When the Sun meets the Waves
Wave
Prologue
When the rays of sun melted into the waves, painting the transparent ocean of the gold sun, it shines the brightest when reflected by the waves.
I was sitting alone at the shore, my knees are close to my body while my chin is on top of them. I’m playing the shell bracelet we both created while he was still here.
“I miss you, Sinag ko…” I whispered to myself, tears forming at the corner of my eyes.
Sinag bumalik kana, I’m all alone now. Sometimes I will always think of him; I can still feel him. I miss him so much.
I closed my eyes and feel the cold breeze hitting my exposed skin. I remember how things started, how we both met each other. I want to go back and make more memories with him.
I opened my eyes for the last time and stood up; pagabi na, the sun is being swallowed by the sea. Before, I would smile with this because that is the time when the sun meets the sea waves.
Now that my sun is gone, how could waves create beautiful moments once again? I sighed at umalis sa puwesto ko and naglakad palayo.
I was looking at the sand beneath my feet; every step I took, I thought it was swallowing me. My shoulders are heavy; I can’t help but be sad once again.
I silently wiped my tears away.
But then I looked up. I froze in place, staring at the person in front of me. My world stopped for a moment. Hindi ako dapat magkamali.
It’s
him.
I took a step back instinctively; my breath is uneven, and at any moment I would burst into tears.
He walked towards me, hanggang sa naramdaman ko na ang pagkayakap niya sa akin.
“Why did the sparkles in your eyes vanish, Alon ko?”
I can feel his fingers tracing my arms. My head rested on his left arm while he caressed my hair.
I smiled.
I could still vividly remember what happened to us last night. Umayos ako ng higa at hinarap siya. I could feel his hot body colliding with mine.
He looked at me, yet his gaze seemed different. I cupped his face. His monolid eyes were directly looking at me.
“Sinag, what’s wrong? Aren’t you satisfied?” I asked worriedly. Hindi ito nagsalita.
His expression slowly changed, disappointment flashing across his face, his jaw clenched, sadness and frustration mixing in the silence between us.
He brought his face close to mine. I was confused and nervous. I didn’t know what was happening.
“You think I didn’t know?”
Anger was evident on his face.
“What do you mean?” I confusedly asked, my eyebrows knitted together.
He scoffed. He clicked his tongue and looked at me with disappointed eyes.
“You slept with him, didn’t you?” I was confused as hell. Nakatingin lang ako sa kanya, trying to process everything he said.
“What are you talking about? Slept with whom?” I asked confusedly.
He shook his head and pushed me aside.
I grabbed his wrist. He violently removed my hand from his wrist. I started to tear up. I couldn’t understand a thing.
“Anong iniiyak mo? Nagpapavictim ka ba?” he sarcastically retorted at umalis sa kwarto. Hinabol ko siya at binalot ko sa katawan ko yung kumot.
“Sinag, ano bang pinagsasasabi mo? Di kita naiintindihan,” I calmly said, trying to process everything.
“You slept with Silas, didn’t you?” sabi nito sa akin as he pointed his finger at me. His neck was red now as he ran his hand through his hair.
His brow furrowed deeply. “Saan mo ‘yan nakuha, Sinag? You are accusing me of something I didn’t do,” I angrily shot back at him.
He took out his phone from his pocket and showed it to me. “Eh ano ‘to?”
He asked while showing me a picture with Silas.
I wasn’t wearing upper clothes in the picture, and I also had red marks on my back and left neck. I was hugging Silas there.
I backed away a little, slowly shaking my head. I couldn’t remember a thing about what happened between Silas and me.
I looked at Sinag as tears formed in my eyes while I tightly clutched the blanket wrapped around me.
“Believe me, walang nangyari sa amin. Wala talaga, Sinag. Please, di ko magagawa ‘yan sa’yo,” I explained, trying to prove myself.
I wouldn’t betray him.
“There’s the evidence tapos ayaw mo pa umamin. Tangina, Wave,” he said, trying not to shout. He slammed his hand on the table.
“Sabi mo sa akin nung nakaraan may pupuntahan ka lang, tapos malalaman ko na ganyan ginawa mo. Tangina, pinagmukha mo akong tanga.”
Di niya na mapigilan kaya sumigaw na ito sa akin. I could see how angry he really was at sobrang dismayado siya sa akin.
Wala talaga akong maalala.
I tried to approach him, but he stepped back.
“Sinag…”
“Don’t call me that anymore, Wave,” he said.
I held both of his hands. “Sinag, sorry. Please, I’m really sorry,” I pleaded between my sobs.
Sinubukan kong yakapin siya while still apologizing, pero he kept resisting at tinulak niya ako. I fell down because of what he did. I kept crying nonstop.
I didn’t know what to say because I didn’t know how to start.
“Alam mo naman, ‘di ba, ang pinakaayaw ko sa lahat? Ayaw ko ng niloloko ako, pero ginawa mo pa rin,” he let out a sharp laugh, shaking his head.
I heard him sniffle quietly, struggling to speak. “Mahal kita eh. I changed for you so I could be with you, tapos ito lang ibabalik mo sa akin.” He lowered his head, his fists curled up at his sides.
He took a deep breath bago nito pinakawalan at tumingin ito sa akin. We looked at each other.
“We should break up.”
The silence between us felt heavier.
“Sinag… ayaw ko. Please, wag naman ganito oh,” I pleaded at hinawakan siya sa binti. My tears kept falling. I was so afraid to let go because I knew he would walk away.
“I can’t lose you,” my voice cracked.
“It’s better if we go our separate ways, Wave…” sabi nito.
Hindi ito makatingin sa akin.
Then all I knew was that he walked away from me, and I completely lost him.
I cried out in pain. I hugged myself.
What did I do?
Solra
“Hoy, Sol, tama na ‘yan. Nakaka-ilang inom ka na oh,” Roan said, grabbing the glass of whiskey from my hand.
He looked defeated.
“You’ve had too much already,” he said and reached for the glass once again. I tried to reach it, but he stopped me with a firm grip on the glass.
“Ilang araw ka nang ganito. It’s been weeks. Hindi mo ba aayusin sarili mo?” he asked. I placed my hand on my hair, gripping it slightly.
“What do you want me to do? Be happy, huh? Sobrang sakit tol nang ginawa niya sa akin. Do you think I’d be happy with that?” I asked as I lowered my head. I’m still clearly disappointed and hurt.
“You don’t understand, Roan, so shut the fuck up,” I angrily said at tumayo sa inuupuan ko.
I heard him shout my name multiple times.
Tangina, sobrang sakit.
I was betrayed by someone I truly loved.
