays. I groaned because my back ached. I turned sideways and saw a ball of crumpled up paper on the desk. My brain woke up and I leaned over and picked up the paper and unwrapped it. I read the time.

8:00 am.

I checked the time and it was 7:30. Crap! I need to dress now. I got up and dressed myself, careful to choose an outfit that will look good enough. I gel my hair and shave to look… sexy.

I ran out the house and got in my horrible car I bought off a sketchy guy a few weeks ago. The car was fine. But I’ll just pretend that I didn’t see a stain of blood in the back seat. The reason I don’t take my car to work is because I want to save on gas and thus I walk to work.

Avoiding Wilshire Boulevard. took other smaller streets and made my way to the Metro-Goldwyn Mayer studio. Entering the guest parking lot, I looked around and was awed at the people working here. I saw some iconic actors like William Powel and Alan Ladd walking around with their posse. Some had scripts in their hands and others relaxed in the hot California sun.

I exited the car and followed the signs to the casting center. I entered the room where all the auditioners were. My jaw dropped at the men who were in the room.

They were all white with tans.

I was the only authentically brown person here. And my skin actually looked natural. All these guys looked more orange than brown.

I sat in my seat quietly while I prepared for what I was to do. I calmed myself and imagined myself performing for my Mama. My nerves calmed when I imagined my Mama clapping for me as I sang music from our radio.

Minutes went by as different guys were called up to a private room. I looked around the room and saw movie posters for motion pictures that had just been released. There were pictures of some actors standing in the limelight. And some held something that I longed to have.

An Oscar.

“Enrique Viramontes?” A voice said. I turned and saw a woman with red lipstick and black hair smiling at me. I stood up and walked behind her to a room. I entered and saw three old white men sitting on a table. They had paper and a camera in front of them.

“Hello?” I said, grabbing the attention of the men. One of them grumbled when they saw me. I stood up straight and made sure I didn’t look nervous.

“Stand in front of the screen.” One of the men said. I obeyed and moved to the screen where the camera was pointed at me. The red lipstick woman went behind the camera and positioned it on me.

“You are a servant who’s just seen a long lost loved one. There are props to your right. Use them if you wish.” The last of the men said. He was nicer. I like him.

I turned and saw a few props. I chose a silver tray and stacked some faux oranges and cups on the tray. I held it and heard the camera click, signaling that I was being recorded.

I walked to the center and looked to my right. I then thought of my Mama and Papa, and imagined they were finally here. I gasped and exaggerated my movement by dropping the tray. I forced a few tears to escape my eyes and gasped my breath.

“Y-You’re back. You’re finally back.” I cried. I then bent down and picked up the items while still maintaining a shocked face and looking in the right direction.

“CUT!” The angry man said. I stopped and the red lipstick woman handed me a tissue. I grabbed it and wiped my eyes. I saw the men talking and writing down some things. They grabbed the film that had my acting and labeled it.

“Thank you, Enrique. You may leave now. We’ll call you about any updates” The nicer one said.

“Thank you for this opportunity.” I said. The nicer man nodded and returned to talking. I exited the room and walked back to the room with the other auditioners.

“Spic.” A man said when I walked past him. I decided not to say anything back. My mood was chipper as I was excited that I may get the role.

My acting was perfect if I do say so myself.

I left the studio and saw the sun beginning to set on the City of Angels. It was the golden hour right now. I guess I was there for a long time. My stomach grumbled and I knew I had to eat. I went to work and decided that I would eat there.

It was the next day and so far no calls. I was beginning to worry that I didn’t get the role. I sat on my futon reading a book when the phone rang. It’s ringing scared me and I jumped. I stared at the phone, forgetting how to pick it up.

“Hello?” I said.

“Is this Enrique Viramontes?” A woman’s voice said.

“Yes, this is him.” I said.

“Please hold for Benny Thau.” The voice said. I waited a few seconds.

“Enrique. I’m pleased to tell you that we enjoyed your performance and you’ve landed the role.”

My mind went blank. Was this real? Did I actually get the part?

“Can you repeat that again?” I said, still shocked.

“I said you got the role, Enrique. Congratulations.”

I fist bumped the air and silently cheered.

“Thank you! Thank you thank you thank you! You won’t regret this!” I said cherrily.

“I sure hope so. I’m taking a huge gamble putting you on. You’ve got a big day tomorrow. Be here at 9:00 am sharp! You’re late, you’re fired!” He said. I wrote everything down on my hand.

“Got it sir! Thank you again!” I said.

“Mmhmm. Bye.” He said and he hung up.

I sat there for a few minutes, trying to let everything settle in.

“WOOHOO!” I cheered as I stood on my futon and jumped.

This was finally it. I’m getting the chance that I’ve always wanted. I may just be a servant, but it’s better than nothing. I jumped all day and was in a happy mood. Nothing could bring me down.

“Mama. Papa. I did it. I’m finally making my dreams come true.” I said into the twinkling stars. A few tears escaped my eyes.

Mama always said she wanted me to follow my dreams. And to take any opportunity because in those moments we’ll find that success and happiness can come from them. And before she died, she told me that whenever I wish to speak to them, to look up at the stars.

“Te amo.” I said.

I closed the window and layed in my bed. My outfit for tomorrow next to me is ironed out. I closed my eyes, imagining what my first day would be like. It’ll be my first time acting. And I knew that this was the start to something much bigger. Something that would change my life for the better.

2. WAR HERO

WAR HERO

Marshall

Landing in Los Angeles was a surreal feeling. A soft breeze blew through me and the weight of my past was now long gone. My past life is just that, in the past. And there was no way I was going to look back.

I hopped off the train at Los Angeles Central Station. I looked everywhere and saw the bustling city as people walked to get to their destination. I received a few salutes due to my uniform. I searched for a payphone and finally found one.

“Hello?” My mom’s voice said.

“Hi mom!” I said.

“My son! How are you? Where did you go?” She asked.

“I’m great. I came to Los Angeles.”

“Los Angeles? That’s very far.” She sounded concerned.

“I know, mom. But remember when I said I wanted to be an actor. Well this is my chance. I can finally become something in life.”

“If that’s what you want to do, I won’t stop you.” She said.

“Any word on Casey?” I asked. Although I no longer care for her, I still wanted to make sure she was at least fine.

“She’s… fine. Word spread about what she did to you. No one wants to talk to her. Her reputation is tarnished.” She said. Good. It’s what she deserves.

“I have to go mom. I’ll talk to you soon.” I said.

“Okay Marsh. Do good there. Find work and a nice lady.”

“I will mom.” And we hung up.

I walked through the city, carrying both bags in hand. Deciding to get a hotel, I set my bags down and changed. This was going to take a while to settle.

A few weeks flew by and I had bought a house somewhere in Culver City. It was a bit away from downtown Los Angeles. But the city so far has been amazing. I get to see so many people from different places.

But acting was still on my mind. I waited for a while to settle in the city before I took the chance.

It was a rough day. I’d been walking through Beverly Hills because I was feeling bored. I saw a club called the Sunset Strip that served alcohol. Perfect. I needed this.

I entered and was starstruck when I saw Veronica Lake exiting the club. She was surrounded by people who wanted to touch her at least. But her guards prevented that.

I entered the club and made my way to the bar.

“One whiskey.” I said. The bartender poured it into a shot glass and handed it to me. I chugged it down quickly. I asked for another one. And then another.

“How much?” I asked the bartender.

“It’s already taken care of.” The bartender said. Confused, I asked by who.

“That gentleman over there.” And he pointed to the other side of the bar where a handsome older man sat. He was smoking a cigarette and reading a newspaper. I stood up and walked towards him and took the seat next to him.

“Excuse me, sir.” I said. He tapped his cigarette to remove excess ashes.

“Hmm. Yes?” He said. His voice was raspy, probably from the amount of cigarettes he’s been smoking. Add to that the alcohol next to him.

“Thank you for paying.” I said.

“Anytime, buddy.” He said. I was about to leave when he grabbed my wrist. I turned to face him and was ready to punch him when he held out a hand to stop me.

“Where were you stationed?” He asked.

“Anzio.” I said, recalling the past months.

“So you were in the war?” He asked.

“Yes, I was.”

“Perfect. You wanna be a star, kid.” He said, smirking at me while he held a cigarette in his mouth. I did in fact want to be a star.

“Of course.” I said, intrigued by this conversation. He pulled out a folded piece of paper and handed it to me. I read the title.

‘LOOKING FOR ACTORS: Sign up at MGM studios.’

I looked at him as he took a hit of his cigar.

“Is this real?” I asked.

“Real as ever, son. I see potential in you. And if you decide to take a leap of faith, you might find what you’ve been looking for.” He said. He stood up, slamming a $50 bill on the counter and put his jacket over his shoulder. He put his hat over his head.

“What’s the role about?” I asked.

“A war hero. See you there.” He said. He gave me a small wink before he walked out the bar, leaving me speechless. I questioned if this was real or not. The paper looked authentic indeed. Maybe I should go. Maybe I’ll find the job I’ve wanted. And possibly something else.

Morning came along and I got up ready. I fixed my hair and put on my best clothes. I left my home and made the drive to MGM studios. I entered the visitor parking lot and began to make my way to the casting center. A few signs pointed to different places with different roles.

‘Old Relative’, ‘Music Singer’, ‘Servant’ ‘Unloyal Wife’. Who the hell wants to be a servant. Doesn’t matter. I looked further and saw MY role. ‘War Hero’.

I followed the signs as I went to the room in private. A bar was set with snacks for all of us. I sat in a chair for a while as I waited for my name to be called.

“Marshall? Marshall Cromwell?” A soft voice said. A woman with red lipstick stood and scanned the room. I stood up and she motioned for me to follow her. I walked and was led to a separate room. A table of men stood and saw me enter. They welcomed me sincerely.

“Welcome, Marshall. Are you ready?” One of the men asked. I nodded.

“Splendid. Today you will be auditioning for a war hero who has returned from overseas. You’ve inherited a large sum of money after your father died. You will now pretend that you found your wife, Willa, cheating with another man.” A man said. Ouch. This is going to hit home. I breathed in and heard the click of the camera in front of me.

“Ready when you are.”

I closed my eyes and imagined the anger that boiled when I found Casey in bed. My mind began to gear into anger at the thought of her.

“H-How could you? How could you?! I GAVE YOU EVERYTHING, WILLA!” I ran my hand through my hair in frustration. “I SAVED YOU FROM DEBT! I GAVE YOU A LIFE! AND YOU THROW THAT AWAY?!?” A few tears pricked my eyes. Then I lowered my voice. “I loved you.”

I took a few seconds of silence. “Get out of my house…” And then I stopped talking. I heaved my breath and stared into the camera, making sure they could see my anger and sadness.

“CUT!” And then I was finally able to relax. The three men stood up and clapped. I bowed.

“Amazing work Marshall!” The middle man said. They clapped more while the red lipstick woman took out the roll of film and wrote down something on it.

“You may leave now. We’ll call you if any updates arrive.”

“Thank you! Thank you for giving me this opportunity!” I said.

“Of course! Have a great day!” And I was led out to the room. I felt a jovial energy around me. I was almost skipping while walking.

I arrived home and sat on my couch wondering if I got the role. They probably had to watch the recordings of everyone. What if someone was better than me? I hope not. I put my entire chest into that scene. And I have first hand experience.

The next few hours were some of the most nerve wrecking of my life. I waited by the telephone, just waiting to hear the sudden rings. After a few more hours, I gave up. Most likely they gave the part to a more handsome actor.

RING RING RING

I instantly picked up the phone.

“Hello?” I said.

“Please hold for Benny Thau.” A woman’s voice said. I don’t know who that is but I guess I’ll wait.

“Is this Marshall Cromwell?” A rough voice said.

“Yes. This is him.” I said, sweating up a storm.

“I wanted to congratulate you that you have been given the role of war hero in our newest movie.” His voice said. I froze and my heart beat quickly.

“Are you serious?” I asked, currently in disbelief.

“Yes, Mr. Cromwell. We want you to come to the studio tomorrow to get your script.”

“Okay! Okay! Yes! I’ll be there!” I said.

“Great. Congrats kid. You’ll do great.” And he hung up.

I set the phone down and cheered loudly. My screams were loud.

“I FUCKING GOT IT!” I said. I jumped up and down but stopped when my neighbor told me to shut up. I did but still kicked my legs like a child.

My dreams are finally coming true.

3. SERVANT BOY

SERVANT BOY

E

nrique

First day on set as a newly made actor. I couldn’t believe I was here. I drove through the parking lot. But a man stopped me and told me I had to park outside the gates. While it was a simple request, I wondered if the fact that my skin color had anything to do with it.

I entered the studio and asked a woman where I needed to go. I told her my name and she checked her paper. I was pointed in the direction of my left and followed it. I passed several other actors. Burlesque women with feathers, men covered in water, detectives, clowns.

This is the dream.

I entered the sound stage.

“Enrique Viramontes?” A voice said. I turned around and saw the red lipstick woman walking gracefully up to me.

“Hello.” I said, waving to her.

“Welcome to MGM studios. My name is Roberta. I’ll be taking you to the cast room where you’ll get your script. Follow me.” She said. I walked behind her. She was a beautiful woman. But I would never court her. Since I was young, women have never fascinated me. And I’ve wondered to this day why. Why can’t I love women?

“You know, the producers cried during your screen-viewing.” She said.

“They did?” I asked. I was taken aback. I didn’t know my acting was THAT amazing.

“Yeah. They watched your audition and you got a standing ovation. They knew right then and there that they wanted you in the role.” She said. I blushed at that comment. I guess I did better than expected.

“They said that they were taking a gamble casting me. What did they mean?” I asked. She turned around and looked me in the eyes.

“Hispanics never get such huge roles. They are usually supernumeraries with no lines. So to cast a Hispanic as a supporting actor, the second largest role in a film, is something unheard of. It was a concern, but they hope the public will look past that and see how amazing you are.” She said. She smiled and continued walking while I caught up to her.

A few more steps and I was let into a room with a large table. Several professional looking people walked around carrying papers or props.

“This way.” Roberta said. I followed her and was met with a man. He held a cigar in his mouth and wore a hat.

“Roberta.” He said in a raspy voice.

“Jeremy. This is Enrique. He’s-”

“The one and only who brought Charles Brackett to tears.” He said. He patted my back. He was a bit taller than me and had black pepper hair. “I must say boy, you’re quite a good actor. I reckon you may have more roles in the future if you keep acting like that.” He finished complimenting me.

“Thank you sir.” I said.

“You truly are a dime a dozen. Let’s go get your script.” Jeremy said. I followed him and saw a few packets of papers. One of them said my name. ‘Enrique Viramontes’ was scribbled on the page.

“Here you go.” Jeremy said, handing me the packet. I took it. Goddamn even the paper was amazing. I read the title of the movie.

‘The Lonely War Hero’ ‘Enrique Viramontes- Servant Boy’

I admired the words. Yes, I was a servant boy. But it was a supporting role. Meaning that I was the second best. And it’s also a role that can get you nominated for an Oscar. I’m dreaming too far.

I read over the script. If I’m being honest, some scenes really weren’t the best. I was meant to play a servant of a large estate that gets passed down to a war soldier returning home. But the factor put in to make my character silly was that he was clumsy. I had over a dozen scenes where I had to spill something.

At least I got to catch a woman cheating on her husband. So there’s that.

“Enrique. Come on. You need to practice.” A voice said. I was grabbed by my wrist and was led away from where I was. I didn’t even know who this was.

“Excuse me. Who are you?” I asked the fast woman rushing through the mass.

“My apologies. I’m Sarah. I help actors to prepare for upcoming scenes.” She said. I calmed and relaxed realizing that she wasn’t going to kill me.

“Here we are. So today we want you to practice how to hold a tray.” Sarah said. A man approached us and gave me a silver platter with fruits and cups on it.

“Now hold it with your bottom right hand palm.” She said. I did what she said and held it, bending my arm to make it look like I was a server.

“Perfect.” She said. She walked around me and fixed my posture and fingers.

“Now I want you to pretend to drop it.” She said. I nodded and walked a bit before I tipped the platter and all the content fell.

“Okay. That’s… fine. I want you to work more and that moment before it falls. Try to look at the content and make the expression that it’s falling and there’s nothing you can do.” She explained to me. I mentally took down all she said.

“Like this.” She said. She got the platter and tipped it. It looked so believable.

“Now your turn. Lean down when the tray is falling. I have to leave. But keep practicing. Remember, make it as believable as possible.” She said.

“Thanks, Sarah.” I said. She patted my shoulder and left the room.

I observed my surroundings and saw a few others doing their own things. Some worked on how to walk. Others practiced on how to pretend to drink water without actually drinking it. I picked up the tray and began working on it. I would occasionally glance at the script and would say the lines I was meant to say while dropping it.

A few minutes into me practicing. I think I got the hang of it. I even created some on the spot lines and jokes I could say. One involved me saying a Spanish phrase.

I held the tray and closed my eyes to learn how to do it in the dark. I was walking blindly when I bumped into something, no, someone. I fell on the floor and opened my eyes.

There was a man, slicked black hair and bright blue eyes. He looked… handsome.

“Watch where you’re going, spic!” He yelled at me. I jumped back as he stood up and dusted himself off.

“The hell is a wetback doing here.” The man mumbled. He walked out of the room and didn’t look at me

“Pinche pendejo.” I said. I picked up all my stuff. I looked and some people were looking at me. I hope they weren’t judging me. I’m just a 22-year old trying to make it big in Hollywood. I had no idea why that guy was so angry. I did nothing to him that would warrant slurs.

I pushed it to the back of my head. I know this won’t be the last time I experience this.

A few minutes later, Sarah came back.

“Enrique. Come one. It’s time to meet your co-star.” She said. I perked up.

Finally, it’s time to meet the people who I will be working with.

The ones who also want to shine like me.

bye! i love you all!

4. SUPPORTING ACTOR

SUPPORTING ACTOR

Marshall

Today was the first day on set for me. It was still surreal the fact that I got the role. My mom and brother were so happy. Mom said she was going to brag to all her mom friends and my brother was going to brag to all his Yale friends that I am in a movie. They even said that I might get an Oscar, which sounds far fetched, but not impossible.

I was expecting to walk into the writer’s room peacefully but some idiot Mexican had his eyes closed and bumped into me. I lashed out at him and may have said a few slurs. I might have been harsh but he should’ve had his eyes opened. I hope I never see that guy again.

I made my way through the large crowd and searched around.

“Excuse me. Can you tell me where the director is?” I asked a random worker.

“Who the hell are you?!” He said rudely.

“The main actor? Marshall Cromwell?” I said like he was the most idiotic person in the world.

“Right. Sorry sir. He’s that way.” The man quickly pointed. I rolled my eyes and turned to go in that direction. There he was, laughing while talking to some people. He was the most powerful person on this set. He can fire me on the spot if he wants to. I stood behind the group of people until they were finished.

“Hello, sir.” I said. I extended my hand.

“You must be Marshall. Pleasure to meet you.” He said. He gripped my hand tightly, enforcing his authority figure.

“I am. And you must be…?” I said.

“Victor Fleming. Director of this film.” He said. I remembered his name for directing The Wizard of Oz and Gone With The Wind. HE’S directing this film.

“Come join me. Let’s go get your script.” He said. He put his arm over my shoulder and we walked side by side.

“It’s very busy today.” I said, noticing everyone walking around.

“Yep. It’s day one. If you’re slow in Hollywood, you get left behind.” He said. I took note of his words. Afterall, this man is a legend. Any advice from him is gold.

“Here you are. Welcome to the cast, Marshall.” He said. I ran my fingers over the paper. Nice paper! I read the words on the paper.

‘The Lonely War Hero’ Marshall Cromwell- Sebastian Ritz

I smiled at my character’s name. I am responsible for bringing this person to life. His fate relies on how I act. I must be the best.

“Marshall!” A female voice said. I turned and saw a woman walking to me.

“It’s time to film a short scene. Hurry up!” She said. She grabbed my hand and dragged me to the set. The set was set up as a small frame with it decorated as a lavish house. I was dragged and placed in a chair.

“Claire. You know what to do.” The woman said. Before I could ask, I was sprayed in the face with water. A woman began to clean me up. My face was washed and my hair was fixed.

“Voila! You’re a new man.” Claire said in a French accent. I admired how amazing I looked.

“MARSHALL! ENRIQUE! ON STAGE! NOWWW!” A loud voice said. I recognized it as belonging to Victor’s. I immediately made my way to the stage so I didn’t make a bad first impression. I was on stage and saw no one else.

“We’re gonna be shooting some scenes. Just go with the flow. Marshall. Your servant will be coming in. You’ll read off the cards. Ready? Action!” Victor said before I could respond. I sat on the couch and waited. Then my co-star came in.

What the fuck!?!

In came in that Mexican who bumped into me. I narrowed my eyes at him when he saw me. When he laid his eyes on me, he began to feel nervous and started sweating.

The scene ended. And during that time, I arrogantly would respond to my co-star, whatever his name was. I decided to approach the director.

“Victor. Who was that guy I was filming with? Was he a stand in or…?” I asked.

“Stand in? Oh no. He’s your supporting actor. You’ll be filming with him for the next few months.” He said. I groaned. Seriously? Him? Out of all people. They brought one of THEM in here.

I knew I was getting too angry. I needed to calm down. I went to a table with food and grabbed a cup of water and drank it down. I looked to my right and saw HIM standing there, reading through his script.

Looking at him now, he doesn’t look bad. He’s a bit shorter than me. And his face looked young but you knew he was in his early twenties. Simply put, adorable.

If I was going to be filming with him, we might as well be friends or at least on good terms. I decided to put my cup down and approach him.

“Hey, you!” I said, walking up to him. He looked up from his script and his eyes began racing.

“Hey.” He said in a soft voice. His voice was much different than when he was on screen. On screen, his voice was loud and expressive. But here, in front of me, his voice was soft.

“I want to apologize for how I was today. I didn’t mean to call you those unkind words. I guess I was just angry.” I said. I rubbed my hands on my pants to remove the sweat. Why was I nervous?

“Oh. Well. It’s okay. I should’ve paid attention.” He said. His slight accent was amazing. He stayed quiet and went back reading his script.

“Hey, wanna read our scripts together?” I asked, holding up my script and moving it.

“Sure! Here, let’s sit.” He said. He pulled out two chairs and we sat.

For the next few hours, Enrique, which was his name, and I read our scripts. I could tell we had good chemistry. During some scenes, it’s like we knew what the other was going to do. A lot of improversation was done and we planned on asking the director about these changes. The day came to an end and we were told we would be meeting the rest of the actors the next day. They also advised us to read the script whenever we can.

I called my mom and brother and told them about my day. I mentioned the script, the director, and how hectic it was. And then I mentioned Enrique as my co-star.

“Slow down, brother. You sound like you’re in love.” My brother laughed when I went on a tangent about my co-star.

Later that night, I sat in bed and thought of Enrique. I had completely forgotten about Casey at this point. I really enjoyed Enrique’s presence. His accent was great. His laughter was contagious. His skin was glowy.

I’m not sure why I had these thoughts. Maybe I just like being around him. But as friends. Right?

bye! i love you all!

5. DREAMERS

DREAMERS

Enrique

Marshall was actually a nice man. Very nice and welcoming. He apologized for the things he said to me. I invited him to script read with me and it was great hanging with my co-star. We may have gotten off the wrong foot but it’s all good now.

I returned home later that day and couldn’t take Marshall’s smile off my face. His deep laugh, smooth black hair, and carved jawline. He indeed looked like a handsome war hero. These feelings scared me. Like I said before, it was hard for me to find attraction in women. But these… feelings… are towards a man.

I stayed up that night, wondering about these feelings. I thought ‘If I could kiss someone, who would it be?’ And I thought of a tall, sexy man.

Woah.

Five weeks later we continued to film. Being with Marshall everyday was one of the main reasons I went to work. I enjoyed hanging with him.

But movie work has me beat. I had to quit my job at the diner one week into filming because my schedule was hectic. I was able to survive off money that I had saved. And slowly, my paychecks for being in the movie came in. The amount, however, was small. And I came to the realization that I would not survive like this.

“Hey, En, you okay?” Marshall asked. I entered the studio that morning and I was exhausted. I stayed up all night preparing my lines. I guess Marshall noticed how tired I was.

“Perfect. Never better.” I said. I walked to the snack bar and got a cup of coffee and gulped it down quickly.

“They let spics in here now?” Someone said. I turned around and saw a guy walking away from me while glaring at me. It’s happened a lot since I began working here. Sometimes people would glare at me. Other times they made their hatred known by saying something to me.

And then there were times when Marshall defended me.

We finished filming for the day. We’re only 1/4 of the way done and we still had more scenes to shoot. But my drive came from the idea that this is what I’ve always wanted. I could feel my parents looking down at me, smiling seeing their child achieving their dreams.

“See you tomorrow.” Marshall said, pulling me into a hug and patting my back. I smiled, knowing that I had one person still alive who cared about me.

I began to walk home. It was during the past week when I stopped driving my car. I saved on gas but that meant I would arrive at work a little sweaty and exhausted.

Panic set in when I realized that rent was due in a few days and I didn’t have enough. I worried that I might get kicked out of my home. The cold breeze swept through my curls and I inhaled the air. I looked from where I just came from and saw the searchlights waving into the sky. I could feel the Hollywood energy sweeping through me.

I walked through the empty streets and saw a poster hanging on the light pole. I pulled it and saw the writing.

‘STRIPPERS WANTED!’  ‘At Dreamer’s Paradise. Male Strippers Only’

I exhaled through my nose. I couldn’t go back to my diner job. The owner was hesitant to hire me to begin with. And then I quit. There’s no way I could go back. And I needed a job that would allow me to work at night.

Maybe being a stripper is what I could do. It’s not that I wanted to. But had to.

I tucked the paper into my pocket. This reminds me of how I found the wanted ad for the movie role. And that changed my life. Maybe this poster will do the same.

I arrived home and went to sleep. I’ll look into the details tomorrow night.

It was now time for me to go to Dreamer’s Paradise. I made sure to shower carefully and trim my hair. I arrived at the place. It was located in a secluded area. And the words ‘Dreamer’s Paradise’ were illuminated in bright red neon signs. I witnessed a few men enter the place while I continued to stand outside.

I hesitantly entered the place and looked around. There were several old gentlemen sitting in chairs and bars talking with one another. They all dressed professionally. But many were interested in what was going on at the stage.

There was a young white guy. Probably my age. He wore a skimpy outfit. And by outfit, I mean only underwear which in itself was way too short. He danced around seductively and moved his thin body. He got off stage and made his way to the closest guy that held money. The stripper got on his lap and began to dance on him while the sitting guy stuffed money in the stripper’s underwear.

“Amazing, right?” A guy next to me said. I jumped, forgetting that I was staring. The guy next to me looked at me closer and narrowed his eyes.

“What’s a young pretty boy like youse doing here?” He asked. The man was a bit on the older side, with white and black hair and a mustache to go with it. His face was plastered with a smirk.

“I, uh, saw a position for hire, and uh…” I stumbled on my words.

“Say less. Follow me.” He said. I did and he led me through the club until we made it to a private office.

“Take off your clothes.” He said.

“What?” I said, while I began to unbutton my shirt.

“I need to see what I’m working with.” He said. I agreed and removed my clothes until I was left in my undergarments. I felt exposed. He began to trace his fingers through my body. He traced my abs and pecs and rested his palm on my bottom.

“Do you know why there were so many old men out there?” He asked while continuing to look at me bare body.

“N-No.”

“Out there in the real world, they don’t get the chance to be who they are. They spend their whole lives hiding. This place, however, changes that. They can fulfill all their fantasies without being judged.” He said. It made sense. Being gay is a taboo subject.

“Mmmm. Okay! I’ve determined that you are indeed perfect.” He said.

“If I was perfect, why did you take so long to observe me?” I asked.

“Just wanted to get a good look at you.” He said. He reached into a locker near him and pulled out an old plastic bag. He went through it and pulled out a small underwear.

“Here.” He threw the underwear at me. I caught it and looked at it. It was very small. It was gold and sparkly.

“What do I do with this?” I asked.

“Put it on, idiot. You start work right now.” He said. I gulped nervously and pulled off my undergarments. I pulled the underwear on. It was humiliating. My junk was almost falling out and my bottom felt tight in it. I might as well have been naked at this point.

“You get paid per every guy you satisfy. Any tips you get are all yours. Got it!” He said. I nodded.

“Oh one more thing. We need a stage name for you.” He said. I began thinking.

“Goldie.” I said, looking down at the underwear which began to rub glitter onto my thighs.

“Good one.” He said. He signaled me to follow him and I went.

I’d been working at Dreamer’s Paradise for a week. I got lessons on how to dance from a trainer. He said that I was a natural and never seen someone move how I did. Today was my debut as Goldie. I cringe whenever I hear that name.

“And now. Gentlemen, put your hands together. Making his debut tonight. The spicy Latino, GOLDIE!” The presenter said. Clapping erupted and I walked on stage. I made my way to the center where a pole was at. I grabbed it as the music began.

I started off simple. I did twirls and high leg kicks. And then I began to thrust my bottom onto the pole. I grinded on it and moved sexually. I earned a few cheers from men who must’ve been enjoying the show. I slowly began to feel more alive and danced even better.

When the music stopped, I looked into the crowd and saw a man holding out money. I knew what this meant. I went towards him and began grinding on him as he stuffed the money into my underwear.

“I fucking love me a Mexican.” He raspily said into my ear. I danced on him more as he pulled out more money.

The rest of the night, I danced with many guys. I had to leave the club several times because my underwear was overflowing with money. A lot of the men were actually respectful. They allowed me to dance while shoving the money. But a few weren’t so kind.

A few men groped my bottom and one guy slid his hands into my bottom and crotch. But I had to continue dancing. Another guy mentioned that he wanted to kidnap me and take me home to do whatever he wanted.

My shift ended and dread filled me. While I made a good amount of money, I hated what I had to do to get it. I was applauded since tonight was the most successful night, thanks to me.

Even though I no longer wanted to dance, I had to. In order to survive. So I guess this is my life now. Acting during the day, and stripping at night.

bye! i love you all!

6. GOLDEN BOY

GOLDEN BOY

Marshall

“CUT!” The director said. We ended the scene and began to walk off.

“Amazing work, gentlemen.” Victor said to me and Enrique. I turned and got a better look at Enrique’s outfit. He wore a white button up, black pants, black dress-jacket, and shiny black shoes. He was dressed like a servant. Meanwhile I wore khaki pants and navy blue collar shirts.

“Any plans tonight?” I asked Enrique. His eyes widened and he looked like he was trying hard to think of something.

“Yeah. I have… stuff.” He said. I knew he sounded nervous but I chose to ignore it.

I wanted to hang out with Enrique outside the studio. He genuinely is a nice guy and I wished to be with him more.

Later that night, my mail arrived. I scanned through everything. I saw letters from old friends, spam, and then one that angered me.

‘From Casey’

That bitch! How did she even know where I lived? Probably my mom told her. I wanted to read the letter so badly. But I couldn’t. She hurt me too much. She betrayed me. I ripped up the letter and threw the remains in the trash. She doesn’t deserve my attention.

Because another person has all my attention. I thought of Enrique. How does another man make me feel this way? I feel tingly. I feel warm. I feel happy. Enrique was a kind and gentle soul. I looked into his eyes and saw so much determination and pride in what he was doing. I knew he was an amazing actor. I watched his screening and I myself cried. And I wasn’t the only one apparently.

But seeing his screening, I couldn’t help but look closer to his eyes. And I saw longing. Like the person he imagined was someone he hadn’t seen in so long. I didn’t know much about Enrique’s past. I just knew that he came from Mexico. He knew about my mom, brother, and my dead father.

I kept thinking about Enrique. I wonder what he’s doing right now. He’s probably in his bed sleeping or probably walking around practicing his line.

This is ridiculous!

I had all these feelings for another guy. Could I be attracted to Enrique?

I figured why not see if men can make me react. If I did in fact like Enrique, then maybe men would turn me on. I stood up from my bed and began walking back and forth. If I go somewhere and have a man dance on me, I could get caught. I need to remain secretive. I’m a rising star. If anyone saw me asking for a dance from a man, my reputation would fall before it even rose.

I sighed. Fuck it! I’ll try it now!

I grabbed a large dark coat and styled my hair. I had no idea where to go.

“It’s located on the dark corners of Tri-West. Go there if you want a hot hunk of man to dance on you.”

I remembered overhearing that conversation a few weeks ago.

“It’s called Dreamer’s Paradise.”

Dreamer’s Paradise? I needed an experiment. Surely this place will give me that.

I just hope I see no one I recognize.

I hopped into my car and began driving to Tri-West. I drove around for a while until I saw a dark alley. I was going to ignore it until I saw two men walk out of there, touching each other seductively. I hopped out of my car and entered the alley. It was dark, cold, and disgusting. I walked further until I saw a red neon light glowing.

‘Dreamer’s Paradise’ is read.

I took one last breath in and entered. I looked around and saw a few men sitting next to each other. I saw one guy’s head down in front of another guy’s pants. I turned away and continued scanning the room. Then a voice came on from the stage.

“And now. Gentlemen, put your  hands together. The iconic, spicy Latino, and sexy, GOLDIE!” The man’s voice said. I saw people cheer for whoever this goldie was. I decided to stick around and see what happens.

The center of the stage was lit up with a stage light and a pole was there. Footsteps approached the pole until the figure, wearing only sparkly gold underwear, appeared on stage. And the guy dancing shocked me.

It was Enrique.

I stared in astonishment as Enrique began dancing on the pole and moved his body. His gyrations synced with the music playing through the speakers. I watched on as Enrique danced and would bend down sometimes. His body was amazing. I continued watching until Enrique hopped off the stage.

He made his way to the closest guy and began to grind his body on his. Meanwhile the sitting man was shoving money into Enrique’s underwear.

I couldn’t look away. His body moved so naturally. He kept a sexy expression on his face. My eyes trailed down to his bottom that was mostly exposed.

I felt my pants harden.

That proves it. I’m attracted to men. But only Enrique.

I watched on as Enrique danced on a few other men.

“I wanna fuck him so badly.” A voice next to me said. He was talking to another gentleman next to him. So I guess I’m not the only one who is attracted to Enrique.

“I’ve been here the past week. Everyone wants to fuck him.” The other gentleman said.

My throat was incredibly dry. I swallowed my saliva that had built up in my throat. Watching Enrique, out there dancing, I began to wonder what the purpose was. Did he do this for fun? Is it a secret kink? Or is he whoring himself out.

He continued dancing with more men and I grew… angry. I watched on and felt myself grow angrier at the sight of an older man placing his hands on Enrique’s bottom. No one else noticed, but I saw his face flinch, obviously feeling uncomfortable. I wanted to take that man’s hands off Enrique and take Enrique home and make him feel safe.

I want Enrique to be safe.

How did Enrique even find this place? How does he know about Dreamer’s Paradise? What made him come here?

Enrique’s underwear was full of bills and I watched him walk to a back room. I coughed and adjusted my hard-on in my pants. I secretly followed Enrique to the back. I entered and saw him pulling out the money from his underwear. I entered the room, exposing myself.

“MARSHALL?!?” He said. He jumped back and got an article of clothing next to him and covered his lower area. I approached Enrique and grabbed his wrist.

bye! i love you all!

7. LIVING AIN’T CHEAP

LIVING AIN’T CHEAP

Enrique

I covered my crotch area, surprised to see Marshall of all people here. I didn’t want him to see me like this. He would probably judge me. But he doesn’t know why I’m doing this. He grabbed my wrist tightly.

“What’re you doing here?” He asked. I was too stunned to speak. I felt hot when he grabbed me tightly. Not the bad kind. No. But the good kind.

I didn’t answer him, just stared into his blue eyes. He was concerned for me, I can see it in his eyes. Suddenly, he pushed me back and pinned me to the wall. My bare back hit the cold wall and I felt shivers go through my body. The jacket I had covering me was dropped. I looked down.

His crotch was touching my crotch. I blushed. I also felt that he was turned on. His crotch was rock-hard. I gulped and looked up to him looking down at me.

“Why are you doing this?!” He asked loudly. I cowered in fear, not wanting him to hurt me.

“Please step back.” I said softly. Marshall looked down, seeing that he was still holding onto my wrist. He let go and stepped back.

“I’m sorry, En. I didn’t mean to hurt you.” He said. He turned around and picked up the jacket and handed it to me. I put it over myself to cover my top body.

“So, what are you doing here?” He asked.

“Working.” I said. I hope he doesn’t ask for more information.

“Why?” He asked. I made eye contact with him.

“Acting isn’t enough. And living ain’t cheap.” I said. He began to step closer to me.

“What are YOU doing here?” I asked him, turning the tables.

“I was, uh. I came to…” He began to stutter his words. Judging from his hard-on and flustered expression, I connected the dots.

“You’re here to get a dance from a guy, huh?” I said. He blushed.

“No! You’re wrong! I needed a drink!” He said.

“So you walked into a dark sketchy alley and didn’t see the guys getting their dicks sucked or the skimpy dressed men dancing? And you stayed?” I said.

“It’s not what it looks like!” He said. He was much closer to me, practically pinning me on the wall with his larger, more muscular body. I once again felt his hard-on brushing on my crotch. I felt myself harden too.

“Oh yeah? Cause to me, it looks like you want a guy to dance on you. What’s wrong? Need to fuck a guy? Want to experiment? Or did you want to see me?” I asked. I was playing with fire. I’ve seen Marshall angry before. The first time we met. The look in his eyes scared me.

“Shut up!” He said, much closer.

“If you want, I could offer myself to you-”

He cut me off by kissing me.

His lips were soft and he tasted of cigars and cinnamon. I closed my eyes and accepted the kiss. He brought his hands to my back and coddled me while continuing to kiss me. He then pulled away.

“Are you able to pay rent?” He asked me, his face back to neutral. It was like he never kissed me. He looked away, not looking down at me. I felt a bit hurt. Maybe he didn’t like the kiss.

“Barely. I have to work extra hours.” I said. I can’t believe I’m opening up to him.

“How much do you get an hour?” He asked, still not looking at me.

“I don’t. I get paid for every guy I dance with.” I said. His eyes flashed anger. Was he jealous?

“Have you…” He began saying but didn’t finish.

“Have I…” I said. I had no idea what he was trying to say.

“Have you….” He started to say. He looked nervous.

“Just tell me what I have done!” I asked. He turned and looked at me before turning away. His face flushed red.

“Have you had sex with any of the guys yet?” He asked. I chuckled.

“No. I’m a stripper. Not a prostitute.” I said. He sighed in relief.

“Great.” He said, no expression in his voice.

“Move in with me.” He said. I quickly looked back up at him. He looked at me too.

“Are you serious?” I asked.

“Yes. Move in with me. You’ll save on money. And we can carpool to the studio everyday.” He said. But I couldn’t help wondering if he was also expecting more from us living together.

“You sure I won’t be a bother?” I asked.

“No. Never.” He said. My heart jumped.

“Fine. But we need to set some rules.” I said.

“Okay. First: you cook. I can’t cook for my life.” He said.

“Perfect. Second: no staying up too late. I need beauty sleep.” I said. He laughed.

“Deal. Third: no inviting people over unless the other is aware.” He said.

“Done. And fourth: no funny business between us. Separate bed, separate rooms.” I said. His face pinged with humiliation and sadness. He huffed.

“Fine.” He grabbed my wrist.

“Put your clothes on. We’re leaving.” He said.

“Where?”

“Home.” He said. Home. That’s what I have to call it now.

I put on my clothes. I felt Marshall watching me. I had to remove my underwear. I asked Marshall to turn around. He did but I can feel his eyes on me. We got into his car and drove to my home.

“This is where you live?” He asked. He looked around.

“Yeah. Don’t enjoy it, but it does its job.” I said. I packed the items I brought with me when I first moved here. I took clothes, photos, and anything I liked.

“Can I take these? They look nice.” He said. I turned to him and saw him holding some Mexican dishes. I shrugged and he punched the air in excitement.

After packing everything in my bags, I went to the front door.

“I’ll come back tomorrow and get the rest. And I’ll turn over the keys.” I told him. I got into my car to drive it to his place.

We drove through the night streets. Neon signs flashed and people entered cinemas. I saw a young boy with his mother and father, coming out of a cinema room and laughing.

We reached his house. It was much bigger than mine. I entered his front lawn and parked my car in a spare spot. I turned it off and exited the car, taking some of the stuff. Marshall was behind me holding the rest.

“Is it fine if I sleep on the couch tonight? I am way too exhausted.” I asked Marshall.

“Of course. I’ll go get a blanket.” He said. He disappeared into one of the several rooms in the home. I got a good look around. It was dark but everything was so organized.

“Here you go.” He said. I layed on his couch, enjoying its soft texture. I sunk into it, and Marshall draped the blanket over my body.

“Goodnight.” He said, his voice sweet.

“Night.” I said.

And before I knew it, I had fallen asleep. I was now asleep in a new home. It wasn’t the house itself that was the home. But who was in it. Marshall. I knew I liked him. Why else would he have been hard after watching me? I didn’t know why he was at Dreamer’s Paradise. He kissed me. He kissed ME! This is definitely a scandal. If the public knew about that kiss, the movie is done for.

I’m a Mexican. I stripped. I kissed Marshall. Could I be more problematic?

Nevertheless, I slept like a baby that night. I had nothing but sweet dreams.

And in my sweet dreams, I imagined my Mama, Papa, and Marshall clapping for me as I won an Oscar. I knew it was a dream. My Mama and Papa were dead. And there was no way I could win an Oscar.

But Marshall was in it. He was happy. And I knew that THAT was real.

bye! i love myself and you all!

8. HAPPY MISTAKE

HAPPY MISTAKE

Marshall

I layed in my bed that night tossing and turning. The idea that Enrique was down the hall from me terrified me. He was now in the area where I am myself.

Seeing him tonight, moving his body and dancing, really rewired my brain. Enrique’s body moved smoothly. His grinds were perfect and so was his body. I could imagine my fingers running along his toned chest as he heaved hard breaths.

I opened a window. It was getting way too… hot in here. My throat began to go dry so I journeyed to the kitchen to get a glass of water. I stared out into the night sky, seeing the searchlights dancing around.

I turned my head to see Enrique asleep. His breathing was steady and his chest moved up and down. His lashes brushed on his eyes. He wore a smile on his face. He must be dreaming of something nice. Wonder who is in it.

Realizing how weird it was for me to stare at a sleeping person, I exited the living room and went back to bed. I should just sleep it off.

Wait! I kissed him!!!

I stayed up for a few more hours thinking about that kiss. I felt more feelings at that kiss than I did with Casey. Fireworks launched through my body. After I kissed him, I chose to try and ignore it and not bring it up. It must’ve worked because he also didn’t bring it up. I hope he didn’t feel uncomfortable with it.

The next morning, I woke up to the smell of something sweet. I stood up and stretched, flexing my muscles. I was currently shirtless and only had nighttime pants on. I caught a whiff of something in the air. A sweet aroma. It encompassed me while I sat there trying to figure out what it was. Deciding it was time to get up, I hopped out of bed and made my way to where the smell was coming from.

Walking down the hall, I could hear whistling coming from the kitchen. I saw the couch where Enrique was sleeping the night before was empty. All the blankets were folded up neatly. I  turned and peaked into the kitchen.

There he was, whistling while making coffee. He had a plate full of bread.

“Oh, you’re awake!” He said. He turned and saw me. His eyes trailed down my body.

“So are you.” I said. I approached the table and sat down.

“I’m used to getting up early. I didn’t want to wake you so I made breakfast.” He beamed while pointing to the coffee and bread.

“What is it?” I said. He brought the plate over and set it in the middle of the table. I looked at the pastries while he poured coffee into two mugs. The pastries were different colors. They were round and had this hardened sugar on the top of it which was cracked all over the surface. Some of them were pink, white, and brown.

“Pan dulce. Conchas, to be exact.” He said as he set the mugs in front of me and himself. He sat down, admiring as I looked at the sweet delights.

“What does that mean?” I asked.

“Pan dulce is sweet bread. Very common from where I’m from. These specifically are conchas. They’re called like that because they kinda look like shells.” He finished.

“Try one.” He said. I looked up at him and then back down at the bread. A bright pink one caught my attention as it sat in the middle of the pile. I picked it up and smelled it. It smelled nice.

“Aye, por favor! Just eat it!” He said while laughing. I took a bite out of it and was met with a pleasant taste.

“Mmm. This is amazing!” I said while chewing the bread. Enrique gave a satisfied smile and he too began to eat one.

We spent that morning eating and talking. Enrique told me about his cooking skills and how he plans to cook more. I was delighted to hear this. I offered to buy ingredients so he could cook more. I think I ate about half a dozen of En’s breads.

“I’ll go and fix the spare room.” I said after washing the dishes.

“Need any help?” En asked from behind me.

“No. You’re the guest. Let me do it.” I said.

“Fine. I’ll go buy groceries.” He said.

“There’s a market down the street. Here, I’ll give you some money.” I said. I pulled out some bills and handed them to him. He left within a few minutes.

I entered the spare room. I had a few items in here but not too much. The house came furnished meaning this room had everything in it. I began working and removed my spare clothes. I found the jewelry and felt like I didn’t need to hide it. I know there are some prejudices out there about people like Enrique. But getting to know En, I now know that those assumptions are false. Because En is amazing.

My opinion on other people has changed ever since I met Enrique. I’ve grown to accept others and judge them based on their character. And I’m thankful for that.

The front door opened and I knew En was home. I walked into the kitchen and he was facing away from me.

“Hey. How was it?” I asked.

“F-Fine. Apples we-re on sale.” His voice quivered. He’d yet to turn around. Something was up.

“Are you okay?” I asked. I began to get closer to him.

“Yeah. Fine.” He said but I knew he wasn’t. I got closer and was behind him.

“Turn around.” I said. He let out a ragged breath and slowly turned around.

He stood there as his left eye was bruised.

“What happened?! How did this happen!?! Are you okay?!?” I asked as I grabbed his face and brought him closer. While looking at his face, a few tears escaped his eyes.

“I was at the store. Some guy came up to me and started yelling at me. I tried to talk him down but then he punched me.” He said.

“I’m sorry. Gosh. I should’ve gone. I’m so stupid!” I said. He grabbed my wrists.

“Calm down, Marsh,” My heart jumped when he said that. “It’s not your fault. You didn’t know this was going to happen.” He said. I stopped and went to my freezer to grab a bag of frozen peas. I approached him and put the bag on his left eye.

“Are you okay?” I asked as he put his hand over mine. Our fingers touched and my urge to entwine them was strong.

“Yeah. Are you?” He asked.

“I guess.” A few moments of silence. “Come on. I have your room ready.” I said.

I led him through the house, our house now.

bye! i love you all!

9. LIMELIGHT

LIMELIGHT

Enrique

My eye hurt so much but I chose not to complain. I don’t want to bother Marsh by complaining about my eye. I know he feels bad, but it’s not his fault. He still refuses to let me buy groceries and offers to go himself.

“Goodness me! What happened to your eye?” Sarah asked. Today was photo shoot day. The movie is almost done and the cast will now take a few photos to display all over the country.

Imagine that. My face somewhere in New York or Chicago looking down at everyone.

“Uh. I got into an accident.” I said. The bruise had gone down a bit.

“Well. Nothing a bit of makeup can’t fix. CLAIRE!” Sarah yelled. A woman came and Sarah signaled to me. Claire grabbed my face and examined it. She nodded to Sarah. Before I could say anything, I was hauled onto a chair and makeup was put on me. After a few minutes, I looked into the mirror. I looked back to normal.

“Photo time, gents.” Victor said. I got off the chair and thanked Claire. Making my way to the set, I saw my co-stars. Chloe Granados, Samuel Lee, Kimmy Hudson, and my favorite person…

Marshall Cromwell.

We were organized into a sequence. Since I was the supporting actor, I was in the front. Marshall turned to me and smiled, making me heat up.

“Alright everyone. Give me ‘I just won an award but I don’t care’ face.” I didn’t know what the photographer said but I tried my best.

“Excellent. Keep that face!” He said. Flashes happened and my eyes were blinded by them.

For a few hours, we took several different photos. Some were individual photos and others were group photos. At one point, Marshall had accidentally touched my bottom. I turned and he apologized. However, it felt like his hand was still there. And it was an amazing feeling.

Once the photos were done, we were allowed to go home. Marshall was asked to stay back. Since he was my ride (cause we live together now), I had to stay.

“Since you’re the main actor, we would like to take a few more explicit photos. Are you okay with that?” The photographer asked. Marshall gulped and turned to me. I shrugged.

“Let’s do it!” He said, a hint of nervousness in his voice.

“Great! Take off all your clothes.” The photographer said.

“All of them? Even…”

“Yes, even your undergarments.” The photographer said. Marshall turned to me and began undressing.

“I’m going to go get a cup of water.” I said. I walked away, leaving Marsh to undress himself. Why did I decide to stay? Now I have to see the man who I’m falling for completely bare. I took my time getting water. After I was done, I went back to the set.

Upon entering, I saw him. He was sitting on the couch, and he was naked. His pecs and abs were shiny. I think they might have put oil on them. His muscular arms held his head up and the other head a cigar. And his… stuff… was hanging out. I saw it and was impressed by its size. I gulped and felt my face heat up.

Marshall was grinning and posing. He looked sexy, I will say. I live with this man! He turned and Marsh made eye contact with me. He didn’t say anything, just stared. He moved his pecs and I choked on my saliva. I turned away.

“Enrique. Want to give it a go?” The photographer asked me.

“N-No. I’m okay.” I said, still feeling flustered after seeing Marsh. I turned back again and saw Marsh getting up. His… stuff… began swinging around. He put on a robe and began to dress back.

After changing, which I may or may not have been watching intensely, he came up to me.

“Liked what you saw?” He whispered in my ear. I blushed and pushed him back. I touched his pecs briefly and felt just how strong they were.

“Shut up.” I said. We entered the car and didn’t talk about it. But I knew that his body will forever be worshiped by my excited brain.

The next day, we had an urgent meeting at MGM studios. Judging by how frantic the phone call was, it wasn’t good.

“This is bad. This is really bad!” A voice said. I determined it to belong to Victor.

“Is everything okay here?” Marshall asked. His loud booming voice made me quiver, in a good way.

“No. it’s not.” Sarah said. Marshall, me, and the rest of our co-stars sat in the room. Some other people like the sound engineer were also in the room.

“We have a problem.” Victor, the director said.

“Is it about one of us? Or…” Chloe asked. I panicked, hoping that my stripping past wasn’t going to be an issue.

“No. A financial one.” I sighed in relief. What? No! This is bad too.

“MGM studios has decided to cut our funding in half. They needed some spare money to fund a new movie.” Victor said, running a hand through his hair.

“Why our movie?” Chloe asked, pursing her lips. Victor looked at me.

“That’s not the point. We need to focus now. Some of you may be laid off. Some of you will get a pay decrease. I really didn’t want this to happen. But if we want The Lonely War Hero to continue, we must make sacrifices.” Victor finished.

I felt guilty.

“We could,” I said but then raised my voice higher. “We could raise money.” I said. Everyone looked at me. Some laughed at my idea. I looked at Marshall and he was thinking.

“That’s not a bad idea.” Victor said. “Listen up! I’ve decided that we will each raise money in different ways. Let’s try to pull in… $4,000 by the end of the week. If we all work together, I’m sure we can do something!” Victor said. Everyone agreed. So when I say that idea, people laugh at me but when he says it, it’s genius? Got it.

The meeting ended and I began walking back to the car.

“You okay?” Marshall asked.

“No. I feel like the reason they cut our funding is because of me. Because of my skin color. I know Victor didn’t say what the reasoning was. But from the look in his eye when he looked at me, I knew it was my fault.” I said. Marsh rubbed my back in a comforting way.

“Even if it was about you, at least you gave a solution to fix this. If you didn’t speak up and reveal your idea, we would’ve shut down production. You saved us, En.” Marsh said a nickname and I blushed.

“Thanks, Marsh.” I said. Marsh hugged me from my neck and brought me closer to him. I took a whiff of his scent, becoming adjusted to him.

bye! i love you all!

10. PUT MY APRON ON

PUT MY APRON ON

Marshall

Genius!

That’s the word I would use to describe Enrique. His idea for each of us to raise money was something I would have never thought of.

“I got the food. What will you be cooking?” I asked Enrique. Enrique came up with the idea to sell food. It was perfect. His cooking, if I do say, is spectacular.

“We’ll see. I’ll make something people will enjoy.” He said. He went through the bag and removed all the ingredients I bought. He inspected each one and made small piles.

“Do you have to cook. I’m sure we can do something the both of us could do.” I said. I felt useless. Since I can’t cook, I’ve decided to just stay in the living room and be out of Enrique’s way.

“I mean, I could strip again.” He said. He smiled at me while I shook my head.

“No no no no. Cooking is fine!” I said quickly. I tried to suppress the images of Enrique stripping because I didn’t need to be excited right now.

Enrique stared at the food for a while, going through everything. He mumbled to himself while I just sat in a chair, aweing at En. After a few minutes, he began to pull out pots and pans and sat everything up.

“Do you have an apron I could borrow?” He asked me. I nodded and got up and found one. When did I get this? I don’t remember.

“Here. Put my apron on.” I said.

“Could you put it on for me?” He asked. I walked up to him, his back turned to me.

I ruffled out the apron and set it to the front of him. I pulled on the strings and made sure it fit him perfectly. My mouth was right next to the crook of his neck. My breath fanned his ear. I took in a large whiff of his hair. He smelled of lavender. I tied the strings to the apron.

“Is it tight?” I asked raspily into his ear.

“Not enough.” He said, in a deep voice.

I untied the apron and then knotted the strings much tighter. I made a knot and then suddenly made the strings tighter. He let out a small gasp and lunged forward. When he lunged forward, his bottom stuck out and he grinded on my crotch.

“Is that tight enough?” I asked.

“Mmhmm. It’s tight enough.” He said. He stood back and turned. His face was red while I smirked at him. I moved one of his curls behind his ear.

“Well, are you going to cook or keep looking at me?” I asked.

“Right. Go to the living room and watch TV. Don’t bother me.” He said. I picked up a tomato and threw it on the floor and laughed. I picked it back up quickly when he held up a knife.

While I sat on the couch, I would steal glances at Enrique and see him cooking. His movements matched whenever he would act and strip: smoothly. I think I’m falling deeper in love with him.

“So, what are you making?” I asked.

“Nachos.” He said.

After about an hour, the house smelled amazing. I closed my eyes and recalled the days when I would come home from school and would smell my mom’s cooking. No doubt she’s proud of me right now. She must feel so happy that her sons are living their lives. My older brother is at Yale while I’m starring in a movie.

I wonder about Enrique’s life. All he said was that he came from Mexico. But that’s it. He never spoke about his past. If I’m going to fall for him, I want to know more about him.

“Marsh! Are you there?” Enrique’s voice snapped me out of my daydream.

“Hmm. Yeah? I’m here.” I said. He stood next to me. And he didn’t have a shirt on.

“I need a shirt. All mines are dirty.” He said. I stared at his muscular chest. His abs and pecs glistened with sweat. I wanted to trace my fingers over them.

“Umm. I’ll give you one.” I said. He put on my shirt while I watched him. He looked so adorable in my clothes.

“Where do you want to sell?” I asked.

“Right outside MGM.” He responded. We spent a few minutes packing all the food and taking them to the car.

“Help!” En said. I saw him struggling with a huge pot. I giggled, enjoying seeing him struggling with the weight. I went to help him and we took the pot to a table we had set up.

Once everything was done, En began to serve the food. We waited for the clock to hit 2:00 pm, which was when many of the MGM employees would go on break. When they came out, the smell of the food attracted them to our location. Slowly, many people came to buy food. Soon, our spot was crowded with many people. I jumped in and started helping. My new role was to collect the payments.

Within the hour, we sold out. It was all gone. I was a bit upset because I wanted to try En’s food.

“We did it!” En excitedly said. He held the box of money and shook it, hearing the money move around.

“Let’s go home and see how much we made.” I said. We packed up everything and drove home.

“Count it! Count it! Count it!” En said next to me.

“My, aren’t you a happy one.” I said. En settled next to me and sat as his legs brushed on mine.

I spent a few minutes counting how much money we made. During this time, En’s leg would shake which meant he was nervous. I put my hands on his knee to make him stop because it was making me lose focus.

“$765.50!” I said.

“WOOHOO!” He said. He danced around and I laughed.

I stood up and danced with him, the only music playing was that in our heads and our laughter. We didn’t care how loud we were, because this was our world. And here, the center is us.

“Wait until they hear how much we made!” He said. I frowned because I was hungry myself.

“Are you okay? You look angry.” He said.

“I wanted to try your food.” I said.

“Aww. I think I have a bit left behind.” He said. He turned and pulled out a tray which was covered in aluminum foil. When he removed the foil, there was his cooking.

“Eat up, big boy.” He said. My mood shifted and I plopped down on the chair and began eating.

This is my life now. And I wouldn’t change it any other way.

bye! i love you all!

11. ACTION!

ACTION!

Enrique

“Scene 47.” Victor said. We were able to raise enough money to start production again. Everyone surprisingly pulled their weight and the goal was achieved. I guess my idea wasn’t stupid.

This scene was… interesting to say the least. I was meant to fall and land on top of Marshall. An awkward feeling ran through me. Marsh and I haven’t discussed our “relationship”. He kissed me and he invited me to live with him. The tension was more prevalent when he put an apron on me and I felt his breath fan my neck.

“Aaaaaaaaaanddd, action!”

“Hello, good sir. How would you like to have your coffee.” My character spoke to Marsh’s.

“Nathaniel, you already know.” Marsh’s character said while standing in front of me.

“Of course, sir. Black.” I said. I went to walk past him.

This was when we fell.

I tripped and fell when I was close to Marsh. I fell on top of him while he was underneath.

“My apologies, sir.” My character said. We had to keep this position for a while.

At that time, I stared at Marsh and he stared at me. His eyes were so blue. It reminded me of a beautiful fabric that an old woman used to wear back in Mexico. And it also reminded me of my Mama’s blue blouse she wore on Sunday’s.

“CUT!” The director said. I got off Marshall, feeling his warmth fade from me.

“Are you okay?” Marsh asked me.

“Definitely.” I said.

“Tell me about your life.” Marsh asked when we were home. We had just finished eating and were laying on his sofa.

“Well, I was born in Mexico.” I started off.

“Was it nice?” He asked.

“It was. The beaches were warm. The plazas where I used to hang out were always festive.” I said while looking at the ceiling remembering those days.

“But…” Marshall said.

“There was violence. It got really bad and so I came here.” I said.

“What about your parents?” He asked. I felt my motor functions stop.

“Dead.” I said. I was silent for a while. I turned and saw Marsh looking at me with wide eyes.

“I’m sorry. If you don’t mind me asking…” He led on.

“No, it’s fine. They were killed. I was 16 and we came home from a primo’s party. Two men came up to them and demanded our stuff. Mama and Papa stepped in front to protect me. They gave everything except this.” I pulled out a necklace I was wearing.

“It belonged to my Mama. She refused to give it up. They…” I said but breathed in heavily. Just the thought of that night still brings me memories. “They shot them. In front of me. They ran off and I sat next to them. They made me promise that I would always do what I loved. And never to let someone try to tell me I’m an inutil .

“Mama gave me the necklace and promised I would pass it on to my children. I promised and my dad swore that I will always be a gentleman, even when the world treats me horribly. They died, and I was alone.” I finished.

Marshall had tears in his eyes and touched my face.

“I’m sorry that happened to you. No kid should ever witness that.” He said. I sobbed and leaned into his warm hand.

“It’s fine. They never caught the men. One day, I walked into my house and saw everything destroyed. That’s when I knew it was time to leave.”

“And so you came here.” He said.

“Exactly.”

“I’m glad you’re here.” He added. Emotions flooded my body. I felt warm.

“You speak English so amazing. Who taught you?” He asked.

“My Mama. She always knew that I would move to the US. So she bought English books and taught me at a young age. And my dad would make me translate his mail.” I said.

“They really cared for you.” He said.

“They did. Tell me about your family.” I said.

“Oh, there’s not much. I have a mom. A younger brother. And my father left my mom when he went to war. He died in combat.” He said.

“I’m sorry.” I said.

“Ehh. I never really met the guy. My mom was distraught but she continues to live in South Dakota. My younger brother went to Yale. He was always the smartest out of the two of us. I decided to go to war and was in Europe for a few months. When I came back, I saw my girlfriend cheating on me with another man.” I don’t know why, but I felt anger at whoever this girl was. How dare she cheat on such an amazing man!

“I decided to come here. I’ve always wanted to become an actor. I hopped on a train and came here. Found an acting job. Took it. And now I’m here.” He finished.

“And now we’re both starring in a movie together.” I said. Marsh looked at me and smiled.

We continued talking for a while after that. It was just me and Marshall on the sofa talking and laughing. Once bedtime came, we went our separate ways.

I slept that night as the laughter of Marshall echoed in my head. A comfort sound. His bright blue eyes pierced into mines. His black hair shiny. His smile. Oh his smile. No doubt he’s movie star quality. That smile can make anyone fall for him.

And I fell for him.

bye! i love you all!

12. NOVIA LOCA

NOVIA LOCA

Marshall

“How much flour do I use?” I asked Enrique. He asked me to help him cook but so far all I’ve done is drop everything and use salt instead of sugar.

“Here- just… Let me cook. You go and do something else.” En laughed while I laughed sarcastically. Obeying, I left the kitchen and went to the living room.

The movie so far is coming along great. We’re almost to the end scene which, as much as I’ve read, is a sad ending. En is amazing. Every time he acts, I can’t help but fall deeper in love with him. It’s taking me so much to not go up to him and hug him and kiss him again.

Just thinking about that kiss we shared months ago sent shivers down my back. Good shivers. And I want to kiss him again. I want to confess my feelings for him. But who knows how the public and media will react if we’re caught.

A knock at the door alerts me. I turn to En who is busy cooking. I stood up and went to the door.

“Casey?” I said, looking at the woman who stood before me.

“Oh Marsh! Good heavens! I’ve been worried about you!” She said while jumping at me and engulfing me into a large hug. I pushed her away and glared at her.

“Why are you here?” I asked, looking down at her like she was dirt.

“I missed you, Marsh.” She said in a whiny voice.

“No, Casey. Why are you here?!” I asked more sternly.

“Well, after you left, I guess people found out about what I did. No one wants to talk to me. I was thinking that if you took me back, maybe people would see we’re still soulmates.” She said tearfully. But I knew too well to not fall for her tricks.

“We are not soulmates!” I said loudly.

“Marsh-”

“NO! You broke our love when you cheated on me with another man! No one talks to you because they know what you did was horrible! I’m sorry that you’re lonely, but that’s the price you pay for being an unloyal bitch!” I said.

I breathed, trying to calm myself down. Casey just stared at me with wide eyes.

“I’m really sorry.” She said.

“Yeah, well, save it!” I said.

“I heard you were in a movie. Just know that I’ll be by your side if you take me back.” She softly said.

“Absolutely no! Did you just come back here just because I’m successful now!” I said.

“Marsh, is everything okay? I hear yelling.” Enrique said from behind me. I walked into the frame, wearing the apron and had a bit of flour on his face.

“Everything is okay. She was just leaving!” I spoke, referring to Casey.

“Ma’am. Please leave. You’re obviously bothering Marshall…” Enrique said, standing next to me.

“Marshall, why is a spic living with you?” She said pointing to Enrique.

“Ma’am, please leave-” Enrique tried saying.

“Scram! Go back to where you came from!” Casey said.

“Do not speak to him like that!” I yelled at Casey.

“Don’t stand up for him. You know his kind-”

“NO! You don’t know anything. Enrique is the best person I know. He is loyal, caring, and special! He’s a better person than you’ll ever be!” I said.

“Who cares?!” She said.

“¡Pinche novia loca!” Enrique said. His accent came out, and my ears caught his shift in tone.

“What did you say, spic?! Are you going to let him say that to me?!” She screamed.

“Yes, I will.” And I slammed the door in her face.

I seethed and En rubbed my back. I turned to face him, noticing our closeness.

“You’re amazing.” I said to En.

“So are you.” He said.

I stared closer to his face. I brought my thumb up to his cheek and rubbed off the flour he had on. A blush came on his face. I felt his breath on my face. His brown eyes swirled with gold in them.

I leaned in closer to him. He leaned in closer. I looked at his lips, his bright pink lips.

DING!

The timer for the oven rang.

“I-I should go check on that.” Enrique said. But I wanted nothing more than to stay in this position for a while longer. And I guess he did too.

We stayed in that position a bit longer.

“Okay. Now I really have to go.” He said. He began to pull away and walk away. I stared at him as he walked away. I couldn’t help but stare at his behind.

We almost kissed. Again.

And I wanted to kiss him. I wanted nothing more than to pull him in and give him the biggest kiss I can give. I want to give him everything I have. I want to share my life with him. It sounds too early to say that. We only kissed once. But even now, I know that I feel things for Enrique that I never felt with Casey.

I feel…

Love.

bye! i love you all!

13. THAT’S A WRAP

THAT’S A WRAP

Enrique

“Will you ever return home?” I said to Marshall.

“I’m not sure. Being in the home has made me see that life has more to it than being stuck on this hill.” He said.

“At least say goodbye before you leave.” I said.

“Goodbye, sir. Please look after our home. You’re my best friend.” He said.

“And you’re the best man I know.” I said

“Goodbye.” He said. He leaned in and hugged me. I hugged him back and let a few tears escape my eyes. He turned away and carried his luggage.

He walked towards the front door. He took one final look around and said goodbye to all of us. I cried while he cried too. He looked forward to the outside where the sun was shining as a new day was dawning. He took in a breath of relief and exited the home, stepping out. And his return is to be left unsure. I cried more, not sure when I would see him again.

“CUT!” Victor Fleming said. The bell rang on the sound stage.

“That’s a wrap, ladies and gentlemen!” Victor said. We all cheered. After months of filming, we finally finished The Lonely War Hero. Marshall stood next to me and cheered. We hugged each other.

“You were fantastic!” Marshall said while hugging me. He handed me a tissue to wipe off my tears.

“So were you. For a moment I thought you were actually leaving me.” I shyly said.

“I would never leave you. At least not without saying goodbye.” He said.

The celebration continued on as champagne was poured. I was able to talk with some of my co-stars more. Chloe, who played the cheating wife, is actually an amazing woman. She complimented my acting, saying that she felt herself tearing up watching me.

“Enrique. I need to speak with you.” Victor said to me. I nodded and walked with him to a secluded room.

“So, pretty so we’ll be rolling out the posters for the movie. I just want to let you know that there may be some judgment regarding the supporting actor. If you’re able to, I want you to live with someone in a secure place.” Victor said. I began to worry a bit.

“I live with Marshall just a few minutes away from here. Is that okay?” I asked.

“Yes it is. Many theaters in the south don’t want to screen this movie. We want to show a clip of you acting to some of the theater owners and convince them to screen the movie. But either way, your acting is amazing, Enrique, and I’m sure you’ll get more roles in the future.” Victor said. His words encouraged me. Despite what the public might think about me, to hear Victor Fleming saying my acting is amazing is the peak of my ego.

Back home, Marshall and I continued celebrating. We stole a few bottles of champagne and since then have been drinking them.

“Rique. Can I, can I tell you something?” Marshall slurred. We both sat on the couch together and were sitting close.

“Of course.” I said.

“You are, th-the most amazzing actor I have evvver met.” He slurred. I blushed at his words.

“Thanks. You’re amazinggg too-o!” I said.

“No, you are! I know you’ll be a mighty fine actor.” He said. His voice sounded more certain. Gone was the slurring. It was like he was speaking from the heart.

“Hey, Marshall. You’re amazing too! We’ll both be successful. I know it.” I said. I turned to face Marshall who too was facing me.

Ever since our kiss back at Dreamer’s Paradise, I’ve been trying to imagine how Marshall’s lips would feel again. Are they still soft? Are they still passionate? Does he still want to kiss me? We never spoke about the kiss. Which was a shame because I had grown feelings and admiration for him.

I stared at Marshall’s blue eyes. The bright eyes that hypnotize me. His pink lips were calling to me.

“Enrique?” Marshall said.

“Hmm? Yes, Marshall?” I said as I looked back to Marshall’s eyes.

“I’m in love with you.” He said.

Time stopped when those words left his mouth. We had the same mutual feeling. We both loved each other. It was confirmed. My heart pumped faster as my body tried to remember that I wasn’t dreaming.

I leaned in and kissed Marshall.

He kissed me back and embraced me. We hugged as we kissed. Our tongues met. He groaned into the kiss and ran his hands through my hair. When we pulled apart, we were panting. That kiss took all our efforts. It was a kiss in the making for several months.

“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that.” Marshall said. We both laughed.

We once again kissed passionately on the couch. I shifted and sat on Marshall’s lap. I straddled him while he hugged my lower abdomen.

Drunkenly, we sat up and kissed. He kept enforcing his dominance but I wasn’t going to let him in so easily. We blindingly made our way to Marshall’s room, still continuing to kiss.

When we entered his room, Marshall started kissing down my neck. I let out a groan as he sucked on a part that made me lose it. He began to unbutton my shirt and removed it, revealing my toned chest to him. He sucked more on my skin. He came back up and kissed me some more.

It was my turn to make him feel good. I kissed his neck and removed his shirt. Just as I remembered, his muscular chest overpowered mine. I let my fingers run along his pecs and abs. I kissed every spot on his skin. He shuddered and moaned which excited my crotch.

After we kissed more, we removed clothes and were now lying on the bed in our undergarments. Marshall’s bulge was hard and I stared at how big it was.

“We should stop.” I said when Marshall moved his hand lower.

“Are you sure? Did I do something wrong?” He said, sounding upset.

“No. Never! I just want for us to enjoy this when we aren’t drunk. I want to feel you entirely without the effects of alcohol impairing us. Plus I don’t want either of us to regret it in the morning.” I said. I kissed Marshall to let him know that I still enjoyed it.

“That’s perfectly fine. But can you sleep with me tonight?” He asked. I nodded and cuddled next to Marshall. He hugged me from behind.

“Although I joy in thee, I have no joy of this contract tonight. It is too rash, too unadvised, too sudden, too like the lightning, which doth cease to be ere one can say ‘It lightens.’” I said.

“What is that?” Marshall said.

“It’s from Romeo and Juliet. It means we shouldn’t rush this, whatever it is. I love you and you love me. But we have to remember that this is entirely new to us. I’ve never been with someone before and you were hurt in your last relationship. We should take this slow and see what we both want.” I said.

“I agree. Goodnight, Enrique.” Marshall said. He kissed my temple.

Before I slept, a bit of pain seeped into me at the thought that Marshall and I can never be together. Or at least, not in public. I will never be able to tell the world how much I love Marshall. We will have to stay hidden for the rest of our lives.

But at least we’ll be together for however many years to come.

bye! i love you all!

14. POSTER BOY

POSTER BOY

Marshall

Upon opening my eyes, I squinted at the harsh light that came in. My eyes adjusted to the rays. I turned to my left and felt my arm hugging something. More like someone.

I turned and saw a sleeping Enrique. He was sound asleep, breathing lightly. His bare back was pinned up against my muscular chest. I noticed that the both of us were only in our underwear. My dick began to come to life when I noticed that it was very close to Enrique’s bottom.

I pulled myself away, missing En’s presence in my arms. I got up and stretched a bit. My head began to hurt from all the champagne from last night. I turned to look more at Enrique. His curves were something out of a movie star. Dare I say, he was much curvier than most women.

The images from last night came to my head at once. The kisses, the bites, the moans, and the skin-to-skin contact. We almost did it. We almost had sex. Of course, I understood where Enrique was coming from when he wanted to wait. I don’t blame him. I would also like to have sex with him when we knew we wanted it.

Enrique began to stir in his sleep. He moved a bit more and scooted himself back as if he was trying to find warmth. Instead, he opened his eyes and met mine.

“Good morning.” His raspy voice said. He sat himself up. Enrique was one of those blessed people whose morning hair is still attractive.

“Morning. How was your sleep?” I asked. Enrique got up and stretch himself.

“It was fantastic. Had a lot of warmth with me.” He said and winked at me. “Let’s go. I’ll make breakfast.” He said. He didn’t bother to put his clothes on. Neither did I. I enjoyed the view. Seeing En’s ass move side to side while he walked.

Over the next few days, En and I continued sleeping in the same bed. I joked that he might as well move his belongings to my room. It was my favorite cycle. Waking up with him, eating with him, talking with him, and sleeping with him.

We also did share kisses here and there. But none like last night when we were drunk. We’ve yet to reach that climax again. It was unspoken. We had hunger for each other, but waited until the time was right.

“Woah! Marsh! Look!!” En said while we were walking down the street. I turned to where he was pointing and saw it clear as day.

‘The Lonely War Hero’ ‘Starring Marshall Cromwell and Enrique Viramontes’ ‘Coming Soon!’

The poster read. En and I cheered and hugged each other at the sight of it. It was time. The project that we’ve all worked for was finally in completion.

It was hectic now. The public was now aware of our existence. Everywhere we went, cameras would follow us. We would get asked questions about our personal lives and family. We were advised to not say anything to the reporters. It’s happened before where someone will say the wrong thing and ultimately end their career.

Enrique was always ready for the reporters. He made sure to dress fashionably for the camera. He may not speak, but that doesn’t mean he can’t show off.

More posters for the movie were everywhere. From downtown LA to Inglewood. Posters featuring the whole cast. In all of them, I was always next to Enrique. And I was always smiling.

“Ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to The Ed Sullivan Show! Tonight, we have a special interview. Rising to fame, these two men are getting a taste of what it’s like to live the American dream. Please put your hands together for Marshall Cromwell and Enrique Viramontes.” Ed Sullivan said. He introduced us as we walked onto the stage. Claps erupted and we sat on the guest chairs.

“Welcome to the show, gentlemen. I hope you lovely people are having a wonderful day. Today’s two guests are starring in the new movie, The Lonely War Hero, which premieres next week. So, Marshall and Enrique, tell us, how was it being in front of the camera for the first time?” Ed asked us. I sort of froze at that moment, not sure what to say.

“Exhausting.” Enrique said, in which the audience laughed.

“Was it now?” Ed said.

“Well of course. Long days and hours. Plus, we rarely got breaks.” En said.

“I heard that production was almost shut down due to insufficient funds. How did you guys manage to recover?” Ed asked. I stole a glance at Enrique.

“It was all Enrique’s idea. He suggested we each raise money. Lo and behold, we raised enough money to continue filming.” I said. I think I saw En blush.

Throughout the interview, we talked about our time filming. We also mentioned that we lived together. It wasn’t weird. We were just seen as very close friends. But if only they knew.

“That’s all for today! The Lonely War Hero premieres next week on Friday. Tune in to see the amazing performances by Marshall and Enrique. Goodnight!” Ed said. We stood up and bowed at the audience as they cheered for us.

We walked backstage, making our way to our room.

“Woops.” Someone said. It wasn’t an accident. I saw as clear as day when this person spilled cold water on top of Enrique. Enrique was in shock. I did the only thing I could think of.

I punched the man.

“Don’t ever fucking do that shit again!” I yelled at the man who was on the floor cupping his nose which was bleeding.

“Let’s go, Marsh. He’s not worth it.” Enrique said. People gathered around us. I knew we had to go. I looked at Enrique’s brown eyes and calmed.

We left that area and walked through the backstage and reached our room. We gathered our belongings and made it to the car and then home. We entered immediately and as soon as the door closed, I pressed my lips onto Enrique’s.

“I love you so fucking much.” I said. I kissed Enrique even more as he kissed me back. Our own dance.

“I love you too. God, I love you so much.” He said. But then he began to tear up.

“What’s wrong? Are you alright, En?” I asked Enrique, brushing away his fallen tears.

“It’s just, I love you so much. And I hate how I’ll never be able to show that love to you in public. I want to kiss you in public but I can never do that. I’m sorry.” He said while crying. I hugged Enrique as we fell onto the carpet.

“It doesn’t matter. I’ll love you no matter what. I’ve never felt like this to someone else before. There’s no way I’m letting you go.” I said. Enrique had his face in my neck and sobbed silently while I rubbed his back.

“Do you promise?” He asked.

“I promise. I’ll love you for eternity.” I said. I cupped En’s face and gave him another kiss.

“We’re going to have to hide ourselves from everyone.” He said.

“If it means being with you, I’ll do it. For you.” And I kissed him again and again and again.

bye! i love you all!

15. OPENING NIGHT

OPENING NIGHT

Enrique

“Come on, En. The ceremony is starting in two hours!” Marsh screamed at me.

Today was opening night for The Lonely War Hero. The screening would happen. Anyone who is anyone will be here tonight. Victor informed us that now was the time to meet with other producers and hopefully get into more films. If the film is amazing, the opportunities will come.

My outfit tonight was a simple tuxedo. Marsh and I had gone to get custom outfits. What people didn’t know is that I stitched matching hearts on the sleeves for both our suits.

“Coming!” I yelled. I finished dressing and exited the bathroom. After styling my hair, I looked amazing.

I turned the corner and saw Marsh standing there. His eyes widened when he saw me. My eyes widened when I saw what Marsh was wearing. His suit fit his body perfectly. His hair was slick back and his skin glowed.

“You look amazing.” Marsh said. He walked towards me and snaked his hand behind me. He leaned down to kiss me and I kissed him back. His cologne flooded my nose, making me want more.

“We should go. They’re about to start.” I said. Marsh left one more kiss before we departed. We entered the limo that stood in front of our home. We hopped in and sipped a bit of champagne. I made sure to watch my drinking. Last time we got drunk, Marsh and I almost…

The limo pulled up to the cinema. A red carpet displayed and photographers were barricaded. Flashes shone in my face.

“I’m scared.” I said to Marsh. He grabbed my hand and kissed it.

“You can do this. I know you. You’re the bravest person I know.” He said. I huffed and nodded. The limo door was opened and Marsh went first. I went next.

There we stood as the camera’s attention was now on us. Marshall walked and gave a handsome smile to the camera. I waited a while until it was my turn. I walked and people took pictures of me.

Hearing the words of Marshall in my head, I began to stand tall. I waved a smile, imagining it was Marshall taking a picture of me.

We spent 30 minutes taking pictures. My nerves had loosened.

I am a star.

A small waiting time was set before the screening. Marsh and I just stood around as people greeted us. Marsh and I would talk to each other. I wanted to kiss him so badly.

The lights flickered, signifying it was time for the movie to start. Since we were the cast, we went in first and took our seats. Slowly, the auditorium began to fill up. I looked around and saw the whole place full of attendees.

The lights darkened, everyone was quiet, and the screen lit up. A few advertisements played for other movies.

The scene opened with a ship. The harbor was displayed as a melancholy sound played. In stepped Marshall. His character smoked a cigar and held a suitcase. He wore a war uniform.

Throughout the movie, I caught glimpses at Marshall.

Oh my sweet Marshall. How much he holds my heart.

I slipped my hand and grabbed his hand. Marshall blushed and grabbed my hand too. We hid our interlaced fingers in between the seats.

The audience would laugh when my character did something hilarious. I knew those improvised lines would be good for the script.

The ending came on. I cried, remembering when we filmed that scene. When I told Marshall I was going to miss him, Marsh gripped my hand tighter.

I’ll never leave you, Marshall. I hope you know that.

The audience sobbed at the ending. And why wouldn’t they? It was perfect. It was amazing. The ending is completely left to the mind of whatever the audience choses happens.

Once we exited the cinema, people clapped at us. We bowed, enjoying and bathing in the glory.

“BRAVO!”

“ENCORE!”

“AMAZING!” People cheered.

“Great film.” James Stewart said to us. We shook his hand.

“You gentlemen are fantastic. Hope to see you in more!” Vivien Leigh said.

“Enrique. That film was something else. Will I be seeing you in more?” Ingrid Bergman asked me. I was starstruck, standing in front of so many stars.

“Maybe. I hope.” I responded. Ingrid hugged me while I blushed.

“Enrique. Someone wants to talk to you.” Victor said to me. He grabbed my wrist and began to drag me away from the group and towards another. A small group of old men stood together drinking champagne and laughing.

“Rob!” Victor said. One of the men turned around.

“Is this him?” Rob said. I had no idea what was going on.

“Oh, Enrique! This is Robert Rossen. Another director. Not as great as me but still amazing.” Victor laughed. Stanley lightly punched Victor in the arm.

“Nice to meet you.” I said. I shook Robert’s hand.

“My pleasure. I really enjoyed your on screen presence. You’ve got talent, kid.” He said.

“Thank you. I really appreciate it.” I said.

“Listen, I’ve got a few projects lined up. How’s it you audition and see if you get in?” Robert said.

“Really? Yes! Let me know when the roles open up and I’ll be there!” I said. After talking a little longer with them, I returned to my lover.

“What did they want?” Marsh whispered in my ear.

“Robert Rossen wants me to audition for future roles.” I said back.

“Holy! That’s amazing! Congrats!” Marsh said. He patted my back but I knew he wanted to really kiss me.

And I hope he can kiss me more later that night.

bye! i love you all!

16. BOX OFFICE HIT

BOX OFFICE HIT

Marshall

To say I was happy is an understatement. People cheered our movie, I got to expand my credentials to more directors and actors. I’m becoming a household name. I’ve been invited to audition for more roles. And best of all…

Enrique was with me the whole way.

We’re both becoming successful and it’s a lot for me to take in.

We arrived home, our home. It’s been a long night. The limo stopped at the driveway. We thanked him. I distracted him while En stole a few bottles of champagne. As the driver left, we laughed at our stolen goods.

The house was silent, opposite from the hectic cinema screening. The movie will be released soon. It was Friday, so at night, people would line up to see the movie. Reviews would also come out from the screening. I hope they’re good. I know the south is hesitant to release the film because of En.

“A toast, to our success, amazing movie, and our love.” I said, holding a bottle of champagne up. En held his own bottle and clinked out bottles together. We both took a large gulp, enjoying the alcoholic taste.

After our drinks, En and I started kissing. At this point, it was instinct. It was a way of life. Kissing En is embedded in my head. I can’t go a day without his lips on mine. I want- no- NEED to always kiss him.

Kissing him, I brought my lips to his neck. I sucked while En moaned in my ear. God, he tastes amazing!

In our drunken state, we stumbled through the living room, then the hallway. We made it to our shared room, our lips refusing to split away. I removed my tie while En unbuttoned his shirt.

Soon, we stood in our underwear, kissing as our groins rubbed one another. I felt an orgasm just from him touching me.

The bed was our next destination. I layed on top of En, kissing his soft skin. He moaned loudly. He is mine.

The next morning, I had a terrible headache. My brain throbbed. Shouldn’t have drank so much, I told myself.

I turned my head to see a sleeping Enrique. We didn’t have sex last night. We almost did. But the alcohol along with the exhaustion just took over us. We fell asleep together. I hugged him close, for he was home.

During that day, En and I stayed home doing nothing. We called Chloe Granados, our co-star, and chatted for a bit. We waited patiently for any sort of review.

Another day passed. We turned on the radio and scrolled to hear anything.

“The Lonely War Hero played last night. According to many reviews, this movie might be the most successful of the years. Critics praised Marshall Cromwell’s and Enrique Viramontes’ acting. The film is expected to gross past its budget.” We heard. En and I were flabbergasted.

“No way! Did he actually say that?!” I said. En nodded aggressively, confirming what I heard. I hugged him tightly.

“The Lonely War Hero is already being hailed as a masterpiece.”

“That ending made me cry my eyes out. Enrique Viramontes is such an amazing actor.”

“Marshall’s sexiness brought a special charm to the character.”

“Once again, Victor Fleming produces another top-tier film!”

The radio was blasting with positive reviews. En and I danced in our house, celebrating our accomplishments.

The phone began ringing. We stopped dancing and went to answer it.

“Hello?!” I said a little too loudly.

“Marshall! Guess what?” It was Victor.

“Yeah? Is something wrong?” I was a little nervous.

“No! Of course not! Is Enrique there?” He said. I signaled for En to come over. He did, hugging me from behind and kissing the side of my face.

“I’m here!” En said.

“Perfect. So, the movie is doing incredibly well in the box office. It’s predicted we’ll get triple more than our budget, which is huge!”

“That’s amazing, Victor!” En said.

“It is. Which leads me to the next great thing! It’s not confirmed, but you two may be nominated for an Academy Award!” Victor cheerily said.

“Wait, are you saying we could get an Oscar?!” En said, sounding excited.

“It’s not confirmed, but it’s possible!” Victor said. En silently cheered. He pulled me into a kiss.

We hung up the phone and, for the millionth time that day, cheered and kissed.

“Let’s call mom! I mean, my mom!” I said quickly. I hope he didn’t catch that. I dialed the phone to my mother’s number.

“Hello?” Her sweet voice said. God! How much I miss her.

“Mom! It’s me, Marsh!” I said.

“Oh dear! I heard about the movie. Your brother and I went to go watch it with our friends. You did amazing, Marshy!” She said, calling me my childhood nickname.

“Marshy?” Enrique giggled behind me, still hugging me.

“Who’s that? Marshy, is someone with you?” Mom asked. I glared at En to not say anything. My mother can be one of the most embarrassing people.

“Hi ma’am. My name is Enrique Viramontes!” He said.

bye! i love you all!

17. ACADEMY NOMINATIONS

ACADEMY NOMINATIONS

Enrique

“Mom wants to know if you like blue or green?” Marshall said to me.

“For what, exactly?” I asked.

“She wants to know because she’s knitting you a sweater.” He said. It felt nice to have someone do something like that for me.

“Um, blue, I suppose.” I said. Marsh kissed me. Just a normal day.

The phone began ringing. I was confused as to why the phone would be ringing this late in the afternoon. I answered it quickly, expecting maybe some bad news.

“Hello?” I said into the phone.

“Rique, is Marshall there?” Victor’s voice said through the speaker. I motioned for Marshall, who was standing in the doorway looking at me, to come over.

“Marshall here. Everything okay?” Marshall said.

“Of course it is. Have you guys seen the news yet?” He spoke excitedly.

“No. What’s going on?” I said.

“Oh boy, Marshall, you’re nominated for an Oscar!” Victor cheerily said. I turned to look at Marshall who looked shocked.

“Marshall. You did it!” I said. He hugged me and sobbed in my neck.

“Thank you. Thank you Enrique. And thank you too, Victor. For giving me a chance.” He said. I smiled because it was amazing to see him happy. He deserves it.

“That’s not all. Enrique, you too. Best Supporting Actor!” Victor said.

“CONGRATS!” Marshall said. I hugged and we embraced each other.

“That the news. Our movie’s been nominated for seven Oscars in total.” He said

It was during this time when I thought back to my former life. My life back in Mexico. The death of my parents, my home getting destroyed. But out of all of those trials and tribulations, in the end, it led me to be where I am. I’ve got success, happiness, and Marshall.

“I love you, Marshall.” I said to him while we hugged.

“I love you too.” He said back.

Those words absolutely destroy me every time because I still can’t grasp the idea that someone loves me. I had my parents until I lost them. Then I thought I wouldn’t find any form of love. Marshall came into my life and proved myself wrong. I am worthy of love. I am worthy of happiness. I am worthy of amazing things.

Who cares if it’s almost bedtime, tonight we must celebrate.

I kissed Marshall, like always. He kissed back.

Our hands felt each other’s bodies. I felt his clothes and knew I wanted them off.

I slipped my hand under Marshall’s shirt, feeling his strong chest. His breath shivered upon me touching him. Like he was a deprived animal awaiting release.

“En… Enrique.” He moaned. I kissed his neck and made small marks on them.

His huffs and moans in my ear made me excited too. I felt my dick harden from the friction of our bodies touching.

“I want to show you how much I love you.” I said softly in his ear.

We began to drag our bodies, which were still connected, to the bedroom. I think I remember this part…

“Let’s go on the bed.” I breathingly said to Marshall.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” He asked.

“If there’s one person I want to give myself up to, it’s you, Marshall.” I said his name in a soft whisper in his ear to get him excited.

“Fine. If you say so.” He kissed me.

In an unexpected move, Marshall pushed my chest and made me fall onto the bed. I landed back first and gasped.

I watched Marshall as he began to unbutton his shirt. His amazing chest was visible as I imagined myself running my fingers and tracing every crevice. Marshall crawled towards me and caged his arms to both my sides. He leaned in and kissed me while I ran my fingers through his hair.

“Let’s get this off.” He said as he tugged my shirt. I unbuttoned my shirt while grinding into Marshall.

Once we were shirtless, I tugged his pants, wanting to remove them immediately.

“Slow down, En. I’m not going anywhere.” He said. However, this is a new feeling for me. It’s amazing. I want more of it. So my rush is expected with Marshall teasing me.

“ Por favor , Marshall.” I pleaded in a moan. He nodded and began to remove his pants. I also began to remove my pants.

“Let’s get these off too.” I said, signaling to our underwear.

Marshall pulled mines off first. My dick sprang out and hit my torso hard, making a slap sound. Marshall then pulled his off. I stared in awe, seeing his dick for the first time. He was huge, and hard, very hard.

“En, I’m gonna ask you one more time, are you sure you want this?” He said while clutching his underwear as he awaited my response.

I thought about it. Do I really want to give myself to Marshall? This is a huge deal. It’s the first time I’ll be showing my love to someone else. Am I making the right choice?

Hell yeah I am!

“Definitely!” I said. Marshall dropped his underwear as he climbed on top of me, leaning down and kissing me.

This is it.

bye! i love you all!

18. PLEASANT MORNING

PLEASANT MORNING

Marshall

I leaned in and kissed En with all my might.

“Suck my dick.” I said to En. He moaned from my touches. He nodded.

En got on his knees and crouched down. I was also on my knees but remained upwards. En grabbed my dick in his palms.

“I don’t know how to do this.” He said.

“Just open your mouth. Watch your teeth.” I said. En first gave my dick a few licks. I moaned just from them. Already this feels amazing.

After a few more licks, En got the tip in his mouth. He swirled his tongue around. He bobbed his head and took more of my dick in his mouth. Half of it was already in.

“Aawww fuck!” I groaned. I put my hand behind his head and thrusted slowly into him.

“MMhmm fmmfmm.” He said.

“No talking.” I said. I kept thrusting until my whole dick was in his mouth. He sucked it more, getting used to the size.Once my dick was wet enough, I pulled it out of his mouth.

“Get on all fours.” I said to him. He nodded and turned over. He arched his back.

I felt his body shiver when I ran my fingers down his back. I reached his hole. I spit on my fingers and entered one finger.

“This might hurt.” I said. I put one finger in. “Tell me when to stop if it feels painful.” I said to him.

“Mmhmm.” His voice gasped.

I fucked him with my one finger first. Then I added another and let him get used to the feeling. Then I added a third.

“I think I’m ready now.” He said.

“Okay.” I said. I spit on his hole again, admiring how small and tight it looked.

I grabbed my dick and slowly entered him.

“SLOW DOWN!” He moaned. He breathed heavily into the pillow. I slowed and stopped until he gave me a signal to continue.

I fully entered the tip and fucked him by sliding it in and out. I wanted him to get used to the thrusting before I put the rest in.

His hole felt tight. I can’t imagine what pain he must be going through.

“MORE!” He moaned.

“En. I don’t want to hurt you.”

“Please, Marshall. Fuck me!” He said.

Without any warning, I shoved my entire length in him. He gasped loud. His hole twitched and tightened harder. His entire body shook. He gasped for air.

“Is this what you wanted?” I teased. I kissed his back and sucked on it while he adjusted to the sudden pain.

“I love you.” I whispered in his ear and nibbled on it.

“I- I love you too!” He moaned.

I began to fuck him. He moaned louder. God, he feels so tight! I love him so much and I want to show him just how much. His pain turned into pleasure.

“Can I cum in you?” I asked,

“Please do!” He said.

I released in him while I thrusted harder into him. I grabbed En’s torso and balanced myself.

I pulled out of him and saw my cum leaking out of him.

“Can we go again?” En asked, his voice quivering. Poor thing.

“Of course.” I said.

We fucked that entire night. En’s body was just like how I first saw it. He was graceful and moved with sensations.

The next morning, my body was sore.

“Morning.” I kissed En’s forehead.

“My ass hurts!” He whined.

“Sorry.” I chuckled lightly.

“Can you get some towels? I can still feel your cum in me.” He said, “And I need a shower.” He added.

“Maybe I can join you?” I smirked. En reddened but nodded lightly. He tried standing up but collapsed. I helped him up and we walked to the kitchen, still naked.

“Sit. I’m making breakfast.” I sat En on the chair at the table. He winced as he sat.

“Thank you for being my first.” He said.

“You’re welcome. I hope I raised the bar for any future endeavors.”

“Oh you certainly did.”

“I love you.” I said.

“I love you too. So much!”

“I want to be with you forever.” I said.

“I hope you’ll be in my life para siempre .”

Our relationship has taken a much better turn now. We both know each other much deeper. Kisses and hugs weren’t enough. I can proudly say that En is my true love.

bye! i love you all!

19. AWARD NIGHT

AWARD NIGHT

Enrique

“Welcome, ladies and gentleman, to the 20th Academy Awards, hosted at the Shrine Civic Auditorium here in Los Angeles. I am your host for the evening.” The host said into the microphone.

Here we are, at the Oscars. Remember earlier when I said I wanted an Oscar? I guess dreams do come true.

“This year has been one of the most prosperous years of film. There’s a reason they call it The Golden Age of Hollywood. New stars hit the stage and other legends join us tonight. Without further ado, the ceremony has begun!”

The crowd cheered and the first presenters came on stage.

“The first award for tonight is Best Actor. Many movies had amazing and charming men on the big screen.” The first presenter said.

“And here are the nominees.” I looked at Marshall and gave him a reassuring smile. Before the event began, we made sure to remember that even if we don’t win, we’re still the best in our eyes.

“John Garfield in Body and Soul; Gregory Peck in Gentleman’s Agreement; Marshall Cromwell in The Lonely War Hero; William Powell in Life with Father; and Michael Redgrave in Mourning Becomes Electra.”  The crowd cheered while one of the presenters held an envelope in hishands.

“And the Oscar goes to…” A silence fell upon the whole auditorium. I glanced over at Marshall and gave him an approving nod. Ms. Cromwell, Marshall’s mother, held his mother’s hand tightly.

“…Marshall Cromwell in The Lonely War Hero!” The crowd cheered and clapped. Marshall stood up and dusted his pants. He gave a huge hug to his mom while whispering ‘Thank you!’ to her. Marshall then went on to hug me.

“You did it.” I whispered.

“Thank you for being here with me.” He said back. He pulled away while I patted his shoulder. He went on to hug everyone else and walked onto the stage.

I made sure to clap the loudest.

Marshall walked on stage. He got handed his award which he gave a kiss.

“I want to give a thanks to the Academy for giving me the chance to be here on this stage. If you were to have told me a year ago that I would be on stage in front of some of Hollywood’s biggest stars winning an Oscar, I would’ve called you crazy. I also want to thank Victor Fleming and my fellow co-stars and everyone who worked on The Lonely War Hero, who put hours into creating this film. A special thanks to Enrique Viramontes, my best friend who honestly has kept me sane the past months. Thank you! And good night!” Marshall exited the stage and was led away.

“I knew he would win.” I said to Ms. Cromwell.

“You really are a great friend to him…” She said and smiled at me. “Did you bring anyone to accompany you tonight?” She asked. We were each allowed to bring a guest. Most people brought friends or family.

I have no family and the only friend I have is Marshall.

“No. I don’t have parents.” I blatantly said.

“Are they back in Mexico?” She asked. My eyes teared a bit.

“Um, no. They passed away a few years ago…”

“Oh, honey. It’ll be alright.” She hugged me. Inside, I cried. I miss my parents so much. But I know they’re happy right now.

A few nominations passed by. Our movie so far has won Cinematography and Directing.

“A great star will always have a trusted partner by their side. Here are the nominees for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.”

“Charles Bickford in The Farmer’s Daughter; Enrique Viramontes in The Lonely War Hero; Thomas Gomez in Ride the Pink Horse; Robert Ryan in Crossfire; and Richard Widmark in Kiss of Death.”

The audience clapped. Nerves filled my body. I could feel eyes on me. My vision narrowed as I only focused on the two presenters on stage. They held the envelope and opened it. Time slowed down. I felt myself sweat and drip down my forehead.

“And the Oscar goes to…”

Silence

“Enrique Viramontes in The Lonely War Hero.”

I stood still. Did he really say my name? He couldn’t have. I must be dreaming. I was snapped out of my trance when Ms. Cromwell was shaking me.

“Enrique! You won! Go on stage!” She excitedly said. I stood up and hugged her, like she was my mother. I shook hands and hugged everyone at our table.

I walked onto the stage as people clapped. I get handed a statue. An Oscar. In the palm of my hands. I approached the microphone and looked at the large audience.

“Umm. Oh, I’m nervous.” I whispered but it still echoed into the microphone. The audience laughed, which made my nerves loosen up. “Ever since I was young, I’ve dreamed of being on this stage and holding one of these. I made a promise to my parents that I would follow my dreams. I know that my parents, God rest their souls, are looking down at me, happy and in glee of where I am. I want to thank the Academy for nominating me. I want to thank Victor for giving me a chance to be in his film. I especially want to thank Marshall, who has been my best friend since I moved here over a year ago. Thank you!”

I exited the stage only to be met with Marshall. He stood there clapping. I ran to him and gave him a huge hug.

“I knew you could do it…” He whispered.

We were escorted to get our pictures taken with our awards. I held mine up with pride. Marshall and I decided to give a small hint of our love by making our trophies touch. Anyone who would’ve seen the picture would’ve thought it was an accident. But in reality, it’s meant to show our love.

With that, our film won many other nominations. It was indeed a successful night. And one I’ll never forget for the years to come.

“Let’s go home. I’m gonna fuck you so hard you won’t be able to walk.” Marsh whispered in my ear.

“What about your mom? Isn’t she staying with us?” I asked.

“She’s taking a trip to Glendale and meeting with friends. We have the house to ourselves… mi amor …” He sensually said to me. I flushed at his Spanish words that no doubt he picked up thanks to me.

What an amazing night…

bye! i love you all!

20. A HOLLYWOOD ENDING

A HOLLYWOOD ENDING

Marshall

“3… 2… 1!” I said. I clicked the button and a flash of light brightened the room.

“Another one.” Enrique said. I clicked the button again and we posed.

Enrique and I returned home after the Oscars and the after party. Upon returning home, we kissed for a few minutes. We decided to take a few pictures and eventually print them out. We held our awards in our hands. A bright smile plastered on our faces.

“3… 2… 1!” Another flash.

“Perfect.” Enrique said.

“You’re perfect.” I said into his ear. We shared a kiss.

We walked towards a shelf that we had emptied earlier, in case we won. We did, and now this place would no longer be empty. Two Oscars are to be placed on the shelf.

“There we go. Just perfect.” I said. I side-hugged En as we gawked at the shelf. The two awards glistened in gold. One had my name, the other had En’s.

“We should celebrate tonight.” En said and began to kiss my neck.

“I think I have an idea in mind.” I said. I picked up En and he wrapped his legs around my waist. He kissed me first and ran his hand through my hair. I blindly led us through our home and reached the bedroom.

That night, we made love like never before. I woke up to a hard pain in my ass. We swapped this time. I now felt the pain and pleasure that En felt himself. But the pain was worth it.

The phone rang that afternoon. I picked it up while En cooked for us.

“Hello?” I asked.

“Victor here!” I rolled my eyes at his happy mood.

“Greetings, Victor. What’s the purpose of this call?” I asked. En fed me a spoon of soup to taste. I nodded in approval and kissed his forehead.

“I want you and Enrique to come in next week.”

“What for?” En leaned into the phone to listen.

“I talked to some other directors. They want you guys to come in and explain what roles they want to offer. It’s a huge deal! Can I confirm your reservation?” Victor said.

En grabbed my hand and squeezed it. I kissed him.

“Of course. En and I will be there!” I said.

“Perfect. Well, don’t let me interrupt you and Enrique’s ‘celebration’.” He said.

“What?”

“You know what I mean. Goodbye, Marshall.” He hung up. En had a blush on his face.

“Do you think he knows?” I asked.

“Think about it, Marsh. He knows we live with each other. We’ve been living with each other for over a year. We go to every party together and sit next to each other. Victor is a smart guy, I bet he knows.” En said. I thought about it also. I guess we do make our love visible to everyone.

But it takes a genius to understand how much we love each other. Only two people know how much we love each other. And those two are me and En.

“Thank you, En.”

“Thank you, Marsh.”

“If it wasn’t for you, I would’ve never believed in love again. I was so hurt over a year ago. I thought I was incapable of love and would be lonely forever. It wasn’t until I met you when my eyes opened. You are my true love. If I had never met you, I would be here but empty. So thank you, Enrique Viramontes. You are my true love.” I finished and hugged En.

“Marshall, I lived my entire life only being loved by my mother and father. And when they died, I was alone. I had no one. I felt like such a failure for so long. Moving here and auditioning and getting to know you are the best choices I made. I can now proudly say that I am glad to be alive. I am glad to be in love, because I love you, Marshall Cromwell. I love you.” He said.

Tears fell from both our eyes. I wiped his away with my thumb.  He wiped mine.

“If I could, I would marry you. But they’ll never let us. Our careers would end. No one would approve of us. But even a ring won’t prove how much I love you.” I said. I cried a bit at the idea that I can never marry the person I truly love.

“Marry me in secret. We’ll get matching bracelets or tattoos. The world doesn’t have to know how much we love each other. The only people who matter are you and me.” He said.

“Wait here.” I said. I ran to my room and shuffled through the drawers. I pulled out a ring. It belonged to my mom. When I left Cassie, I took the ring back. I ran back to the living room and was in front of Enrique.

I was in front of him and got down on one knee.

“Enrique Viramontes. You make me the happiest man on earth. I thank God for bringing you to me. Words can never express how much I love you. But I hope I can show you for the rest of our lives. So, Enrique, will you marry me?” I held the ring out.

Enrique was shocked. He stood still, not moving. For a moment, I thought he would reject my proposal.

“YES! YES I WILL!” He jumped. I kissed him and put the ring on him.

“We’ll have a private ceremony. It’ll be just you, me, and our Oscars.” He said.

“Perfect. We’ll be a perfect couple.” I said.

We kissed and sealed our futures. No matter how uncertain everything will be, one thing remains certain.

Our love.

“I love you, Marshall.”

“I love you, Enrique.”

bye! i love you all!

EPILOGUE

They knew that they could never officially marry, nor could they tell the world about their love. It was a hard secret to keep in. One of the biggest factors in their lives had to be hidden behind closed doors.

But that still never stopped Enrique and Marshall from being together. Sure, it may be sour that besides them, only Victor Fleming and Marshall’s mother knew about them. Thankfully, being in love is a journey not taken alone.

“Honey, I’m home!” Marshall yelled upon entering his home. A few years after winning their first Oscars, the two moved out. However, it would be suspicious for the two to continue living in the same home. So they came up with an idea: the two would live next door to each other.

Everyday, no matter the time, they would go to one another’s house and be together. They accumulated wealth and awards. Marshall continues to be in hero-like roles. Enrique has recently begun singing in musicals.

Who knew he could act, dance, and sing?!

“I’m in the kitchen!” Enrique yelled. No matter what, everytime he hears Marshall’s voice, he can’t help but want to tear up. He still can’t believe that someone loves him. That someone gave their heart out to him and trusts them with it.

Enrique had been cooking. Even after all these years, Marshall still can’t cook. Instead, Enrique takes that responsibility. He sometimes feels like he’s Marshall’s wife.

“You won’t believe today. Some model tried to kiss me.” Marshall said. He kissed Enrique’s neck.

“I bet you told her off?” Enrique asked. This was a constant habit. The media assumed that both men were eligible bachelors and thus would get hit on by many women. Everytime, the men would turn them down, for they are both in love with each other.

“I did. She was adamant on kissing me but gave up.” Marshall untied his tie and set the table for dinner. Marshall noticed a sly smirk on Enrique’s face. He was hiding something.

“What’s with the smile?” Marshall asked.

“Okay, you know that director, Robert Wise?” Enrique asked. Marshall tried to remember who he was. Then he remembered.

“Oh yeah, we met him at that one party in New York.”

“He wants me to play a role in his upcoming musical!” Enrique cheered.

“Oh God! That’s amazing, sweetie! What musical?”

“I think it’s sort of like Romeo and Juliet. But he wants me in New York next week.” Enrique said. A pain in Marshall’s stomach fell. He knew he wouldn’t be able to go to New York with him. The only times they traveled together are when they are both invited. Otherwise, they can’t go together.

It would be weird if they constantly were together everywhere they went. Everyone thought they were just really great friends.

“That means you’ll be leaving me.” Marshall sadly spoke.

“Hey.” Enrique lifted Marshall’s chin. “I know I’ll be gone. I won’t lie, it might be over a year. And I’ll miss you so much, mi amor . But you can come visit me. I’ll talk to some people if they have open roles available in New York. How does that sound?” Enrique asked. A feeling of happiness overcame Marshall.

“That sounds great. I don’t think I can go a day without seeing you, dear.” They shared a passionate kiss.

“Neither can I. You’re my drug. I love you so much.” Enrique turned down the stove.

“We’ve got an hour until dinner is ready.” Enrique gave a smile to Marshall. Marshall knew full well what it meant.

“Enough for me to fuck your brains out.” Marshall felt himself get turned on.

“Come on, big boy. You gotta catch me first!” Enrique began to run and go up the stairs. Marshall followed close behind. They collapsed onto the bed together.

“I love you, Marshall.”

“I love you, Enrique.”

And thus, the two laid in bed, kissing, loving, caring, and dreaming. For eternity.

awww. a happy ending. it’s perfect…

bye! i love you all!

Author’s Farewell

it’s over!

this has been a long journey!

but now we can say goodbye to enrique and marshall.

i like to imagine that even after the story ended, they continue to be together with their secret kept a secret forever.

just to clear something up, enrique and marshall are fictional characters and are not inspired by anyone. some characters are fake. some others are actual people. also, enrique winning an oscar does not reflect the actual academy winners. the first latino to win an oscar was

jose ferrer in 1950 (this story takes place in the late 1940’s)!

fun fact: i originally wanted en and marsh to not end up together to make it realistic. but the concept of hollywood and achieving whatever you want led me to make them end up together.

well…

thank you, again, for reading ‘The Golden Age’!!!

bye! i love you all!
